I love Pinelopi's! We've been several times, in groups or alone. It's still my favourite Greek restaurant in Ottawa! I was reflecting during our visit how you might overlook this place from the outside, as it's in a plaza, across from a popular bar (The Royal Oak). However, it's cozy inside, and the food is great! We were greeted at the front door by the man standing behind the bar (he ended up being a waiter too), and seated promptly. It wasn't overly busy on a Wednesday at 7:00pm. My husband and I had dinner at Pinelopi's with our friends, another couple, and we all really enjoyed our meals. I got the Chicken Souvlaki ($24.95). My husband got the Saffron Seafood Ravioli ($31.95). Our friends got the Moussaka ($25.75) and Chicken Souvlaki. The Chicken Souvlaki plate was great. The chicken was moist, tender and flavourful. I appreciated that the skewer was already removed so I didn't have to fumble with it. The rice was soft and fluffy. The potatoes were well seasoned and tasty. They weren't mealy at all. The vegetables were nicely cooked. They consisted of bell peppers, broccoli, carrots and zucchini. The tzatziki was really thick. It was a bit stronger and funkier smelling than I'm used to though, lol. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal (minus the tzatziki) and was stuffed silly afterwards. My husband also really enjoyed his meal, but was still hungry afterwards since his dish consisted of only 5 ravioli. Each ravioli was about 2 bites, so he was done in 10 bites, lol. He said it was very tasty and he enjoyed the rich creamy sauce. In retrospect, I probably should have given my husband some of my meal, hehe. Our friends also enjoyed their meals. We sat on the patio and it was great, as it was covered and provided shade on a hot day. The tables are not too close to each other, which I appreciated. With the exception of when a car drove by with music blaring, I almost forgot that I was eating under a tent in the parking lot in front of the restaurant ;) Service was attentive without being intrusive. They do have a 2 hour dining limit, which we were advised of when we made our reservations. We left before our limit on our own, so they didn't have to enforce it with us, lol. This time around we tried one beef platter. They ask how you like it. I took medium rare and the meat was really good. It comes with a lot of rice potatoes and veggies. My partner got extra pita, they don't come with the plate. I wish salad came with it. The portions are good and the food is tasty. read more

How have I not written a review for this yet?? I've been to Pinelopi's a number of times pre-pandemic for a fancier dinner and have ordered from them once or twice during the pandemic. I've been for date nights and family dinners, both dressed up a bit more and totally dressed down. There's no dress code and they really don't treat you any differently. Other than a bit of a longer wait for food and bills on really busy nights pre-pandemic (you always needed a reservation to get a guaranteed table), I've always had the best service. One of my favourites pre-pandemic was the saganaki, which I'm sure still tastes good for take-out or delivery, but part of the experience is the lighting the brandy on fire, especially with the dim mood lighting of the restaurant. I haven't been here since indoor dining opened again, but I'll look forward to having the saganaki again the next time I go, maybe with the Santorini chicken as my main and B-52. Yum! My husband and I felt like a nice dinner for delivery and we felt like Greek food that wasn't the fast food we normally get. Pinelopi's is one of my favourite spots for Greek food in the city and moussaka is my favourite Greek dish, so that's what I ordered. I don't see it on too many menus and figured it had to be good here. It's on the pricier side at $22.75, but it's what I'd expect for this kind of dish at this kind of place. Their version uses beef instead of lamb, both potatoes and eggplant and has crumbled feta on top. It was good, though I wished there was less tomato sauce, as it overpowered the other ingredients at times. Overall, it had good flavour and the portion, including the feta on top, was very generous. I do wish, though, that it came with a side, like small salad or something. We also split a Greek yogurt cheesecake. I saw that they had apple pie and caramel topping on Instagram but didn't see it on the app as an option, so I just wrote it in the notes and hoped they would oblige. SO glad they did! Really should've ordered two since it's a single portion, and it's so good that I could've easily eaten two portions on my own. The mini cheesecake had Skor bites on top, and the apple pie topping and caramel sauce came in separate containers so you could control how much you put on. (But you'll want eat all of it anyway!) The price was higher than I'd normally pay for the actual cheesecake portion, but there was just as much topping as there was cheesecake and it really made it worth it. It was delicious! Looking forward to trying the leg of lamb and maybe a pasta next time. I'd also love to try their sister company, Pinelopies, that serves different savoury phyllo pastry pies. read more

