I love this store, and the folks who work there are great. I have been able to pick up some really unique plants, including exotic orchids and carnivorous plants. BUT, I felt compelled to post this review to warn that this location seems to have an issue with pest insects among their orchids. I have bought two phalaenopsis orchids here that had thrips and ended up losing about 5 of my plants due to thrips-related crown rot. I checked in today, and there seems to now be an aphid infestation on some of their orchids. I just can't recommend buying plants here until they get these pests under control. read more

Plants are definitely not cheap and I'm sure we could save money by going to local nurseries, but we come here for the convenience, selection, and helpful employees. It is also a great place to get a Christmas tree. You can get a refund on the tree stand if you bring it back with the receipt once the season is over. We lost our receipt somewhere along the way so now we just keep the stand and come back every year for the tree, the day after thanksgiving. The have a great system where you choose and pay for the tree and then you drive around back for loading onto your car - they do everything for you. Other times of the year we come to pike for annuals and perennials. The store is well organized and easy to find whatever you're looking for. Recommend checking out the sales in advance. read more

I had a wonderful experience with Julie Davis, landscape services designer, at Toco Hill Pike's. I had a small front entry and two-part back patio which were quite challenging to come up with good plant solutions for, and I also wanted something really striking that would stand out in my condo community. I am so pleased with the results that Julie gave me, and she was a dream to work with! Very customer-oriented, patient (when I wasn't sure what I wanted), and creative. I would work with her again in a heartbeat, and if I do further plantings, she will be first on my list to consult with. Kudos, Julie! read more

Terrible customer service on a recent online order. I never received any confirmation that my order was ready for pickup, despite the website confirming the plants were in stock and would be ready within 24 hours. My plants sat there for 4 days before I finally called to see what was going on. I spoke with a very snarky manager (Joy) who insisted she had sent a message, but when pressed -- couldn't explain where or how the 'message' was sent. Imagine my surprise when -- after hanging up the phone -- I magically received 10 (TEN!) emails from Pike's! So she obviously lied about sending confirmation four days earlier. No apology from her either. If I hadn't missed prime planting opportunities -- AND if she had been apologetic about it -- I wouldn't care. But her attitude was certainly not what a manager's should be. read more

They say they guarantee plants for life. This is so far from the truth. Go try to get a refund on a dying or dead plant and see for yourself. They took me through the ringer trying to get a refund on something I had for only a couple of months. Management responds to these reviews saying things that aren't true to make people think its the customer. This establishment replied to my original post with a false statement. We selected Pike Nurseries and their team of sub-contractors to install our new front lawn. They were chosen based on their level of detail in the Scope of Work, expert knowledge in the type of lawn we should install, the post-install follow up including guidelines in caring for the lawn, and warranty. I had interviewed no less than a half dozen lawn companies as well as sod farms, and Pike's approach always came out as the most sensible. This was a big investment for us as the old lawn required extensive work from killing the old grass, grinding out tree roots, leveling the lawn, etc. The install crew were amazing as they were very careful and diligent in their work. It took three days for the entire project but in the end, the wait was worth it! My husband and I were going back and forth on whether to go to Home Depot (save money) or go to Pike's to support a local business and we went with Pike's. We had such a great time there....everyone was helpful and friendly (we were at the Lindbergh location) but the store associate Larry really made our day...he gave us great advice on the bushes and flowers to choose and even helped us pick out the right ones, buy the right fertilizer, and then went indoors with my husband to haul the potting soil over to cash register. the quality of the plants was top-rate but the associates are the reason that we'll return. read more

So far, VERY nonstellar performance which isn't surprising considering past experiences.... Placed an online flower order for the Johns Creek GA location. The website indicates I will be contacted within 24 hours to let me know my order is ready. Almost 48 hours have passed with no call or email so I called. Employee immediately put me on hold and when she came on the line, I was essentially told they hadn't even looked at it yet (her words were "we're still working on it" and when I asked for a time period, she got real short and repeated "we're working on it": aka "we haven't even started it yet"). Pikes has a nice selection of tropical houseplants and other landscaping or gardening needs. This location is located in the Toco Hills shopping center on the same side as Kroger. I've always had a pleasant visit here because they always have plenty in stock. Staff is always friendly and helpful. The prices are reasonable for most of the plants. They also have a good selection of planters and pots. Plants will occasionally be marked down with red stickers, but there's no designated area for marked down plants, so you need keep an eye out if you're looking to score some great deals--I've seen up to 50% off. This location is very spacious, so social distancing is easy, and I feel safe browsing around despite the pandemic. read more

