Nice large neighborhood park: -two restroom facilities (though one was closed for repairs) -bring hand sanitizer, though, as the handwashing station was not working properly -playground -full disc golf course -basketball court -2 baseball diamonds -soccer field -swimming pool (open seasonally, I'm not sure how much it costs to swim there) -walking trails -plenty of picnic tables with areas suitable for large groups -one covered picnic shelter -plenty of open grassy areas for lounging or play -some benches along the trails to rest -small parking area, but there's plenty of street parking in the surrounding neighborhood The park is mostly forested with huge pine trees, so this would be an excellent place to walk when it's hot out since there's plenty of shade. Some trails are paved and others are dirt or small gravel, and all were an even surface and well maintained, so it would be doable with a stroller. There were some steep inclines, but they are a short distance and weren't difficult. The trails weave & intersect all throughout the park so you can choose easier paths without inclines if you have limited mobility. The park was very clean when we visited, too. read more

It's a great park with big tall trees set in a fairly quiet and natural setting. It gives me a sense of being in neat nature. There are disk golf spots everywhere, saw a few people playing. It's a lot of space to stroll, and has a kid playground with some fun equipment as well. And of course benches and picnic area. There is also a bridge that hovers over the train track, it's kinda cool to me to have that perspective of a view. There was a bit of industrial smell near there though. And beyond the bridge is a dog park area. Overall I like this park, very serene and tucked away. Ample parking, some closer some further. I will go back for sure. read more

(From September 2024) One of the larger neighborhood parks in PDX, I had the pleasure of heading here as my sister took me here for some hiking and a round of frisbee golf (aka FROLF). The FROLF course has 18 open holes with advanced difficulty including some hills and crossing a bridge. I'm impressed with how advanced in this sport are many of the participants. Saw several people with carts of discs/frisbees flicking them into the holes like it was nothing. Someday I'll be at that level, someday. There's also plenty of trails that lead you into the forests and some plains where there's a small and large dog park nearby to allow for dogs to roam freely. Don't be fooled, this is a very large park that covers significant acres. There's also a couple playgrounds and some baseball fields here too along with some picnic areas. The park is well maintained and all the citizens take pride in keeping it that way which I appreciate as an out-of-towner. My sister is lucky to have this place near her. I'll definitely be back for more exploring when I'm in PDX! read more

A very nice neighborhood park with well maintained trails. It also has a disc golf course and basketball hoops. There are some amazing trees in here that are HUGE. I loved that! There is also a fenced in dog park on the one side that seemed to draw quite a few people in. Watch out for the dog poop. It seems like this spot has a lot of people who don't pick it up. What a stunningly beautiful park! Visited here with my kid, her beau and their newly adopted dog. Since they live a few blocks away, they visit here nearly daily. And I totally can see why! This park has everything you want a neighborhood park to have - and more. It's large, and forested in areas with woodsy trails to walk along. The air feels and smells fresh, like you're in a forest far, far away from the city. There's disc golf here. There's a baseball diamond. There's playground equipment for the kiddies and a water-play area, too. There are gazebos and picnic areas, some large and available to rent out for private events. There's an impressive (and scary looking!) skateboard park on one side. There are fountains and trails everywhere. The show "Grim" was filmed here, and there is a plaque on a grassy knoll that's dedicated to that event. The best part? IMO? The humongous, fenced-in off-leash dog area. It is huge. SO SO much room for dogs to run free. And there are ample water coolers on picnic tables scattered about, with dog bowls on the ground below, for the dogs to drink. (I saw all the dog owners emptying out their personal water bottles into these coolers - as did my kid. So apparently the dog parents keep these coolers filled). Everyone was happy and the dogs were in heaven. (I also liked the pedestrian bridge we had to walk over to access this dog park area. It was charming). Bonus: tons of free parking in large parking lots in areas abutting the park. read more

This review is for the disc gold course-the other part of the park looked beautiful though. The disc golf course is majestic. I played 18 in October in the off and in rain, and it was amazing. The course is above average difficulty with many tight lines, but it does have a few wide open holes where you are able to unleash and not necessarily worry about hitting a tree. It took us about 3 hours to play the 18. The holes are fairly easy to find, the signage is up to date and the course is very clean. If you have every played the Golden Gate park in San Francisco, Pier Park is very similar but bigger. Definitely recommend. * you can park inside of the loop right by hole 1 tee pad. read more