Have had takeout various times over the years. More recently tried some items from their sister company - Pinelopies. The recent posts on Instagram prompted a date night dinner this evening. Saffron seafood ravioli was amazing, and is now on the regular menu. I can only hope the same thing will happen to the veal chops special which I had. In a word, or two - HOLY CRAP! Staff made us feel welcome, and our orders were brought out quickly. Atmosphere was perfect, with tables spaced out to comply with the life that we've come to accept since the pandemic began. One of the downsides of living in the suburbs in the sea of big box retail eateries that litter the landscape. What's even sadder is that the locals seem to think that these are the only options when it comes to eating out. Pinelopi's is a breath of fresh air, and we intend to inhale it's sweetness more often in the very near future. read more

The food was delicious. I ordered the Arancini with the chef Daniel's soup. The Arcanci was rich and wonderful. The soup was very flavourful. My friend ordered the chicken souvlaki. She also enjoyed her choice of entree. These dishes were large portions made with high quality, fresh ingredients. My favourite was the Amuse Bouche. The olives were marinated to perfection. This is a cute little restaurant in Barrhaven. The interior decor was classy and nice. I felt a little underdressed coming to this restaurant in a hoodie and jeans haha. It is definitely a great place for date night. The service was great and the servers were friendly. The menu has a variety of options from pastas to seafood, beef and lamb. My husband and I got the seafood pasta and a lamb dish and they were cooked so well. The calamari was also pretty good and cooked well. You get complimentary bread at the beginning of your service which is always a bonus. The bread was baked light and fluffy. Their food is priced well. Agree with the other two reviewers Chloe and Hannah. This is one of the best three restaurants in Barrhaven and the surrounding area. The atmosphere is more cozy and relaxing. It is clean and tastefully decorated. The tables and chairs are comfortable. Even the cutlery is good quality and hefty. These are just the first few things you will notice. The food is of the highest quality, prepared with the flavor and care of a home-cooked meal, and nicely presented. All the servings are generous and come loaded with a variety of sides. I believe the owners themselves work in the kitchen and their dedication shows. To me the menu selections are perfect for a Greek restaurant. I usually have one of the chicken or pork specialties, but the old faithful souvlaki platters are no less special and reasonably priced! Appetizers are also very good (had the flaming cheese last time) but be warned it all gets very filling, as dinner is always served with a delicious basket of warm bread. read more

Best Greek place in the city. Menu items are your favorite. Ilove the crispy Calamari followed by flaming Saganaki then superb 8 bone rack of lamb. My wife - chicken santorini. This place is yumm. I've only been in the restaurant once, I usually just get take out (I've gotten that 3-4 times). I wouldn't recommend eating there but if you're looking for Greek to pick up in your way home, this is your place. Large portions, reasonably priced and pretty good food. I hate how they replaced the Greek salad with seasonal veggies when you get a souvlakia platter but I'm sure you can exchange the items. Meat is kinda dry but rice and potatoes are never bad!! read more

