I cannot stress enough: do not send your children to this school. The principal was condescending,…read moreaggressive, and completely disrespectful. She invaded my personal space, treated me with blatant bias, and left me frustrated, intimidated, and questioning how parents are even tolerated. Respect and professionalism are nonexistent here. The environment for students is alarming and unsafe. I have serious reason to believe at least one staff member may be using illegal drugs, and it's obvious that substance use--alcohol or drugs--is impacting the competence of some staff. Children are being cared for by people who appear impaired, unprofessional, and biased. Combined with administration that is incompetent, dismissive, and unsafe, this school is a disaster waiting to happen. If you value your children's safety, well-being, or even basic decency, look elsewhere. This school fails on every level--parents and children alike will be disrespected, endangered, and treated unfairly. Accountability, professionalism, and safety are completely absent.

They seem to put so much more focus on to the kids. I love that they are really focusing on the arts though. That's really wonderful. I do wish they'd end these strict testing guidelines though and give the teachers a bit more freedom, but hey, that's all I've got to complain about.

Breaks are taken from elementary school on to have students experience the world around them. Each year students take a different trip, starting in elementary school to places like MEsa Verde or Bent's Old Fort. In Middle School there are many programs to choose from that allow you to take a break from constant studying and explore topics that are interesting for you (I remember taking comic book art and acting). In High School the ECS program cannot be beat. A whole month off to study a topic in depth while traveling? I went to Italy and Bulgaria with these programs and felt that they enhanced my life and encouraged me to explore beyond what most students have when finishing high school. It also gives students the opportunity to play sports when they may not of had one in other schools. It may have changed since I was there, but anyone who wanted to play a sport could, and tryouts would only determine JV and Varsity levels. Small class sizes and dedicated and talented teachers make this school stand out. I owe a lot of my bright future to the great education I received at this school.

Absolutely no other place quite like it to receive such a well rounded education. Small classes sizes. Stellar faculty, staff, parents, and students. This is a place to call home.

As a Palmer alumni, I can say I wouldn't have wanted to go to any other high school in Colorado Springs. The location is great, the teachers are in general good, and the feel of the place is great. Palmer also has the I.B. program, an international program that offers a 4 year accelerated level of study, which can give significant college credits, since you are taking college-level courses in high school. The program requires rigorous testing at the end of the program, which would make even the hardened college-student sweat, and definitely is a great program to prepare for college. Also, since the IB program is closed to IB candidate students, this means that IB students have the same classes with a small-ish (100) group of people for 4 years. This means many strong friendships can flourish. IB aside, the school itself still excels in academics compared to other schools in Colorado Springs. The sports are eh - ask someone else who cares. The administration however of Palmer was iffy at best, especially given the needless draconian hall-monitors, as well as the bumbling of the principle and vice-principle. Security is unnecessarily tight..so much so that I think the people there actually are considering that a terrorist might decide to go ape-shit on a random high-school in a random town in a random state. Ridiculous. Still, if you have an option, send your kid here...they will thank you later.
