The speed limit is 5, but if you're not a seasonal camper you'll get yelled at no matter if you're obeying that limit. There are 2 pools and playgrounds but don't look like the pictures. I called, left a message and called probably 5 times before I got someone on the phone. Their outgoing recording says to leave a message and they'll call you back but they don't. They state they won't "nickel and dime you to death" but they charge $10 to check in early and $5 for each visiting person to your site. I've camped at way nicer places for half the price.

When I spoke to them on the phone they made sure I knew exactly how to arrive (there is a low bridge in town that can damage RVs). The park was well kept and quiet. Looking at a map, I assumed the "river" next to the park was swimmable, but it actually is a canal that was quite swampy and not anything you would want to swim in. BUT, there is an awesome walking trail along the canal which was great for me and the dogs after a long road trip!

We have been thinking about getting a seasonal lot, however after renting a golf cart & driving around the campground several times, we were saddened to see so many completely neglected campsites. Lawns that were in need of mowing and string trimming and campers that were moldy and long past their prime. We really wanted to like this campground a lot more due to the positive reviews, but sorry to say, this was a HUGE turn off for us. Because of this, we will look at other locations for a seasonal site.

Cosy Corners is a small, family owned campground, quite literally in the couples backyard! Barbara and Dave, the owners were fantastic and absolutely went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience with them. For example, I needed ice from the store and was given a ride in their golf cart. At one point it rained pretty heavily and as soon as it stopped, they came out to offer us all towels. the couple have a vast knowledge of the area and spent a good while talking with us about the things we could do 'off the beaten path'. Did I mention that this campground is at the entrance to Matthiessen State Park and only a mile south of Starved Rock!! Perfect placement. Also, you don't have to worry about the alcohol bans in the state parks if you stay here. The campsite was dog friendly provided the pups stay on leash. The only thing I could say that may put you off would be that there is no shower facility! This didn't bother us, we are experienced campers and had no issue showering under a hose. there are a couple of hoses around so you can access running water. Oh, anther thing! The cleanest camping porta johns I have ever used. They smelled clean and were also lit at night! OK, I could go on all day. I had a fantastic experience and every one of the 10 people in my group on the Saturday night swore they would return. The service provided by Barbara and Dave is second to none! I can't wait to go back!

The new manager Corey has been working to repair the infrastructure that's been neglected in the past and he's only been here 30 days! The pools are filled, as opposed to not being open until almost July last year, roads are being fixed and the store is open with the snack shack being occupied by an outside vendor. We had a meet & greet with him and he sounds dedicated to bringing this park back to what it was in the past. If something changes, I'll do an update to my update to my updates update.

My family and I had the chance to stay at O'Connell's RV Campground. We stayed for 5 days and 4…read morenights and this is our review. When we first arrived to get checked in we arrived and parked right at the gate but there wasn't anyone at the shack and I had to physically park the car at the gate thus blocking this entry way for everyone. Once I parked I had to get out and walk to the administration building to get checked in, I think. There was no sign or anything, letting us know what to do. (This was all due to short staff.) Once I got into the building, check-in was pretty easy. I told them my reservation name and they took out the map and showed me how to get to my camping spot and gave me the gate code. Other than that no other information was provided to me or my family. This will be very important tid bit of information for later in our review. We stayed during the first week of August and I'm not sure if this was a busy time or not for camping but driving to our site we could tell there was a lot of people there for camping and the amount of golf carts are over bearing to say the least. It was like a small city with nothing but golf carts zooming around. We arrived to our camping spot and setup was a breeze. We had electricity and water in our site and just a word of caution. The electricity and water outlets are right next to each other. We felt this was a bit of a dangerous situation as why someone would put the electricity right next to the water spout. Once we got setup, we had sometime to explore the camp grounds. My first impression is this place is huge! It's filled with RVs, motor homes, small homes, and tent camping which holds a lot of people. There's many activities for the kiddos to do like basketball, volleyball, playgrounds, pools, music stage, paddle boats,mini golf, arts and crafts center, kayak, beach, and fishing. However, I'd like to touch upon on our experience. Remember how I said that the campground was packed with people? Well it was near capcity however, most if not all attraction were closed because of being understaffed. You wanted to do paddle boat? Nope it was closed because there wasn't anyone available to rent the boat for us. You wanted to kayak? Nope not happening because someone wasn't available to rent out the kayak for you. Interested in mini golf? Ha! Good luck because no one was available to rent putters and balls for you. You can see how we were disappointed and dissatisfied with our time at O'Connell's RV Campground. Oh yeah and you know the market and pizza restaurant that's conveniently setup for all guests to use in the campground? It's a great place to grab snacks and ice. Forget about that because you wanna know why? That's right, you guessed it! It was closed. It makes no sense to me why those things would be closed when the campground is packed with people. The listed hours of the store/market don't even correlate and it was just closed. This isn't even the worst part of our experience at O'Connell's RV Campground. The camp ground has a strict quiet hours that begins at 10pm but they neglected to advise us of what was going on at the campground during our stay. Every single night starting at 9pm which ran until about 11:30 pm, people would drive around in thier golf carts like it was a parade. Honking, yelling, screaming, blasting loud music, and causing a scene every night when my kids are sleeping/adults sitting around a campfire. There were lines and lines of golf carts. It was extremely frustrating and we didn't understand why security was not shutting this down because of the quite hours. Turns out that it was decorate your golf cart and have a parade weekend. It was have been nice to know about this prior to checking in or even at check in. Nothing was provided to us and there was no advance warning. Now everything made sense to us but we still should have been told about this well in advance. The kids had fun on the playgrounds and the beach and the fishing was decent. The beach was very clean and a good relaxing time. All was not bad but I needed to give everyone full warning of what went down. We had an OK time at O'Connell's RV Campground but my family and I prefer to be more secluded and on our own. It felt like we were camping at a theme park with none of the attractions being open , it's just not for us. Maybe it is for you and your family. The showers and bathrooms were acceptable but could have used a mid-day cleaning but my guess it was due to understaffing issues and a few nights they closed it down at 10 pm and there was no other signs telling us where we could use the bathroom or shower. We did take advantage of the laundry mat and that was a nice luxury to have. Overall, if we decide to come back to O'Connell's RV Campground, we will not stay on the main road cause it's just too busy and I'll make sure to ask what's going on so there are no more surprises and what will be open and what won't be.

