I stumbled upon this park looking to take my nieces on the water ride "the beast." We walked from 42nd and 7th Avenue on a hot and humid evening. To my dismay, we were too late for water ride which my nieces still complain about to this day, LOL. I told my nieces lets sit for a while and chill before we head back down to eat. Wow, I am so happy we decided to hang out in the area. We used the bathrooms which were surprisingly clean. We sat and enjoyed the water view. There were people sitting at the tables and chairs feasting and chilling. They have a nice water sprinkler area for kids and adults, LOL. It was soo hot I was tempted to run through that water. We saw people enjoying their cruises with cocktails in hands. They have a small and cute dog park. We saw people canoeing right next to the Intrepid. The pier has so many cool activities or you can just sit back, chill and enjoy the beautiful water views. read more

It is an absolute disgrace and embarrassment that the restrooms here at 8:30 am on a Sunday morning are not open. There is a line of people waiting on the boat and the dog run, joggers an important hub. read more

A little bit of Heaven in Hell's Kitchen. The Pier 84 Park is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of NYC, while you are in NYC... The park has: *A cool fountain, that kids and "big kids" love to run through *Tables and chairs at the end of the pier that are great to sit in and watch the boats go by *A grassy patch that folks love to lie on to sunbathe during the warmer months *A dog park *A great view of the Intrepid *Close to the Circle Line - so, if you're going to take a cruise, you can stop by here before or after to take a stroll along the pier. *A Bike 'n Roll stand - although, the prices aren't too cheap I make it a point to go here most warm nights when I'm in NYC to catch the Sunset. It is truly a relaxing experience. p.s....If you're thirsty for a cocktail, you can stop the PD O'Hurley's bar -but, be warned, drink prices are high, food quality is not so great. read more

I think I found my oasis. I was walking along the walk/run path to Hudson River Park and came to a stop to check out the USS Intrepid, only to discover this gem and fall in love with it. Never made my way to the park, actually. Before you get to the end of the pier, you'll come across a small dog park, an open water sprinkler, and a water station/playground (can't describe it, but it's cute), and patches of grass with trees. There are also two portapotties at the end of the pier, in case nature calls. It's quiet, serene, and absolutely beautiful.. a great place to sunbathe, picnic, read a good book, nap, or write. The only 'noise' was the tour guide of the Circle Line Cruiseship, but the boat leaves the dock in a matter or seconds, so it's not that big of a deal. Didn't hear one car honk, so it's a great place to get away from the hustle & bustle of the city. The view of the Hudson is great, and I honestly don't mind seeing Jersey across the river. I must've laid out on one of the wooden benches at the end of the pier for a good hour or so... and it was lovely. read more

I lived next to this pier for years. Was there before it was more or less rebuilt. Now its terrific. As the River Walks have improved the pier has too. They have various restaurants and coffee shops. There's lots of open space for performers and people in general. There are events during the summer that are super cool and fun. While called Pier 84, its actually located around 42nd street. The ferry to NJ runs nearby. The Intrepid is right there. So is the Chinese Embassy, which occasionally gets picketed, but that's another great thing about NYC. You never know what to expect. This is a great outdoor space that NYers and tourists all enjoy. read more

The fact that this pier has a nice dog park with plenty of running water and 2 kiddie pools for our pups to jump in makes this a nice spot to hang out. You can get a great view of the intrepid from here, and also a plus is they have a whole mess of bike racks so I can lock up my bike with basket for my pup. read more

I came to Pier 84 for SantaCon yesterday and it was tons of fun. I've been to pier 84 a million times before and it deserves a quality review. First lets talk about the place itself, the views and sights are wonderful. It's breathtaking sights are fantastic. You get beautiful views from the westside of Manhattan looking onto the Hudson. There also is plenty to do at pier 84. You have the U.S.S. Intrepid. A former battleship which has now been turned into a museum. You can see some pretty amazing images and artifacts on board. There is the circle line, a slow moving ship which sails around the Hudson, showing some iconic images along the way. A possible sight seeing option for someone visiting the city. Lastly, we have to talk about The Beast. The Beast is a high powered speed boat which can fit a about 100 people. It goes fast so on quick turns you're sure to get wet if you sit on the sides. It doesn't stop there, the crew like to have fun and wet people. Water guns, buckets and even water balloons. These guys have fun. They'll even blast some music and when you get to The Statue of Liberty, they'll let you take out your cameras to take some pictures. Pier 84 has a lot to offer. read more

What a great spot! Right next to Intrepid and a great view of the Manhattan skyline. I went here today for the "Run10Feed10" 10k run. The park comes out quite a bit from the mainland so you get to get away from bustle of the West Side Highway and just listen to the water....(and the wind!). There's a bar/restaurant right by the entrance as well as bathrooms around. Plus lots of seats and benches to sit on. read more