At first, walking in and around the store, none of the associates looked at or greeted me, and I walked about the entire store. I had to approach an associate to ask where a certain plant was. However, my experience scaled dynamically to a perfect five-star rating because of the associate Michael. He is so knowledgeable, professional, and charismatic! He found my plants; he taught me different types and care of plants; he helped me design the schematic of my plant arrangement; and he even has a great eye for color palettes. I contacted Pikes at Toco Hills in the spring of 2024 for a designer to come out for help with curb appeal. They referred me to a horticulture specialist to help for half the price. I spent in the ballpark of $3500. it was deciduous at the time, and when it came out in the spring it was a green drooping Maple tree was planted at a corner of the house. We thought it was red, and I have been to the store to meet with Rebecca several times, and once we selected a replacement. She was to take care of the replacement. With it being of green color, it was bunchy and planted right next to Autumn ferns...not a neat look at all. I had not heard back in several months. So, I called to remind her, and was told she would take care when she had time. I never heard back! Well, I finally gave up, and called the other store, asking for a designer that I was willing to pay to come out for that and other issues. The lady I spoke with said she would get with her manager and someone would be in touch. It never happened. I was also sold the wrong size haystack liners, for hanging planters. it Wouldn't mean so much, if I wasn't 80 years of age, and went to Pikes believing on good customer service. read more

I have found my new store for gift giving for all occasions!! I called pikes nursery from Chicago to order a couple birthday gifts for relatives in Atlanta. Well, my goodness, I couldn't have been treated any better by anyone! Their staff was very friendly and directed me to one of their employees, a gentleman named Miles. Miles was so friendly, understanding, patient, and creative & artistic!! After quite a large amount of time he spent with me on the phone, Miles helped create the dish gardens you see as birthday gifts to my relatives. Ordering gifts online or on the phone, especially from a long distance, can be very difficult and trying! However, not this time! Great selection of plants - but you have to know exactly what you are looking for and how to care for it, because the customer service is absolutely non-existent. I have been in this store at least once a month for the past six months, and you have to beg, plead and demand for any attention from employees. No one has ever once greeted me or asked me what I was looking for, did I need help, etc. Their selection of plants does not match up at all with their selection of planters. Why sell a certain size plant and then carry absolutely no planters of that size? When I asked an employee for help matching plant with planter - and was more then happy to take a plastic potting plant to insert into a decor planter, I was told they didn't even have plastic planters pots to match the planter I wanted! Or - a decor planter to match the planters pots the plant came in. This did not seem to be a problem Pikes was interested in solving. What was I left to do but walk out? However, the absolute final straw was their decision to change their hours the week before Christmas. 9-5 is when people with white-collar, professional jobs are at - ummm, their jobs. Retail stores can't expect those customers to take time off from work to shop with them - especially in an area like Atlanta, where there are so many options. I understand that retail is being put in a tight squeeze during the pandemic, and reduction of operating hours can be an attractive method of maintaining costs, but Pikes is a great example of the way that brick-and-mortar plant stores can sabotage themselves against the growing industry of online/mail order nurseries. So, unless you are retired and don't mind being ignored during your shopping visits, I would recommend browsing on Amazon, The Sill, Bloomscape and other online stores - or getting to know the garden departments of your nearby Home Depot and Lowe's. It hurts to leave behind the great plants they grow, as well as this review. But, unfortunately, Pike's is not prepared to meet the challenges of our present time and, its shortcomings notwithstanding, will be missed following its inevitable closure. read more

In LA where I am from, large plant nurseries are every where. Not sure it's the climate or the culture but I have been having a hard time finding such nurseries elsewhere in the country. Luckily since moving to Atlanta, I found the Pike Nurseries company. There are a few scattered locations throughout the city and this particular location was the closest to my house. As soon as you walk in you know that you have found something a little special. We were greeted with a beautiful display of terrarium plants including an awesome small variegated maidenhair fern which is, IMHO, very difficult to find. Of course, I bought that. They have a lovely display of orchids in bloom. Nothing overly rare (Oncidiums, Phalaenopsis, etc) but they were healthy and large plants... better than what you can find at the grocery store. Walk outside to the larger nursery and that's where you'll find a large collection of plants from small blooming annuals to the larger perennials. They have a pretty decent tree selection as well. Wish they delivered though because I don't have a truck large enough to carry some of those plants! One of the things that they and many nurseries nowadays are lacking are small plastic pots. Where have all those gone? I have to order most of mine now online through specialty stores but when I'm in a pinch, I'd love to drop by a nursery like this and pick out a few for less than $1. Oh well. I also noticed that they have a pretty large selection of seeds from flowers to vegetables. When my raised garden is up and running I'll be back for those! They have a fridge in the front for live ladybugs and mantis eggs but didn't have anything in stock at the moment. Will be nice to have some mantis's in the garden to keep the bugs in check! All in all a great location and probably the largest selection of plants you'll find in a single location. Everyone here was helpful and they have plenty of parking outside! read more

