Check out was fast, the cashier was polite, and the drink was nice and cold and gave us a refresh on the last hour or so to Tennessee.

After all, Lexington has been rough on grocery stores. You know, after the short run of Luckys and Fresh Tyme. I guess we prefer to eat out over grocery shopping. This is a small neighborhood grocery. When you see it, from the corner or Citation Blvd and Leestown Road, it looks like an oversized gas station. There is a Shell station attached to it, but it's bigger than it appears at first glance. There's also a Which Wich location inside, which will also have a drive thru, but it's not open now. They have a pretty big selection of beer, in the Beer Cave cooler. Right now, they're running buy one get one free specials on the rotisserie chickens, chicken salad made from rotisserie chicken, and fresh cut fruit. The sale/specials signs are displayed outside, near the entrance. I love that feature, because it means we don't have to grab an ad to see what's on sale. I hope they keep that feature. The chicken salad was fantastic! It will definitely be one of my staple items. The soft serve ice cream machine is also a welcomed feature, especially since the neighborhood McDonalds' soft serve machine is never working. That's besides the pint though, I know. The checkout process is weird. The don't have checkout lanes, it's one big check out counter, with several cashiers. There's no real start of a line, or any indication where to wait for the next available cashier. When I was there, no one was in line, so I stood in the middle, away from the counter and the cashier called for me. I asked her what the line process is, but she didn't have an answer. I guess we will eventually figure it out.

The cashier was counting cigarette packs and I stood there about 3 minutes waiting on him to finish. It was $7.99 for the tiny bottle of Nyquil, but I needed it so I got it anyway. The cashier rang it up at almost $11. I said that was wrong, the price said $7.99. He mumbled something I couldn't understand and just looked at me. I motioned to walk back to the aisle with me, and he did, and I showed him the price. He mumbled some more. I told him to just give me the right price and I'd be good. We went back to the register--I expected him to credit me a couple of bucks. He reached me back my $10 and took the Nyquil and walked away. I stood there a minute, then motioned to the Nyquil. He mumbled something else that was obviously negative, something about "you wanted a refund." I said no, I just wanted a credit of a couple of bucks to get the advertised price. He said whatever it rings up to IS the price. I left and bought a bigger bottle of Nyquil at the Thorton's for less money, and had a much nicer cashier. It's not the buck or two... it's the attitude that drove me away. If your employees aren't empowered to make purchases right, you must not trust them very much, and if you don't trust them, you shouldn't have them working for you.

I did price comparisons on toilet paper, paper towels, kitchen, pantry, staples, seasonings, and meat and Sam's Club beat Costco every time. Around the holidays, I love to get the massive wrapping paper roll and bonus points if you get it the day after Christmas for 50% off. I literally used a roll for 10 years and just finished it. My kids are gonna be sad that we have new wrapping paper next year.

They acted like I was a weirdo simply for wanting a receipt with my purchase. They said nobody wants a receipt anymore, so they couldn't understand why I was asking for them. Not wanting to give receipts with a purchase sounds really, really shady. When I wanted some breakfast, they had a number of employees hanging around but nobody could (or would) stop what they were doing to help for some time, and even after I made my order they acted like asking for a biscuit, some gravy, one sausage patty, and a hash brown was some weird order that they felt the need to comment on it being strange or unusual because I just asked for one biscuit instead of two. It's overall a curious gas station. It's got the usual gas station & convenience store stuff. . .and it's got a huge display of air freshener spray cans with Arabic writing on them, an entire wing of the place devoted to vape stuff, and a curious amount of Pokemon merchandise. It's a curious choice for a convenience store in Frankfort, KY that mostly serves civil servants and folks who are passing through on their way to Bourbon distillery tours, but that's what the place is.