I feel so #blessed to live so close to Pier Park. I recently got into disc golf (dilf) and this park offers an amazing course just minutes from my house. I never knew how good I had it until I went down to Los Angeles this winter and saw the sad state of their dilf courses. This park offers a great 18 hole course that is suitable for people at any stage of their dilf game. It's a great beginner course because it is difficult to lose a disc since the undergrowth is kept in check. It's also great for intermediates and experts because some holes have long drives and other have trees causing them to be quite technical. The park offers several other amenities and seems to have something for just about everyone. There's a skate park at one end for the youngins and some tennis courts that I almost never see being used. There are also soccer and baseball areas if that's your bag. I see people jogging, biking, and walking their animals quite frequently and the park is large enough to allow this without getting onto the dilf course or being hit by an errant disc. My one gripe with the park is the upkeep. There is some trash in the park. Some of it is definitely left by lowlife dilfers that are drinking as they play. I don't mind the drinking, but come on, there are ample trash cans. Some of it is caused by the transient population that makes the park their home. Also the city is slow to clear fallen branches after wind storms. Hole three still has a giant branch and fallen tree right in the middle of it. Finally, why the hell does the city close the bathrooms during the winter when it's definitely open to dilfing year round. Now I have to use a tree like a wild animal. All in all, Pier Park is definitely my favorite place to #dilf and I've even considered moving to St Johns for it. read more

I've visited this park a couple times for one reason: disc golf. There are many amenities including a softball field, tennis courts, picnic tables and a playground but I came for the disc. There's a pleasant little 18-hole course tucked inside this park. It winds through the wooded areas and reminds me a lot of the course in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. It's reasonably challenging but not overly easy either - very accessible to a wide range of skill levels. There's a healthy variety of hole layouts although quite a few are just straight, flat shots through some trees. Nevertheless, I've thoroughly enjoyed the 2 rounds I've played here and would highly recommend this park to anyone exploring Portland disc golf courses. read more

Ahhh! Such a beautiful, pine tree filled park with rolling , scenic trails ( paved and unpaved). It was a quiet morning to run (a bit over a mile loop) but there were dogs and mothers with strollers or packs. So much room to breathe! There are many access points around the park but I came in by the seasonal pool which is drained for the fall/winter I am sure. There is a disc golf course throughout the whole park which must be popular on weekends! Being new to the area, I can't wait to see this place during each season. read more

This is truly a hidden gem in terms of Portland Parks. It does not attract the crowds like Forest Park, and is tucked away in far North Portland near St. Johns. There are so many trees and nice shaded areas, and a great place to escape the hustle and bustle without having to leave the city. I know a lot of people come here for disc golf, but it's also a great place to do some light hiking, run and bring your dog. I hardly have anything negative to say about Portland parks in general, but this is my favorite so far. read more

I haven't really stopped thinking about Pier Park since we were there in July 2017 for our honeymoon. Quick back story: my husband introduced me to disc golf when we first started dating. Over the past 5 years, I've become addicted. This was definitely one of the high points of our trip! Lovelovelove - The trees. Wow. I'm a Texas girl, so you've got to drive to East Texas to see any sort of tree taller than 20 feet. The trees and really just overall scenery at PP was just stunning. So. Many. Pictures. - The course itself! The holes vary in terms of what your path will be like, but there aren't any that are too painfully frustrating. - The disc golf community; I'm not sure if we got lucky on the day we went or if this is really what the west coast is all about, but every disc golfer we ran into was super cool. Don't get me wrong, we've got great people in Texas too, but it just seemed like everyone was so... well, chill. ;) It was awesome getting to meet some local players and have them suggest other cool things to do while we were in town. Dislike - Pfffft. What's there to dislike? It's free and beautiful. And you're close to the river. ONLY downfall was we weren't positive which way to go at the beginning of the course, but we ran into a cool local guy who showed us the way for the remainder of the round. Pretty sure we could have also pulled the map up via uDisc. 10/10 will be back next time we're in town! read more

Some days you just have to rise above it all. Pier Park is the place I come to do that. It would be a crime if I didn't because an entrance to the park is literally a minute's walk from my front door (well maybe more if I stop and talk to somebody). I appreciate all there is to do (swimming, skateboarding, dog park, disk golf), but the sense of instant calm is where it's at for me. The trees are a mix of cedar and fir and so tall and thick that if it's raining elsewhere, I often don't feel the rain here (trees - the original umbrellas). They were also were kind enough to shed some of their branches for my Christmas greenery. Others have mentioned the Blair Witch Project qualities of the park, which I suppose is why the TV series, Grimm, is filmed here. And you know what? Pier Park hasn't been spoiled by Hollywood; in fact, I'd like to think Pier Park's good solid Portland values have rubbed off on Hollywood. So, how ever you choose to enjoy it, I hope you get a chance to visit Pier Park and find out what it means to you. read more