Just camped here for the first time. This is a great place to camp, especially if you have kids…read more The lake was great. It's separated into 3 sections by buoys...one shallow end for small kids, a deeper end for bigger kids, and a fishing area. Both swimming areas had lake toys for the kids to climb on, including 2 trampolines with slides and bounce pillow, log roll, a giant iceberg, and some other things. There are smaller lake toys in the kiddie area. The lake had no algae or fish smell like other reviews noted, so they must have solved that problem. There is plenty of lounge chairs and picnic tables around the lake area for parents. The pool was nice too, but the kids liked the lake the best. They also had activities during the day: bingo, a glow stick dance party at night, and a scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt doubled as free campground cleanup for them because they had things like bottle caps, juice box straw wrappers, and cigarette butts on them! Please take the cigarette butts off that list!!! Nobody wants their kids picking those up!!! They had bean bag games, pedal cars, horse shoes, basketball and volleyball courts. The grounds were clean and well maintained. The sites are typical for a place like this...fairly close together but there were huge trees everywhere so we had shade and gave it a little more wooded feel (I hate camping in a big grass field). Cost: We paid $45 a night for water and electric (no sewer) which I think is reasonable because you're paying for all the facilities as well, not just the camping. They do nickle and dime you a bit...you gotta pay to use the pool, carts, and some activities. As long as you're OK just using the lake it's not too bad. Checkout time is non-negotiable. We wanted to stay an extra hour or 2 after checkout time so we had to pay for a whole extra night. Most places don't mind if you stay a little longer if the campground is emptied out. The kids really wanted a little extra time so I ended up paying for the extra night and we stayed until dusk so I could get my money's worth. One last note...the owner has a lot of rules and he enforces them. They are mostly to keep the kids safe and keep the camp family friendly. He was out multiple times during the day making sure the kids in the lake had their life jackets on and had parents watching them. If you're planning on partying loudly until 2 am, don't bother coming. He will kick you out if he has to. This has led to some bad reviews from scorned folks, but it's nice to see a campground enforce their rules for a change. Since I was there to enjoy family time it worked out well for us.

We thought we were just staying for one night but with the great…read moreprices (we used Passport America), super chill atmosphere and GREAT swimming pond we ended up staying three nights. They had Karaoke on Friday night and a band on Saturday in a barn on the property. We didn't go to either but since the barn is fairly enclosed it didn't bother us. This place is pretty quiet durning the day, like I said it's a super relaxed vibe, maybe because when we were there lots of spots were open. Management is great, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There are lots of seasonal's and plenty of nightly camping spots too. The RV spots are basically in a grassy field with some gravel, not perfectly level but not so bad that we had to pull out leveling blocks. Big nice trees everywhere. They have a nice playground and a great pond! It seems that they go to the effort to dump fresh sand on one side of the pond so that it's kind of like a beach and it makes to bottom of the pond sandy instead of muddy. There is also a big fountain in the pond that helps circulate the water and I suspect filter some of it. They don't have wifi but we didn't mind. We have been to so many RV parks that "offer" wifi but then you get there and it's so crapy that you feel a little cheated. I'd much rather know what I'm in for up front. AND we had great cell service (att) so we could do anything we wanted to. Happy camping!!

There is a small creek that runs along a gravel path that is a 1.3 mile loop around a 65ft deep quarry filled lake. Pets are welcome including horses. Swimming is not allowed but the lake is great for fishing and kayaking. Bathroom facilities are available along with plenty of parking. Part of the Kane County Forest Preserve.