With that being said I can also share that whenever I do buy a plant, birdseed. or a gift for friend, I come here, mostly out of guilt for all the times I did not but anything but just browsed around the store with my double espresso enjoying the beautiful plants. Usually I just go to the local home store to get house plants. But I felt the need to do something different and decided to visit a nursery. The staff is over the top helpful and they have a wide variety of house plants in assorted sizes. They have a huge outdoor section that I will explore on a later visit. But I walked away with nice plants for my home and office and couldn't be happier. I also bought a mini plant that I look forward to nurturing going forward. Totally recommend. read more

Knowledgeable friendly staff. However they only carry the high profit items. Don't come here looking for anything out of the ordinary. Didn't even have basic fertilizer for pond plants. I realize they aren't a water garden specialist but such basic supplies should be in stock. Given their outlandish prices, I suggest shopping elsewhere. I'm done with them. great selection but almost every plant i've gotten from here has died very fast. many of them had bugs in them (mealy bugs in both fiddle leaf figs, spiders and centipedes in my dolphin tale, and spider mites in an ivey). All of my small plants i've gotten from there would mysteriously die in only a week. Stopped by to pick up some more herbs for the garden. It was the middle of the morning, so the store was basically empty. The herb selection is pretty small, even though it was spread out over 2.5 tables it seemed that they only had 3-4 varieties but several, several plants of the same kind. So... if you ever need 10 pots of basil, come here! I decided on a thyme and a mojito mint as well as another mint variety.During my shopping trip, there were about 3-4 employees milling around, but not one came by to ask if I needed any help. Also, if you do come, try not to wear nice shoes as the grounds will have puddles and dirt, cause after all this is a plant nursery. I only say that because I saw a lady in very expensive high heels having a very bad shopping experience. read more

I'm ambivalent about plants. They're usually pretty and all, but such a pain to nurture and maintain. And it can be expensive to do so. I've ending up killing most of the plants for which I've been responsible (sorry, CSH!). But I've managed to keep a small rose plant which I received as a gift moderately alive for three months and doing so has surprisingly brought pleasure into my life. So when I was waiting for an oil change at the new AAA Car Care Plus in the Toco Hills Plaza, I headed over to Pike to purchase additional plants for the three terra cotta pots which have been plantless since the last time I attempted growing things last summer. A older female employee wearing neat glasses and a name tag that read "Jane" (immediately winning my positive bias, as I think that name is fabulous) asked me if I needed help soon after I entered the store, and she was absolutely delightful, extremely helpful, and very encouraging of my new-found desire to grow stuffs. Ten minutes and $16 later, I walked out with six little containers of plants (peonies, lavender, and rosemary). I did shop early on a weekday, so perhaps it is a crazier place with longer lines and more people around whom to navigate at other times, so I'll hold off on giving it that extra star. Pike treated me right; now let's see whether I can manage to not kill my new nutritive ensouled friends. read more

Pick up a coffee or hot chocolate and enjoy the beautiful flowers to Classical music. This Pike used to be nicer, but lately it seems that it needs a cleaning. Staff is not very friendly. I purchased spring flowers from here - they cost much more than the plants I got from Lowe's and Home Depot and didn't last as long. My husband and I worked with Ginny Barr, a designer employed with Pike Nurseries, Huntersville, NC. We are so pleased with the design, the plant selection and plant placement she did for us! In addition, she chose a Landscaper, Picazo Lawn and Landscaping (Rudi and his team) who are nearly completed with an organic, stone patio they're building for us as part of the design. This is a very complex project and I am happy to say we've employed a group of Artists who are executing it. Our backyard is extremely challenging, so it is taking herculean efforts to make it beautiful and functional (still a work in progress on our part). We have been long time Pike's customers for years. My family has been going there for over 40 years and we have been using them for the 3 we've lived in Atlanta. Aside from the expert knowledge and help you get when you get there, we had the pleasure of using Pikes for our backyard re-do. We did this last summer, 2018, and it was beautiful. Unfortunately, the rainy winter caused havoc and the drainage wasn't quite there. After calling Pikes and explaining, they willingly came out, assessed the situation, and then devised a plan where we would fix the problem once and for all. The crew came out and installed french drains, moved a shrub that needed to be relocated, and re-did the sod. The level of professionalism in the crew, the manager, and the district manager was incredible. Jeff Hunter is really wonderful, Matt Gross is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to get a hold of, and the crew was efficient and very good. Pikes went above and beyond to come out, survey our yard, and remedy what didn't work over the last year. It's solidified us as 100% Pike's customers and I look forward to working with them on our upcoming front yard project that will see a complete overhaul of what we have! Thank you!! read more

Employee: I don't know, I'd have to go check. Me: ... Employee: ... Me (sheepishly): Would you mind checking? I could call back if that's better. Employee: ... Me: ... Employee (in very clipped tones, not quite suppressing an irritated sigh): It's really busy right now. I'll have to call you back. AND I DON'T KNOW WHEN THAT WILL BE. Me: Okay, that would be great.
