Cayo Costa is a beautiful,unspoiled,rustic South West Florida island in the Gulf of Mexico. The rangers at the park were friendly and helpful. Campsite was clean. Restrooms were clean-make sure you bring a flashlight,because there is no electricity in the restrooms and that been said there are no lights after sunset. Cold water showers-not so bad if you stay there between April and October. The beach was beautiful, very few people. Most of the time it felt like we had the whole island to ourselves:) Great hiking trails,kept clean. Noseeums were pretty bad, at sunset and sunrise.Nothing will keep them away but you can protect yourself if you stay dressed-covered head to toe- or if you keep moving they can't bite you. Overall we had a great time and we will definitely be back on this beautiful island!

Entrance is free for passengers, I'm not sure if they charge anything for the boat launch. Tip: Don't park too close to the launch as the folks with trailers might end up blocking you in while they get their boat ready for the road. Tip: It's pronounced "matt-la-SHAY."

The parking is totally full with boat trailers, skidoos, and people just enjoying the beautiful weather. There is a playground in the middle. The boardwalk is under construction and I can't wait for it to open. There are pelicans, herons snd hawks flying overhead. Once we sent them a text we heard back from them quickly and arranged for a drop off for two days later. The gentleman who dropped off the kayaks and did the pick-up was very friendly. He was early to the drop off spot and super fast in returning to pick up the kayaks once we were done and had texted him. The price for two double kayaks appeared to be the best in town and with no drop off fees. The kayaks were in decent shape. Highly recommended!

Eight acres of pine flatwoods and slash pine trees, surrounded by palmetto prairie, salt marsh and mangroves. There are two trails. The Pine Loop is paved and ADA accessible, about one third of a mile long. The other is Holly Way and is a bit less accessible and around a quarter of a mile long. Please use caution and always bring a friend. I didn't see any wildlife today but there's no reason that something could pop out since you've "brought lunch." It is operated by the County and has plenty of activities to keep you and your kids exercised. It's all in good shape and I had a nice walk around. The center of the park has two lighted baseball fields, complete with bleachers and a concession stand. Three lighted tennis/pickleball courts. Picnic shelter with charcoal grills. Playground. Restrooms. The pavilion on the playground is available to rent. The community pool is also here though currently closed. Accessible only by boat, this is a remote, natural, untouched, pure Florida beach. What it is not,…read moreis a state park, per se, but rather land owned by the state park department (i.e. we, Florida taxpayers), that is "shared" with landowners and homes that existed prior to the state's land acquisition. You will be dropped off by boat, walk about five minutes through a canopy of trees, and emerge on the other side, to a gorgeous beach. There are no facilities whatsoever. Not a bench, building or instructional sign. There is not even a sign stating it is state park land. If you have a Florida state pass, you CANNOT use it, and are charged when you book your cruise. For the shellers out there, NOT a good shelling site, although I know September is not the best time to shell (winter is best). Three stars because the beach IS beautiful. Would've been "0" for it's classification as a "state park"

That brought us to the Bokeelia fishing pier and boat ramp where we briefly parked our car (lots of "no parking" and "private parking only" signs, walked around, checked out the pier, and took some photos. It's really pretty here and there are plenty of opportunities for photos. And fishing, whether from the parking area or you can absolutely go out onto the pier. It's a great spot but if you're looking for a free pier, the one at the southeast corner of Cape Coral at the Yacht Club Park is nice too. [Review 13271 overall, 589 of 2020.]

Although the rebuilding process continues there's not much left here after the devastating hurricanes, the public access fishing pier has been totally destroyed and the sea wall has been mostly destroyed, the sandy shell road is riddled with potholes and standing water and the businesses that were on the point are severely damaged, close and abandoned. There are signs that this place will recover, the sea wall sheet pilings are being installed from barges and land based cranes before the sand can be hauled in to fill the voids. It's apparent that the entire island has taken a beating with the collapsing buildings and uprooted trees scattered about but there's no doubt about the resiliency of the people that call this island home so the restoration will continue. There is still a small parking area that allows you to fish from the concrete sea wall that remains intact and enjoy the beautiful sunsets, hopefully the fishing pier construction will begin soon so the area can return even bigger and better than before. I hope to return here when everything is restored to give the 5 star review it deserves...

They've made some upgrades to the lighting along the walk/bike path and they do a good job of keeping it in good repair. There are a couple places that gets covered for small spans with dirt and debris in that low area when it rains heavily, but it's generally cleared away within a reasonable amount of time. The children's playground received a huge upgrade with the largest play area receiving a sun shade overhead. We enjoy seeing all the puppies, dogs and their people while we walk and some evenings, we're able to enjoy great sunsets.

A few covered pavilions surround the tranquil lake but no fishing permitted. Today is cool out and the park is slammed with people exercising or playing with their children at the kiddie jungle gym. We saw so many dolphins, learned a ton of interesting facts about them, and had a great time throughout the entire cruise. To top it all off, the sunset was absolutely breathtaking!
