Flounder
Vivian H.

My husband and I just had lunch at pier 8, this is probably our 4th time here. You can't get fresher seafood than here! We have tried scallops, shrimp and several kinds of fish. This time we opted for the flounder. People here are always friendly, with a smile on their faces, you always feel welcomed. And there's something about this place that makes you feel like home. They sell you the seafood by the pound or half. Our flounder was 2 pounds! I know!! We also had fried rice with it. Service is quick even though the place was packed. Fried to perfection here comes our fish, and the rice it's amazing every time. This place never disappoints!

When you walk into the establishment, it gives you fisherman vibes with the plethora of fresh seafood on the table. You stand in line and wait to be called by a worker and you choose the fish, shrimp, scallops, or squid that you want. You also select if you want the fish fillet or fried whole with the head / tail on. I selected fillet. The fish and shrimp are fried in a flour breading which is good but not seasoned. They give you a little container of all purpose seasoning to sprinkle on your food. The fries and the fried rice were really good. I chose to sit outside and enjoy the breeze from the water.. I highly recommend you try this restaurant

You buy they cook.... All was fresh and classic to taste... Just a clean and simple coating on the seafood... nothing fancy but cooked to perfect... simple sides french fries... No franks or Louisiana hot sauce...

Awesome seafood market! Walked in and instantly greeted! We selected our items and explained how we wanted them cooked. Found our seats and waited a short time for our huge trays of food! Ordered shrimp, both fried and boiled, calamari, and tilapia! Huge sides of fries and drink and we were good to go! Really fresh seafood cooked simply. Can't go wrong! A must try if you're in the area!

My family and I have been customers of pier 8 for many years. They're a seafood market who can cook seafood that you handpick. They can fry, steam, or turn your seafood into sinigang (Filipino sour soup - the owners are Filipino!). The place definitely doesn't have the best aesthetic. It's literally a fish market as you walk in - you can just buy fresh seafood and take it home or you can pick your seafood and have them cook it. My family usually gets fish and shrimp fried - they definitely know how to fry seafood here! They also have eggrolls, fries and a few more fried sides to choose from. The staff is pretty friendly and prompt. Seating is usually outside in a covered area so it could get pretty warm during the summer. They do have lots of fans to help with that. It does get packed here during the weekend, so be prepared to wait. Overall, this place has been a solid place for us. It's a pretty unique concept for this area that they've been doing for years. We'll definitely keep coming back.

What a beautiful experience! Historical Filipino owned restaurant. The Pampano soup was naimas (delicious). Fried catfish was perfectly prepared. Great service. If you want fresh fish and shrimp, Pier Eight is where you want to go.

I love the concept where you picked your own seafood and they fry it for you. Seafood is fresh and the price is more than reasonable. You can't get away with such low prices at a regular restaurant. No frills = No A/C but at that low price point for fresh seafood, bring your own pocket fan if you must. You have to queue to get to the fish counter, after which you pick your seafood and they give you a number. You pay at the one and only cashier and go grab a seat. They will bring the food out to you. Overall, it's a great experience with the exception of the heat. I spoke with a local there and she said they are usually not that busy. We were there in Memorial Day long weekend so we figured it'll be busy. Will return whenever we are in the area.

This is a whole in the wall but fish is SUPER FRESH! They have a HUGE variety of seafood and you get it by the pound. You can get it raw or they can cook it for you. We dinned in and despite being so crowded the food came out very fast. There's no seasoning or condiments that go into your food. Tables have salt, pepper and hot sauce. Food is served with lemon wedges, cocktail sauce and tartare. The line was extra long and finding parking was a complete mission.

You don't come for the parking, cleanliness, or service. You come here for the seafood and the seafood only LOL! Has a very hole-in-the-wall feel. Right by Galveston Bay, this spot serves many different types of fish cooked fresh per order. You can even choose exactly which fish you want from behind the counter! Would recommend on a hot day with a cold soda or glass of beer. They have both covered and outdoor seating. Even the locals love Pier 8! My family has been coming here for years and have said this place never disappoints! See you all again next time I'm in town

The food here has ALWAYS been on point! They have the freshest seafood, cooked to perfection and the staff is always friendly and will bring you anything you need. Have been coming here for over 20 years and the quality has only gotten better with time. Highly recommend!

