What a fantastic little find in Ely on a cold day when hungry! Quirky yet charming decor, a warm welcome from the barman and seated straightaway in the cosy warmth. We were surprised by the extensive menu, which included vegan/vegetarian/gluten free/egg free/milk free choices. It took a while to decide what to eat with so much on offer but we finally decided on:
Bao Bun with sticky soy mushrooms - a small plate but it was full of savoury umami flavour from the samjang which highlighted the mushrooms. Sticky and delishy and finger licking good
Bombay cauliflower - small plate, medium spice with some bite left in the cauli, good choice
Cheddar and sweetcorn fritters - small plate, not too greasy, chock full of corn and moreish
Panang curry with shrimp - a main dish served on fluffy rice, plenty of protein, and a tangy curry sauce. A filling serving to warm you up on a cold day
Chicken Schwarma flat bread - huge serving, nicely presented with all the veggie and sauce trimmings, a feast from the east
Cherry Fakewell - an unusual mocktail which tasted exactly like a cherry bakewell tart! Creamy and sweet, served in a 1950s soda class with....a cherry on top :)
Service was good, prices competitive, seating was comfy, loved the photos lining the hallway to the restrooms, and clientele were all happy, from coffee n a cake to full on lunch. This is a chain of restaurants and I like the way they have styled them as Lounges, a blast from the past, updated, and very appealing. I wish I had a Lounge where I live! read more
