This place isn't cheap (averaging a £100 a night). The location, on Canterbury's high street, was excellent. My room was quite pleasant. The view (of a corrugated roof) wasn't exactly inspiring. Tea-making facilities are available in the room along with a few top-grade cookies and organic tea. The bed was comfortable but the height of it and the placement of the television (at a little over bed-height) when combined with my double chin made TV viewing a little uncomfortable. Poor planning. Breakfast was very nice. However, not without some problems. On the first day we went down at 10am expecting that half an hour would be plenty of time. Due to the slow service by the time our breakfast had arrived they had started clearing away the buffet items. My full English breakfast wasn't as full as it could have been. I only had one fried egg and there was no black pudding (kaszanka). Not that I am particularly fond of black pudding, but I would like to get some. I suspect I had been given someone else's break. Oh, the toast was burnt too. When I am staying in a classy hotel I expect them not to burn my toast. Breakfast on the second day was more agreeable, I arrived early to ensure I was able to take advantage of the buffet. The hotel's cocktail bar was very nice. The first night I had an egg nog and for a nightcap a banana rumba drink. Not cheap at ten pounds a shot. But, hey, I wasn't paying Checking out was a pain. The girl had trouble understanding that I wanted separate bills for each night's stay. I gave up in the end.

Plus, Patisserie Valeri across the street has some of the best pastries i've ever had. -The rooms were nice, a good size and modern. The beds were comfortable but a wee-bit narrow but nothing extreme. -The staff was O.K nothing to write home about but they are not very knowledgeable of the area but were fine overall -The restaurant looks like a complete waste of money but then again I didn't find the desire to eat there with so many options just down the street. I was out back in the coach house, which was a little surprising, and a little inconvenient as they were in the middle of doing renovations, so we were having to walk through or around large plastic sheets. The location was perfection, and the staff were helpful. I had an injury and was able to get ice each night when I got back to keep the swelling down. Would like to go back when renovations are complete.

The staff were excellent, all extremely pleasant and helpful. The even allowed us to leave our car in their car park whilst we went on a tour of Canterbury Cathedral. The hotel does not serve dinner. Breakfast has been ok: service a bit slow if you order "English Breakfast", quantities of tea and coffee have been the best I have ever seen in a hotel. Service is friendly and courteous, both at breakfast and at the reception. Recommended!

Best thing about this hotel is Robert who was absolutely fabulous! He went above and beyond - from giving us the recommendation to go to the evening choir service at the Cathedral to waking up super early for our departure to help us with our luggage and give us some breakfast to go. No there is no elevator but honestly all the positives make up for it and this is the only place I will stay whilst in Canterbury. Highly recommend!

Natalie was exceptional. Helping with ideas for dinner, to where to shop for a warm coat. (Temps dropped quickly!) Continental breakfast is included - was much more! Fruit, croissants, cereals and even porridge (delicious). Rooms were very clean, with updated bathrooms. Strong water pressure and fluffy towels. Stayed Friday/Saturday nights so the street below was noisy - but quieted down by midnight. I will be returning!

The price is right for a no-frills stay, even if some of the walls look like they have already seen a lot of abuse. Travelodges don't exactly attract the best clientele - ahem - but I'd definitely stay again over some of the horrific B&Bs and overpriced hotels you can find in Kent.

I appreciate fine food with fresh ingredients and extraordinary taste combined into harmonious combinations and if i go to a 'good restaurant': that is what I expect to get: you want that too? Go to the Ebury. Often I go to mediocre restaurants and pay 15-20 pounds for a 2/3 course meal (per head). You can get a 3 course meal at the Ebury for 25 pounds and I'm telling you it's worth it. I'm vegetarian so the starters such as Goats Cheese with butternut squash and walnut salad and Warm Leek Tart for main course always go down well; but my carnivorous companions are often treated to Kentish Duck Breast, Beef Bourguignon, Fillet Steak or Dover Sole: always with imaginative sauces, ingredients and flair. The ambience is gentle and beautifully decorated in a large hotel on the Old Dover Road with a large landscaped garden (even indoor swimming pool!!) and private bar/seating area. No loud music or plastic decor: this place is bona fide it doesn't need to be pretentious it is what it is namely: excellent and the staff service/original decor complement the top quality food. I go to restaurants in France, London and the rest of Canterbury: as far as all round judgement goes this is the best I know of yet, granted it has not got the Parisian buzz of Montmartre or the price tag of a Gordon Ramsey; but the food is top class as is the service and if all you people who don't know about it went there - It would have that buzz too!!! It's sitting there waiting for you. Since the restaurant is attached to a large successful hotel, it does not need to be busy, so it will be sat there waiting for you whether you folks choose to go or not - but it's your loss if you don't; especially if you ever miss the Chef Jean Pierre's amazing cheese cake. Even if you're in London you should make the effort to go: it really is that good, and chill out in their expansive garden with a G&T on a balmy summer evening I just can't sing this places praises enough: a hidden gem; like those amazing hidden away restaurants you find 'family owned' by chance when you are abroad. This place is family owned too: for 2 generations. I'm 30 and often go with friends of mine in the same age bracket, as groups or in pairs. Often when i go there the place is frequented by people of anywhere between 40-80; but as a slighter younger group we had a good time and laughed and talked for several hours: walking in the garden between courses. If you like fast food; don't go to this restaurant. If you like getting drunk and loud music: don't go to this restaurant. If you think getting ripped off is paying 25 pounds for 3 courses of top quality fresh ingredients cooked by a highly trained talented French chef and served by highly trained catering staff (Manager was trained in London along with head waiter) - go and get a Pizza/Ceasar salad for 15 pounds instead in one of the high street chains: I know most people do. But if you appreciate top quality French/British cuisine with good sized portions for a reasonable price, in a restaurant with a huge beautiful garden and amazing staff: what are you waiting for???? Come on people wake up to the Ebury experience.. See you there.

The service very friendly…read more We were moved here from the Pilgrims Hotel near the middle of the old town, since that hotel was undergoing renovations beyond schedule, and these are two of four hotels owned by the same people. At first we were a little bummed to be away from the middle, especially because we had to lug our bags all the way over from Pilgrims to Castle House. But in the end we were happy with the hotel. The somewhat remote location made us walk more and explore things that we otherwise probably wouldn't have found. I believe the pricing is similar to Pilgrims, which is quite reasonable.

As is standard for the area/country, the hallways were eensy weensy (we had to really squeeze going around sharp corners up the staircase with our luggage. BUT the room was really large! The attached bathroom was also quite big with a nice, big shower. Would definitely recommend this place if you need to stay in Canterbury.