Red snapper, jumbo shrimps, oysters .. Total $87

Choose your own seafoods and they will fry for you. Foods were good, super fresh, not much greasy. Service was alright. Pretty pack if you come during lunch or dinner time, be patience to find parking. Not enough parking, and it so narrow. Plenty of seats indoor/outdoor. If you want a cool breeze i suggest to seat outside.

Just wow!! I never knew this place existed, if you are fan of fresh fried seafood this is the place to go! Located at the edge of Seabrook/Kemah border, the restaurant is a no frills fish market/restaurant. The concept is simple, choose your fish/shrimp/calamari - etc by the pounds/price listed - you pick it they fry it up! Also order-able - fries, onion rings, white rice. You pay for your meal and then pick your seating outside and wait about 20-25 minutes for them to prep your order fresh - they bring the food out to you. What we ordered: Red snapper Shrimp Catfish Squid (calamari) Fries White rice All were EXCELLENT!! The batter used is tasty, deep fried to perfection. Though the meal was on the pricier side-- it's seafood! - the price you pay and the freshness you get + the amount of food - no complaints!!

The seafood to choose from.

The fried shrimp were okay. The flavor was not amazing. The calamari definitely had a weird texture.

Pier 8 Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Pier 8

Is the food cooked or do you cook at home!?

They can cook it for you there either boiled or fried or you also have the option of buying it by the pound raw and cooking it at home.

Can you bring pets to the outdoor seating?

Is it wheelchair accessible!?

yes but the bathrooms probably hard to get to

What time does this place close?

8:30 on Saturdays.

Qué tal está el lugar?

Does this mean "how is the place"? Its very casual and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. Decent place but since there is fresh seafood expect wet floors :) hope this helps.

I told my mum for Christmas I don't want the same ole holiday meat of turkey since I had that for Thanksgiving. I wanted something more tasty: fried fish and shrimp. Preferably a grand tasting fish: Red Snapper. Yup, oh boy yes, that good ole thick and ocean tasting red fish. Upon our arrival, my mum, sister and I walked to this fairly large building with a mountain high of stairs. Once inside the fish market smelled of its native catch and it was strong. However, the owner seen how we crunched our noses up in disgust. She immediately started to ease the smell by cleaning the floors with some mopping solution. That masked the odor a little bit until we left. Anywho, the fishes were laid up eyes open and staring at us. Although, these fish were already dead laying on a bed of ice to keep them fresh. The prices listed were affordable and market by a pound. My mum picked out some gulf shrimp and a few pieces of red snapper. I also seen what tilapia looked like as the fish isn't very pretty, but my mum adores the taste. The Atlantic salmon was beautiful looking. There were many breeds of salmon. The sheepshead fish was definitely cheap and the taste of it is amazingly soft and delicious. I sampled the one my sister caught. We proceeded towards the cash register to pay and as we assumed our meat to be sky high, it actually wasn't. Additionally, when it came Christmas Day, I had myself a full meal of pan-fried red snapper and shrimp. The taste of the red snapper was delicious. For me, I enjoy eating fish that tastes from its natural habitat, it really delights my appetite for more. My dad butterflied the shrimp and wow the taste was incredibly yummy. Consequently, there's plenty of parking. The location is just near the Pier 8 restaurant and on a strip of other fish market competitors. So, choose wisely. Now, I'm glad to say my Houston family visits this fresh market often. No more shopping at Fiesta for freshness.

(Great place, the owners are fantastic, and if you have not been by there, why not? ) Back to the brewery. I was pleasantly surprised by this visit. Perhaps it was because it was after dark, the place was nicely lit, and we sat at the bar. The first time in was in the cold light of day, the place felt like a high school cafeteria and we all turned around and bounced right on out of there. Night time, the cosy lighting, and sitting at the bar with the restaurant (cafeteria feel) behind you is so much better. I found their service lacking for the lack of patrons in the place. Our glasses were empty for far longer than they should have been and we had to wait on our check to leave. The servers did appear to have great conversations with each other at the other end of the bar. Perhaps being more mindful of their customers would be more appropriate. The pluses are the Blueberry Blonde was as good as I remembered and we were introduced to Celtic Cross mead which led to a visit to their meadery. Would I come back? Yes. Whenever I feel called upon to partake of a Blueberry Blonde and when it is evening to avoid that high school cafeteria feel of the place.