The place is amazing. I have never had a bad experience there and have been going since it opened. The Gyros beat those found in NDG montreal. That to me is the highest compliment I can give. Oh, we stumbled on one appetizer fairly recently and that is the scallops dish. Again, amazing. We now usually have both Calamari (best outside of Buddy V in Las Vegas ) and the scallops. Was their for diner Friday night. First visit. Our appetizer was the E-Z chips (lightly breaded, fried zucchini & Eggplant). Sauce was very liquidity but Veggies where tasty. I ordered the Chicken Santorini & my husband ordered the Moussaka. Both were excellent but a little too much oregano on the moussaka. I ordered fettuccine noodles (no sauce) instead of the rice but I was shocked when I was charged an extra $5. We then shared Tiramisu for dessert. It was one of the worst I've ever had. I didn't even finish it. When the waitress asked how it was, I told her that the lady fingers where SUPER dry and that dessert was tasteless. She then advised me that they don't use expresso coffee and don't soak their lady fingers very long. She then told me that "I would know for next time". If you can't/won't make a dish as intended, why serve it or why charge $10 for it. One final note, the buns they serve as a started should have been tossed out days before. I would love to give 4 stars, but a few things bugged our table at today's lunch visit: - Waiter: he was very 'to the point' and not friendly. He said all the right things, but it was clear in his attitude that he didn't care. We overheard the table beside us say: 'the food is great but what's wrong with the waiter?' - Extra Charges: we don't mind paying extra for some more taziki sauce, but $2.25 for a small spoonful of it is rediculous. The waiter should let you know there will be an extra cost as well. A lunch is $11, how is it fair to charge 20% of that for sauce? I'd rather buy another lunch dish and get my taziki that way. You'll gain more customers without charging for a bit of extra sauce. The food is great and it's too bad the service and hidden charges ruin the experience. read more

Absolutely fantastic greek food. You can tell that all the ingredients are fresh (not frozen) which makes a huge difference in flavour and quality. We got take-out (drove all the way from Stittsville to get it), but noticed the decor is very modern and inviting. Highly recommended. read more

Was in Ottawa a few weeks ago with two friends and Yelp brought us to Pinelopi's. All three meals were top notch. I would have put money on it that Yiayia was in the kitchen!!! Lamb Chops, Pork Souvlaki and Moussaka were done perfectly and were quite filling. Better than most places on the Danforth! Service was great too! Bravo! I've been to Pinelope's a couple times and would go back again. The food was quite good and the restaurant is charming.

We were loyal and regular customers since the restaurant opened five years ago. In fact, we followed Penny from the other restaurant to here. We usually liked the food and the service. It was our go to place if we couldn't make up our minds as to where to go for supper. Not any more. We were planning to meet our friends and their two sons for supper and we thought that this would be a good place. We had a 5:30 reservation and the meal went well until my friend asked for a second cup of coffee but never got it. It was near 7:30 and it seems that the next customers were already waiting for the table. I am guessing that is why my friend never received his second cup of coffee. In fact, at about 7:25 the waiter (the owner's son) came to us and said that it was 7:30 and the next guests were there and that we would have to leave. How rude! We were about to leave anyway but being told to leave was insulting and rude. The restaurant management should have timed things better. We were regular customers and we were bringing in new patrons for them and they treated us in this awful matter. When my wife complained about this to the owner, the complaints were shrugged off. Well, we can just as easily shrug off the restaurant and never go back, never. Anyway, the food wasn't really that good for me to put up with the abdominal service. read more

I did graduate school in Greece and know Greek cuisine. The only authentic touch to this restaurant was that supposedly hot dishes came to the table barely tepid. Lamb overcooked, sauce far too salty, green beans overcooked, no trace of having been cooked in tomato sauce. Large "Classic" salad (khoriatiki) for four people contained exactly four olives and four minute pieces of feta. The worst nightmare of suburbanization of another country's cuisine. read more

We went to this restaurant, which is "way out" of the central part of Ottawa because of a Groupon deal, and we were very glad to have made the trek. I judge a Greek restaurant on their lamb and on their taramasalata, and Pinelopi's does a marvelous job of both. Unlike some of its competitors, the taramasalata was not overloaded with mayonnaise, and you could really taste the fish roe. Delicious! I ordered my lamb souvlaki medium-rare, but knowing that metal skewers inside meat chunks carry the heat to the centre of each chunk, I wasn't very optimistic.....but, happily, the platter arrived with perfect chunks of seasoned lamb, each chunk beautifully charred on the exterior and , yes, perfectly medium-rare on the inside. We found the service excellent; the first time in a Greek restaurant when a server actually told us to request more grilled pita if we needed more to finish up our dips. The only fault I could find in this very pleasant restaurant is that it isn't closer to my home. read more