Little slice of hidden heaven... Pier Park does have everything a park should have - walking paths, disc golf (this place is swarming with discers, is that what they call themselves?), pool (which I heard will be renovated this fall/winter, YAY!), playground, playing fields, bbqs, brand new skatepark and lots of big tall trees! I love this park. It doesn't quite compare to my number one - Mt Tabor but it comes pretty close. For one, it is a great refuge for me from my residence along truck infested Lombard. The trees are freaking incredible! During the summer months, the trees keep you cool... during the cooler/wetter months, the trees keep you dry. How much better can it get? read more

Last winter I took up disc golfing and have been totally hooked ever since. I've been averaging about one dilf session a week since then, most of which has been at Pier Park. A quick 15 minute drive from my home and I'm surrounded by towering Sequoias and Doug Firs. While Portland is known for its amazing parks, Pier really takes the cake. The dilf course here is truly top notch. You've got everything from wide open fairways to tight tree filled tunnel shots. There's tricky uphill drives, big downhill power drives, and a couple hard doglegs. All the baskets have been recently replaced and are a really nice dayglow green. Super easy to spot. Teepads are all nice concrete, but unfortunately the signs always seem to be missing from most of them. Because of this some of the holes can be difficult to navigate, so if it's your first time I would absolutely bring a map. Make sure you've got the right one, as the course changes drastically between summer and winter layouts. Parking at Pier is usually pretty good. Next to the first hole of the dilf course there is always ample street parking. On a sunny weekend day when it seems like everybody and their mother is dilfing you may have to walk a bit, but it's never that bad. The main drawback of the proximity of Pier to central Portland is that it can get super crowded on those nice days. Throw a couple extra well concealed beers in your dilf bag and be prepared to do a bit of waiting to tee up. While most of my time is spent wandering through the forest hucking plastic into trees, there's an awesome skate park, multiple soccer and baseball fields, ample picnicking areas, tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, water play areas, and tons of walking paths. There's seriously something in this park for everyone young and old. read more

Pier Park is one of the great gems of parks within Portland. This park as EVERYTHING under the sun practically. There is a brand new 11000 sq ft skatepark, a disc golf course, baseball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, picnic areas, swimming pool, the train runs by it and lots of fields to lounge in. This park is massive!(87 acres+). There's even a giant dreamcatcher somewhere in the park. You could easily get lost(or live) here! read more

From the playground with summer time water fountain/splash area to the great wooded setting, this is such a well rounded park. Add the skate park, baseball diamond, soccer field, playground, covered meeting area and it quickly outshines other area metro-parks. It's also easily accessible, being a few blocks away from the west end of St. John's mainstreet (Lombard). But the best thing about Pier Park is the disc golf course. I play this course frequently (3+ times a week) and just love it. It has a great use of elevation, different shot approaches, and a range of difficulty levels from pin to pin. If you're a beginner to intermediate disc golfer I highly recommend a visit to this course. If I lived any closer I'd be at Pier Park damn near everyday. It's that good. read more

