This is a premium golf experience in the US…read more I recently turned 69 and my two Sons and some friends took this trip the first week in October. The 12 of us stayed at the resort and played #2, #4 and the Cradle. With #2 you're required to pay an on-site caddie and then you tip afterwards. The caddie will carry two bags and they must be under 25 pounds. They are very focused on pace of play and they tell you at the beginning of your round that if you fall behind you may be asked to skip a hole. This is the quintessential Donald Ross design. It's very straight forward and everything is right in front of you for the most part. No severe dog legs, no water and virtually no out of bounds. The sand and grass are called Waste Areas and you are allowed to ground your club, take practice swings, lift clean and place. The Waste Areas are the borders of the fairway so even if you're off the fairway you still have a shot. There are a few areas where the pine trees are so thick you'll be penalized. It's very tough to get steady footing if you're in the pine straw. I was pleasantly surprised that the Par 3's are all accessible. There are a few holes where there is elevated green which robs you from seeing your ball go in the hole if you're close in to the green when you make and up and down. These greens are lightning fast and there are NO flat areas. All the greens are crowned so when you are playing for the first time, you will be challenged for strategic shot placement on the green. My highlight was a hole out on #14 from about 40 yards away but I never saw it go in so that was very disappointing. The 4 some in front of us was on the 15th tee which is just adjacent to the green so I got an ovation so I had that going for me. Our Caddie was a guy named Chris who said he was 70. He was in great shape and carried two bags with no problems. He told me at the beginning of the round 'you will only need three or four balls. He was right, I didn't lose a single ball. We got in 26,000 steps which is about 13 miles and what an experience it was.

Pinehurst 8 was originally designed by Tom Fazio and features 7,092 yards of golf from the longest tee box for a par 72 with a slope rating of 125. We were not originally aware that the Pinehurst 8 in 2022 undertook refined aesthetic and agronomic renovations. The super dwarf Bermuda grass greens, fully restored bunkers resulted in firmer, faster greens from what I read prior to playing the course. We found the greens challenging, but Pinehurst 8 was a perfect tune up for our next day play at Pinehurst 2. Pinehurst 8 has natural beauty with dramatic contours, elevation changes and greenside challenging bunkers. It will most definitely test your game. There are two holes that I will not forget soon; hole 3 & 8. My approach shot at the third hole was up a giant hill, I could not see the bottom of the pin. Next was challenging number 8th hole par 3 which is only 236 yards; Oh, yea fun. I managed to hit a long tee shot up the left side away from the lengthy, profound bunker on the right side and water hazard that is further right than that. My partner missed the green on the left but recovered. Regardless, no one had a par on this hole, but we were happy to survive it with a bogey. Overall Pinehurst Resort is a golf destination where one will have the most memorable golf experiences. A lover of golf will be presented with challenges, esteem, relaxation, and lots of fun.

Number 2 is the best , I would say #4 or #8 would be second and third .... really tough to rank but this course is amazing! I wish I could play it everyday!

Keep your drive out of the trees and you'll be fine. There is no OB. It does certainly help when you blast a shot into someone's yard and then get a free drop two clubs from the white stakes. Apparently they are changing this rule soon. OB is coming to National. Anyhow, I would recommend it for the price an quality of course.

A lot of interesting holes, some housing along the course but never intruding with big setbacks and plenty of holes routed through woodlands and no houses. Felt like a good country club course. I would recommend the course to any mid to better player. I played it about 6,700 yards or so and that was a challenge. Tips would be tough if you're not 300 off the tee regularly.

It's a 9 hole Par 3 course where you hit off matts, there are no grass tee options. You can acquire a carry bag at the first tee box at no charge. The green fee is $50 bucks. There is piped in music throughout the course and they allow up to six in a group. t takes on a very festive vibe as there is a full bar on site. There are many chairs and tables scattered around so the spectators will be critiquing your game and you may get an occasional cat call if you miss a short putt. You'll also get an ovation if you place a good tee shot or make a long putt. It is such a good time and even more fun when you have a group of people and are playing skins or closest to the pin. Our group was not happy hitting off the matts but this course get's so much traffic it would be impossible to keep the tee boxes in fresh condition. My Son James nearly had two Aces landing within inches of the pin so that was a highlight. The course record is 18 by Jackson Van Paris as of 10/30/23

After 40,000 hours of instruction, he has seen it all and, more importantly, provides the necessary instruction to overcome your shortcomings and improve your overall game. I reviewed other companies in their area and "Sand Hills" was hands down the least expensive with the "most bang for your buck". They had us stay at the Residence Inn , with a ton of restaurants and bars nearby, several were walking distance as well. The hotel was perfect and fitted our needs perfectly. The first course was Legacy and it was gorgeous and a pleasure to play for our first round. We then had Seven Lakes and Anderson Creek to round out or three day get away. Anderson Creek is a good choice for those who plan to head back north on their last day. Its about 1 hr north of Pinehurst area.
