Unfortunately, my experience during this visit has completely changed the way I feel about your business. I am a pancreatic cancer survivor, and as a result, I occasionally experience sudden stomach issues that are completely unpredictable and beyond my control. When this happens, having immediate access to a restroom is not a convenience--it can be an absolute necessity. During my visit, I was experiencing such an emergency. I approached the employees at the register and, despite feeling extremely embarrassed and vulnerable, explained my situation and respectfully asked if I could please use the store's restroom. I understood that your store policy is the restroom is not for public use, and I would not have asked if I were not experiencing a genuine emergency. I was refused. I was told that the store had previously allowed customers to use the restroom and that on some occasions, employees were left with a mess to clean up. I understood that those experiences may have been frustrating, but I was standing there asking for help during a medical-related emergency. I assured the employees that I was not going to abuse the privilege, yet I was still told no and had to walk to the next building desperately looking for a restroom. I cannot adequately express how humiliating and upsetting that experience was. It was difficult enough to have to ask for help in such a vulnerable situation, but being refused when I was clearly in distress was incredibly disappointing. Businesses certainly have the right to establish policies, but I hope you will consider whether there should be some discretion for genuine emergencies--particularly when someone explains that they are dealing with a medical condition. A little compassion in that moment would have made an enormous difference. I have been a loyal customer and someone who has recommended your store to friends and family. Sadly, after this experience, I will no longer be visiting The Brush Factory, nor will I be recommending it to others. I sincerely hope you reconsider how situations like this are handled in the future. No customer should have to feel ashamed or humiliated for asking for help when they are experiencing an unexpected medical emergency.

It's quite fun, and while this year it was unusually freezing (I saw frozen sea foam), it was sunny and bright. While Lion was defrosting himself we decided to check out the local thrift scene...only to discover that most of the local thrift scene is closed on Sundays. Understandably, it's a beach town in winter. Unfinished Business was open so we headed there. The store is a little obscured from DE Route 1, there's a Panera Bread in front of their building and part of the building is a self storage company so unless you turn on the side street you will be looking at the next shopping center over and not finding it. It's like a treasure hunt for treasure. It's not a large store, however it was clean and what they had was reasonably well displayed, in the style of a retail store. They had some lovely clothing and housewares, at reasonable, but not bargain, prices. I did find a fantastic oversized fisherman style wool sweater, the kind you really need to wear a long sleeve shirt under 'cause it's kinda itchy but divinely warm, and a few knick nacks. Sheba found some clothes and a cool mug. The staff were friendly, though they mostly left us to do our browsing. Parking is easy, there's a large free private lot out front. This is a nice place for someone on vacation, or maybe outfitting a beach house, to pick things up, benefits some local charities, however it's not a stop for the thrift or bargain hunter.

I've seen stuff in Lewes Mercantile that I've seen in other antique stores for way way less than what Lewes is selling it for. And on top of that, the employees have not been very nice to me. I once asked if they have/ever get a certain item in and both ladies working at the counter quickly snapped and said no. Like any antique store though, they do have some deals, but rarely. I am just really sad to see this and I really wish it was way better. I am totally good with giving them a second chance if they improve, as I would LOVE an antique store downtown that had some deals! It's a great place to walk around and just look, but it's very expensive for the average person. I would try other antique stores first.