It was one of those serendipitous moments. Let me paint a picture: Lovely sun setting on the Hudson River while I walked along the Drive from 125th St in Harlem and all of a sudden I hear Music! But not just any music, 1920s JAZZ BIG BAND MUSIC. Ummm........ heck and YES! And there I go running down the pier like I stole somethin' to check it out! What a night! Before I knew it I was in the arms of a dance instructor who was showing me how to "cut a rug 1920s style", doing the Charleston with a Queen who moonlights as a comedian in the Village and getting hair styling tips from a nice French couple who were in full PERIOD ATTIRE. The 18 piece band was AMAZING and played all my favorite songs from all of those darling black & white movies I love to watch! I was so tired and sooo sweaty (I'm CERTAIN some of it was not mine) that I was weighing the decision to jump in the river to cool down. The only thing that stopped me was the sharp reminder that ONE -- This is NYC and some type of deformed sea-creature version of a rat, poodle and dolphin may emerge to eat me. And TWO is the Rat/Poodle/ Dolphin creature didn't get me the sheer amount of chemicals and pollution in the river would surely eat through at least some of the my greatly needed bodily organs. read more

Great place to catch a show or to host a giant event. Luckily, I was able to do both at once. It's a big space, with grass and trees. At the event I went to, they brought in multiple food trucks, which was excellent. The views of the sunset are spectacular, and there's a lot of standing room. read more

Love bringing the kids I babysit here! What little boy (or grown man for that matter) doesn't look up to the Intrepid in awe!? Love when they turn these old ships into museums. Aside from the museum there is a nice little grass patch to lay back and relax, dog park, tables and chairs, and two kids fountains for the summer months! Beautiful and not overly crowded - this park was maybe 90% empty when we came walking down after dinner on a Friday night. Incredibly relaxing, it felt like we had left the city. Fun to see the side of the Intrepid on one side and a different part of the NYC skyline. The ships nearby will give a fun toot. There were a couple of people picnicking on the grass, and there are lots of benches along the park as well as near the water. Lovely find. read more

This place is beautiful in many way. From great free stuff (I got a free greek yogurt) to grass sitting around as well as occasional music festival. I would go there for a quiet sunday picnic if you want to do something cheap and fun. Also there's a dog playground which is really cute. I get to take picture of them on my visit. read more

Sometimes I go with my friend though the Hudson bike path to work out and enjoy the place. I went the Pier 84 before and had a few drinks at the bar, next to the water fountain. I've always liked Pier 84 a lot! If interested, you have the Intrepid Museum next to it. We went this past Saturday and, to our surprise, there was a festival with a band playing. It was awesome, we really enjoyed it! It was very crowded, but that's fine. It was a weekend and the festival. If you go during the week, it is usually not crowded. You can go to the bar or relax on the grass. read more

Some of my greatest planking pictures have been here. Pier 84 really has it all and now i attempt to list all: - Pj Clarke's complete with large outdoor seating and frozen slushy sugary drinks. - Coolest skipping water fountain on the west-side. Goes from high to low, strong to soft. I'm not sure why more runners don't stop here and continue on their journey. - Dog park, kind of weak but still they have a hose at least? - Fun water station for kids and adults to play in (perfect for a date, ahem). - Metal round tables with connecting chairs overlooking the NY Harbor; cruise ships, sailboats, kayaks everything.. (perfect for a date, anyone can pay for a dinner but do you have what it takes to pack a picnic basket, ahem). - Grass to lay out and sunbathe also complete with a few trees if you fancy laying in the shade and reading a book or checking out all of the tourists. - Long wooden benches at the very tip of the pier, watch out people actually get splinters on them though (ahem). - A perfect view of the Intrepid right next door, hence all the planking pictures. - And lastly, you can actually rent boats for a quick sail... what a pier... read more

Great outdoor space! Went here for a work event and its huge. You can spread out booths and you get a decent view of Hoboken.

I really like this park and don't like it at the same time. When it is quiet or they are holding an event that everyone can join, I love it. In summer there are a lot of bodies lying in the grass getting tanned. In spring and fall, if it is warm, people will sit on the benches. In winter it is not so crowded. Some weekends they will hold events such as Beer & Barbecue or they will start a fund raising walk, so it gets crowded and loud. On other occasions they will hold a concert, some free and some you have to pay for. The best is in summer on Sunday nights when they will have a free concert, either latin music or blue grass. Lots of people come out to listen or dance. They also have the annual tug boat race down the Hudson and after the race, several of the boats dock. There is a dog run, a small water park for kids, and MKC (Manhattan Kayak Company) and the Intrepid across the pier. What I don't like is the party boats from the Circle Line coming in with drunk guests or the crowd that gathers near the back side of the pier to partake in smoking weed and get into fights or grinding under their blanket. Seems some people will sleep in the grass as well, and by that I mean bring their pillows and blankets. No need for any of that. read more

This is a nice place to get away. I rode the Beast and it was such an adventure! The tour guy was very funny and made the ride very enjoyable. He was great at taking pictures for groups. There are other boat rides I plan to try. read more
