We were out in a canoe for 2 hours and it cost us just 18EUR. As well as canoes, you could hire pedalos, kayaks and rowing boats for up to 6 people from anything between an hour (7EUR minimum) to a whole day (80EUR maximum) The staff are fairly friendly and speak English too. One little warning though, you will be expected to leave your passport with them until you return the boat.

Given that I am a native English speaker and still consider my German to be so-so, I was a bit apprehensive about signing up for a sailing course since the end-goal is obviously to pass both the written and practical exam to receive one's sailing license. Needless to say, my convinced me to give it a shot and I'm glad that I did. The Prusse staff was extremely accommodating and would explain things in English if I was a bit uncertain about the German explanation. In the end, I passed both the practical and written exam and now am a proud holder of a sailing license in Germany. Almost nobody fails the practical exam as it's recommended that you complete 40 hours of sailing before taking the exam, but quite a few people do not pass the written exam. My words of advice- buy the book that Prusse offers! After spending so much on the sailing course, don't skimp out on buying the textbook for an additional 30 euro. It's completely necessary! They changed the format of the exam to all multiple choice, which I was beyond excited about. You're notified right after taking the exam if you've passed or failed.

Renting the boats was an easy process, despite some translation difficulties with the first worker we spoke to on the dock. We just said what boats we wanted, left an ID, went on the lake as long as we wanted, and paid for the time when we returned. I would recommend only two people per row boat. You may fit three, but it is very challenging to have more than one person try to row. After working up an appetite in the boats, we ate at the restaurant. The weather was perfect, the view was beautiful and the meal was delicious. Chicken wings are one of my favorite foods, so I have them often. I never expected to have one of the best meals of chicken wings of my life on a dock in Germany, but I did. There were not English menus so we took some gambles on our orders, but everyone really enjoyed each entree. Our server was not great, but view and food more than made up for it.

Best way to sight see around the alster? - rent a pedal boat from this place!…read more They offer really nice pedal boats that look like actual boats versus the usual plastic and weird pedal boats we have seen before. The boats are super easy to navigate with the steering wheel and quite comfortably fits two people. The seats are easily adjustable so if you are super tall or super short you will be fine. The first time I got a pedal boat I did not know if this added feature! I would recommend getting the boat for about an hour at least so you can enjoy and take in the amazing view! The prices are reasonable! They even offer lockers for you to put your stuff in free of charge if you do not want to risk them getting wet. Definitely put this at the top of your list if you are visiting or even if you live in hamburg.
