Pier One was a nice-looking, upstairs place on the main shopping strip in Merimbula. It's main feature was an expansive window-front looking on to the boardwalk and estuary (called the "Lake" by locals.) Tables next to this window were at a premium.
Our party ate here on a few occasions for dinner when we felt like going someplace nicer than a pub, but not going too fancy either.
The menu was small, but the food was pretty good. It's a shame that the service was on slow side. They were prompt to get our initial orders for drinks and meals but then left us alone for long stretches. On our last visit my beer glass (and others' wine glasses) sat empty for about 10 minutes before we eventually decided to flag someone down for refills.
Decent variety on the menu here. On my last visit I tried the seafood medley in a light curry sauce. Nicely done and tasty, if a little small. For dessert I chose the chocolate tart, which was a little disappointing, since it was difficult to eat - The crust was tough enough to need a knife, but they had taken mine away with the meal (and the wait staff was again unavailable). In the end I had to wrestle it apart with my fork (with one piece, sadly, flying off the table).
They seem to be doing some things right here, but also dropping the ball in other areas. Pier One gets an average rating from me. read more