Coming from the Midwest where I disc golfed (dilfed) with some frequency, I have to say that having a course so lush, beautiful, and well laid out as Pier Park so close to Portland is just amazing. It puts the courses I dilfed at back home to shame, and after having dilfed at some of the top rated dilf courses in a 45 mile radius of PDX, I still think that this may be my favorite or at least top 3. Located in St Johns, Pier Park is a quick drive or bus ride from downtown Portland. The course starts of fairly unassuming, with a few holes that are through some open fields that border the forest. Once you get done with hole 2 and head to 3, you really start to get into some beautiful, scenic forest with well thought out, challenging holes of all distances and layouts. Some of the holes can be quite frustrating, with dense clusters of douglas fir trees forming a seemingly impenetrable barrier between the tee pad and the basket. Even when the course can be the most frustrating, it is still a treat to be dilfing in such beautiful surroundings. The course is 18 holes, and there are winter and summer hole placements so if it is your first time playing it is probably worth it to bring a map unless you are going with someone who knows the course layout. Being the closest and highest quality course close to Portland, it can definitely get crowded during the summer and on nice days throughout the year. If you aren't having to wait for other groups, budget about 2 - 2 1/2 hours to play through all 18. Pier Park, where is your pier?? I do not appreciate such deceit! You made me google your name and discover that you are in fact named after Stanhope S. Pier, mayor of Portland in 1931. Despite the lack of pier, this park is one of my favorites due to its nationally renowned disc golf course. When playing this course it feels like you're hiking through a forest from Lord of the Rings. (I even spotted a few people LARPing amongst the trees). There are also many hills to walk up and down so its a great way to get in some pseudo-exercise and feel kinda good about yourself while pounding beers. I found that it can get busier on the weekends but the course is so large that you get spread out easily and never feel crowded. That being said it's very easy to get lost between tees and at those times it really does feel like you're trekking through Middle Earth. Luckily, everyone I've come across here has been incredibly friendly and helpful and has pointed me in the right direction. Pier park: the perfect place for the weekend frolfer, pro, and apparently hardcore LARPer. read more

The skatepark here is great for being out in the middle-of-nowhere-corner-of-st-johns.. like it has a super deel bowl that only a few of the guys can skate, then there is a medium, average sized small bowl, and then there is a little bowl. Then they have some rails and crap... you can google the photos. I don't skate at skate parks because I simply don't know how to. I only can carve hills and surf. I went here cause I needed to take some interesting photos for my photography class. I went up to the guys and asked them if I could take photos of them, and they said yes. (Always ask). I was there for like 30 minutes, and a few of the guys were super chill and we were talkin' and stuff. They said that you couldn't go do what I did (ask to take photos) at the burnside park cause it's more localized there...understandable. In other words, nice crowd here if you're a chill, nonjudgmental person. But I did tell them I'm from Hawai'i and I surf (and I look like a surfer), so that did give me a leg up. I don't recommend bringing your kids here when all the guys are skating. They don't really care about little kids. This mom brought her daughter who was teaching herself how to skate in bowls, and it was incredibly inspiring and cute, but the guys were just skating all over the place and not really paying attention to her, in fact, one of the guys sped right by her really fast... so I just wouldn't bring your children here when the guys are all over the place skating. You might want to start your child off at a smaller skatepark. read more

This and Columbia were the parks of my very early youth, about a million years ago. All the little league baseball games here, all the trips to the public outdoor pool! Now they've got the park carved up and par-sectioned off in such crazy trajectories---especially at Dead Man's Hill! How dare they try to protect kids from being kids! Now they have doggie poo stations, and Disc Golf-----WTF? What California demons have landed here and taken over this park while we weren't looking? I just know that some how, some way, The influence of California and its wussified little safety laws are behind the bastardization of this glorious park. Damn you, California! Give us our Park back! Every time I walk through this park (almost everyday), I think to myself, "I can't believe I get to live here!". This park is the epitome of Portland living. I can literally walk into a forest-ey wonderland a few steps from my front door! Maybe it's just that I'm originally from a place full of concrete and highways. You may not think this is the best park in Portland. And I'm sure it's not. But it's close to me, has a playground for the kids, disc golf for the family, tennis courts, pool, fountain, skate park.... the list goes on and on. I'll say it again... One of the more challenging disc golf parks in Portland is found here at Pier Park. You will find nice cement tee pads around the course and fairly challenging holes with changing elevation and lots and lots and lots of trees in the way. I also enjoy the fact that I can walk around with my dog off leash and occasionally drink a beer as well which makes for a great afternoon. read more

This course is gorgeous and fun to play, challenging to avoid obstacles. I give it few stars simply because every time we've come here we've been hampered by the sloooooow play of others. It is really out of control. Weekdays, weekends, doesn't seem to matter. Sloooooooooow. So if you are super slow, go for it. I'm just an average player, it's nothing to do with skill. I really love this park! It's such a jewel in the St. John's area. It's a beautiful, older growth forested area located among the neighborhoods and industrial area. It's got a disc golf course (which I haven't tested yet) but it seems really nice. I walk my dogs here and run along the beautiful trails through the park. The location seems a little shady at first, but it really seems very safe, and there are usually lots of people there during normal hours. It's also very close to my house which is perfect to take the dogs on a nice, more secluded walk away from the busy roads. Also has a pool, baseball field, picnic tables and shelters, and tons of other useful amenities. read more
