If you're looking for a cheap meal on Schulterblatt, and in particular an affordable restaurant with outdoor seating for a rare and precious sunny day in Hamburg, Piazza is your place. Usually businesses on the same street, particularly stacked so closely together like they are on Schulterblatt, can't manage unless they offer the same prices on their menus. But it makes sense how Piazza remains as popular as its competitors despite its cheaper 6.50€ four hour lunch deal (12-4pm). The quantity is certainly there, but the salami, artichoke, olive and mushroom pizza went limp in my hand when I picked up a slice, and the flavor wasn't particularly memorable. The toppings are generous and the size as well, so a pizza or another meal deal special like a pasta dish or salad will fill you up for the price, but the flavor is just not really there. There's a minimal amount of sauce and it doesn't taste like much apart from tomato - no hints of other flavors. The crust is good, but it could be crispier/baked for longer. The middle of the pizza just gives way, and if you slice through the pizza, the cheese just comes off in huge slabs like you would anticipate from a Papa John's pizza.
Like I said though, Piazza is cheap and filling, and the waiter was really nice to us. He was also the only one working that day, and I felt a little more than sorry for him. The interior is not bad either, it's a little run down and cheap, but that's the nature of most everything in Schanze. Go with your friends here, or siblings/kids - not a great place for a date or nice enough to take your parents to. read more
