Meat feast calzone, about a foot long

We visited on a Tuesday at 6pm and it wasn't busy. The location is not meant for dine in. There's a couple chairs if you choose to sit and wait for your order. I was asked to wait 10 minutes so I walked around QFC. Service was friendly. I grew up in New York eating meatball calzones so I ordered the meat feast calzone. At $8.99 it's a decent value since it's about a foot long and can be shared for 2 light meals. If I could suggest some improvements, increase the cheeses and put the marinara sauce on the side. In New York, they didn't put it inside so that gooey cheese was the highlight of each bite. And also it was dripping the sauce all over, making it messy to eat. I noticed the hand out menus had cheaper prices so I guess they raised them recently? Overall, a decent calzone. Wish it was a little cheaper and more cheese, but oh well. I'd be curious to try a pizza next time.

Forgettable food. Somewhat pricey. Only have take out or delivery. Our last pizza was super greasy ... probably won't return...

Italian cuisine (Cucina Italiana) is celebrated as the "mother of Western cuisine." Its history is…read morenot merely an evolution of food, but a chronicle of cultural exchange across Mediterranean civilizations. From the humble, communal meals of ancient Rome to the opulent court banquets of the Renaissance, and ultimately to the modern emphasis on raw ingredients and global popularity, Italian cuisine has undergone nearly three thousand years of transformation. The ambiance is absolutely wonderful, and the lighting is super cozy--it's honestly the ultimate date spot. The staff is exceptionally well-trained and always smiling. From greeting and seating us to pouring water and offering menu recommendations, the service was seamlessly executed and truly top-notch. In Italian cuisine, there are two hallmarks of an exceptional Risotto: 1. All'onda: When a spoonful is placed on a plate and gently shaken, the risotto should spread smoothly and fluidly like a wave--neither sticking together like a dense clump of rice nor separating into liquid and grain. 2. Al Dente: The rice grains absorb all the rich flavor of the broth, remaining soft on the outside while retaining a subtle firmness and bite at their core. The salad dressing has a wonderfully balanced flavor, and every dish is served in perfectly portioned, bite-sized pieces. Highly recommended!

It was a short drive from Maple Valley. Easy to find parking nearby. We were early for our reservation, but they warmly welcomed us and seated us right away. Very intimate dining room with seating for around 35 people max. Nice red cloth table cloths. Our waiter was Luis. He has been working for this Restaurant for eight years now he shared and did an outstanding job. He recommended antipasti starter platter that was delicious. Are entrées were perfectly prepared. Fresh vegetables, and seafood in both dishes. Our server constantly monitored our table for water, glass refills, and removed any empty plates we had. He suggested several things to cap off the evening and we ended up getting the tiramisu. Absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommend this if you're looking for great authentic Italian cuisine in the Maple Valley/Issaquah area.

We were immediately dismissed, being told "we're having a private party". And then we pulled a hostess aside and explained we had a reservation and she said she'd get the owner who was no other than the man who couldn't be bothered to greet us. He then proceeded to tell us it would take a while to get us and no real apology. Saying we could sit anywhere outside - a novel offer that could have been suggested from the get-go mayhaps after asking us if we had a reservation? We went somewhere else where crazy enough they said "welcome in" and greeted us. Did the owner forget he was in the hospitality business?!

We went around 5:30pm on a weekday and it was empty with just 2 tables occupied. The ambiance was warm, cozy but since the space is narrow, we felt a bit noisy once more people start coming in around 6pm. The service was fine and the servers did recommend us two vegetarian pastas which we ordered. The food portion was just apt but we felt a lack of taste in both of them. Ravioli Portobello 2/5 - the 5 pieces of ravioli itself were good and flavorful inside but the sauce outside was thick, mushy, processed and uncooked. It seemed like store bought sauce rather than in-house-made. We were told that the sauce is a pink sauce (a mix of white and marinara sauce) but we found it to be mostly marinara sauce. It was not even creamy but a lot runny tomato sauce. Rigatoni zii teresa - 3.5/5 - this was much better in flavor and taste. The mix of pesto, artichoke and mushrooms were really providing a good good premium feel to it. Sauce was a bit on creamier side which we were craving for and we asked for extra parmesan cheese on the side to trickle into the mix. I wouldn't say it was the best rigatoni pesto pasta we had, but I would recommend it over the other. The portion size of each dish for the cost ($27-$28) is definitely debatable but I can come back for pesto pasta.

And we said, "That would be nice!" They charged us $8.00 for what appeared to be a courtesy! We got fries with aïoli sauce.... The tiny cup of white sauce was not enough for dipping all the fries, and the busboy noticed. He asked if we'd like another tiny cup of sauce to finish dipping the rest of the fries in the sauce. I said that was very nice of him to notice and very kind of him to do. Yep, extra charge for that courtesy too! The fact that 3 smallish meatballs were $18.00 and dinner for 2 was $200 was completely our choice and I own that. But sneaking additional charges disguised as courtesies is not cool, nor ethical. My mother owned restaurants my entire life. I was bussing tables at 8 years old and waiting tables at 10 years old in my family restaurants, we would never do things like that.

I think the bread itself could be softer though. Also I think I should have gotten a different sandwich since the crispy chicken enhance the toughness of the sandwich, it needs soft things to balance it out. Bacon truffle pasta -- flavor was spot on, the pasta maybe a little too al dente for me but it wasn't too bad. Crispy risotto croquet -- my kids love this, cheesy and crispy. We came in and got a good table quickly and easily. Were promptly seated and served by a very nice, personable waitress (I wish I could remember her name petite, pretty Asian young lady). She carded us and followed the Covid restrictions. She also took our drink orders and got them out to us quickly. Service the whole time was great. We both ordered food as well. I ordered a dinner entree Chicken Risotto with mushrooms. It was hearty and filled me up...was a little bland to be honest but good once I put some parmesan cheese, salt and pepper on it. My gf got the cheese platter for an appetizer and ravioli for an entree. I tried a bite of both and thought they were yummy. Only recommendation for me personally is put more sauce and/or seasoning on it that really makes it pop in your mouth and add zest to the food. My buddy who is full blood Italian who lives in Issaquah and been to this restaurant a lot says these guys food is always good (and he owns many Italian food trucks and family restaurant so he knows his stuff especially when it comes to Italian food). I think the chef who may have been working when I was there may not have been as skilled in the culinary arts but that does not reflect on the owner or usual standards of good food and service. A chef is like an artist...some are MUUUUCH better than others. You could put 2 artists paintings in a gallery...one is Da Vinci and the other is Joe Smoe who just graduated from Shoreline Community College and makes paintings that look like a 12 year old did it. So overall...I recommend this place! Good food potential, ambience, friendly service, easy parking, good atmosphere and in the cool/old part of Issy off Front street. I met the owner Claude and he is a nice, professional stand-up guy. I like owners like him! Been working hard and a pillar for the community since the early 2000s I believe. I talked with him for awhile. I will come back again sometime and go HARD on another Italian dish. I am not a wine guy (beer guy) but if I was this would also be a great place to go for the wine as they have a nice selection of wines. Also have a full bar so you basically can order any type of drink you like. Go give these guys your business and at least give a shot. Support small, locally owned businesses as they need all the help they can get from the community. They have schedule of events (comedy, live music, dancing, etc) on their website. I certainly will be back again!
