Poached eggs, spinach, tomato and avocado.

This cafe is in the Begonia House at the Lady Norwood Rose Garden. It's clearly a favourite mid-week lunch spot for people of "a certain age" - and I believe buses bring people from the cruise ships when they are in town too. It's busy at lunchtime and very noisy, so if you want a quiet chat over lunch then you should go elsewhere. There's a large outdoor patio which would probably be quieter, if it wasn't too windy to sit out there. The food is okay, with cabinet food such as croissants and rolls - and there are several items on the menu. My companion and I struggled to find a table at noon. We got scrambled eggs on toast and poached eggs with spinach tomato and avocado. The service staff could do with some brushing up on customer service skills. The coffee is okay.

The setting is beautiful and the worth the visit. However, the food leaves a bit to be desired and it is too pricey for what you get.

Food was overpriced and took ages to arrive. When it finally arrived it was cold. Would not recommend.

We ordered the fruit crepe which was absolutely beautiful with whipped cream. The crepe was beautifully cooked with a slight crisp on the edges, and the fruit (strawberries, kiwis and bananas) were all served fresh alongside whipped cream. For our savory dish, we ordered the mixed platter with in house smoked salmon, green lipped mussels, fries and mesclun salad which we devoured in under 5 minutes. All in all, this meal was the highlight of our day in Wellington and we'd happily come back if given the chance. BONUS: Free WiFi

This is the new Brittany who has speared a spot on the block, since my last visit to Welly!…read more A great new cafe in down-town Welly. The service isn't all that fast but who cares, the staff are friendly and passionate enough about French regional cuisine to make up for it! It was the perfect spot for a lunch-time catch up with my sis-in-law who works for Adventure Travel across the road! It wasn't easy making a decision, we couldn't decide if we wanted to embark on a quick escape to Burgundy via the Beef Bourguignon or take a trip to the French Alps via the Gratin Dauphinois! In the end, we settled for neither and opted for steaming, hot bowls of authentic French onion soup, most generously topped with the grilled, gooey goodness of Gruyere cheese! From there, we journeyed onto the Western point of Brittany via their famous galettes! With over seven options to choose from, the crepes definitely rule this place! Bonjour et bienvenue au Cafe Breton!
