I enrolled in Plus Pool's Adult Learn to Swim classes last fall. I love water, but my first experience with swimming lessons as a child left me feeling afraid and unconfident for years. Cameron, Anna and Willow are amazing and effective instructors. They are patient, kind, funny, informative and teach with care. I appreciate the way the cadence of each class moves between group learning as well as quick one-on-one check ins and encouragement. In just two cycles of classes I can now swim in the deep end without feeling like I'm going to drown. Their instruction has helped me figure out how to be more present in my body, how to breathe, how to slow down and how to begin trusting myself in the water. read more

Different locations have pros and cons. Leman Upper on Greenwich has the nicest pool, large, deeper, but the locker room is tiny with no showers. Leman Prep on Broad is the busiest and has probably the smallest pool, but it has a lot of showers. CBE's pool's somewhere in the middle, and can be colder but the lockers are too small for a large backpack, so I often hang some things up. It does have showers. The staff is always very polite and helpful. Different strokes for different folks, so don't hesitate to try different schedules if something's not working out. I started as an adult beginner with a lifelong difficulty of learning to swim, and I've been able to progress faster than expected after getting the right instruction for me. read more

Multiple locations in manhattan, i always go to the downtown one in Leman prep school. Small pool only has 4 lanes but enough for the class size (usually 3-4 people). Great swimming drill class if you are intermediate/advanced swimmer and preparing for competitions. Instructors would give you timely feedbacks on your strokes to help you perfecting your skills. Also you can give the instructor personal request on what area of swimming you want to improve and they will help you design your personalized drill combos to meet your needs (speed, endurance and even just recovery from any kind of injuries). Make sure to bring your own swimming suits, caps, goggles and towel. And please, wear a one piece. Don't show up in a swimming class in bikinis its just weird.(My personal opinion) read more

This review is really for an instructor named "Greg" who taught me and my fiance how to swim freestyle properly. We took the adult beginner class at their Broad St. location in downtown many months ago, and I've wanted to write a review for him since. I want to emphasize the 5 stars are ONLY for Greg- he is by far the best. He explains the reasoning behind each gesture and positioning, and then breaks down the movements into isolated exercises so that you can really get the feel and gain muscle memory before putting it all together. Every movement is for achieving maximum swimming efficiency. For a nerd like me, I am thrilled to be able to understand the logic and then actually experience it physically. I'm actually not a beginner swimmer but my fiance is. I decided to take the lesson so that he is motivated to learn. I am SO glad I took the class because Greg made me a much better swimmer even though I already know how to swim. There is a huge difference between a great instructor and an average one: I know this because we had to take some makeup classes with other instructors. They were all very nice but not as good as Greg. It's really worth seeking him out if you're serious about improving your swimming skills. read more

Physique Swimming took over the management of my local pool aka The Riverdale Neighborhood House pool in the Bronx. Obviously they only opened this week and because of COVID-19 guidelines they are open only a few hours during the week and 11-7 p.m. on weekends. In the few days since they opened I have been dazzled by them. By taking our temps when we come in , to the entire staff remembering my name and greeting me when I come in. They obviously love their jobs and you can see that by the excellent way they perform them. Thank you to them for opening our local pool. read more

My kids love to swim so I luckily found this camp at the last minute. I'm glad that I did! This is our second year, my kids were 6 and 8 when they started, and are 7 and 9 now. PROS: The swimming instruction is top-notch. My younger daughter who couldn't swim AT ALL when she began, was swimming on her own after only 2 weeks. During the school year they go to the Y for swim classes, but this instruction was far superior and they made bigger leaps in shorter time in terms of skill. It's also relatively inexpensive. CONS: The administration is a little on the disorganized side and the room where they meet in the morning consists of picnic tables and old futons, which looks a bit like a worn out college dorm room. It's also extremely small. But all that aside, my kids always came back having really learned something and full of fun stories. read more

I've taken five adult learn to swim classes at Physique Swimming with a friend of mine. Each time, we've had a different instructor. I've had Paul, Toshi, and Ian. There's no real consistency. All their instructors teach differently, but the one that stood out the most was Manny. I am a woman and Manny made me feel extremely uncomfortable. He would ignore the other male classmates to 'swim with me'. He gave the other classmates things to do on their own and would stay by me 80% of the time. He didn't swim with any other students and gave me 'special' attention. I'm a little disheartened because Manny doesn't represent the majority of the instructors I've had at this place. I've never been so creeped out or felt so separated from my friend in any of the lessons... Honestly, I thought it was so disgusting and it made me feel very uncomfortable. I'm sorry to the other instructors, but I won't be coming back here after this experience. On a positive note, in Toshi and Ian's classes, I learned a lot about breathing and getting better technique. If you are signing up, I would recommend those two instructors. read more

This is a greedy business with terrible management. My experience is with Kevin their "manager". I tried to redeem an expired groupon which I paid $200 for 10 classes. Understandably, this was expired so I didn't expect to get the promotional value however the business is supposed to provide services for the amount you paid. After going back and forth with Kevin, he insisted it was absolutely reasonable to offer me ONE free swimming lesson for the $200 I paid for the Groupon OR shell out additional money for their 5 class package. I would have considered paying additional for their package if he was more respectful. Fortunately groupon refunded my money and I did end up taking lessons at swimurban where I learned how to freestyle in two lessons. I can't speak to their instructors, but I hope they are good enough to keep this company from sinking due to poor management. Pun intended). read more

I took adult beginner swim classes with physique swimming. The instructors are great, especially Paul. My first class was great as there were only two of us in the class. Since then, the classes have been too crowded. I get that the company is running a business and trying to make a profit, but having 7 people in one class, using one swimming lane, and having students with a wide range of experience and skill level makes it impossible to learn. The class is no longer really a class. We get a few instructions and practice on our own. It's not the instructors fault. The class can easily be split into 2. I emailed the person in charge of filling the classes, and unfortunately, I was told no changes would be made. One instructor can't teach 7 students in one lane especially when there are students who are swimming for the first time ever! It's not really fair to any one involved. Update: After I wrote this review, the class was split. There were 5 people in my last class which was much more manageable. I appreciate that the management listened, and responded. Also, all the instructors are all very good! read more

I was really excited about taking courses with Physique Swimming, based on the reviews and the affordable prices. Unfortunately, my experience was not as good as anticipated. I registered and paid for their beginner's course about five months in advance of their spring session. When I arrived at my chosen location, apparently no one else had registered for the course and the instructors were unprepared for my arrival. After a bit of a wait, they finally paired me with an instructor who was used to teaching a different group. Though nice, on my first day he was asking me to do things I likely should not have been doing as a very beginner (i.e., dive to the bottom of the pool for rings). At the end of the session, after some thought, I decided to change to a different location and move my courses to the fall, in hopes that there would be better preparation. Though I was not thrilled about the idea of swimming during cool weather (fall sessions end just before winter), I did not want to switch to summer since there were fewer lessons during that session. I also did not want to wait another year until the next spring. There were at least another five months between the time I made the switch and the start of my fall session. However, on the date of my first session in the fall, I arrived at the new location to find out that the pool was closed for renovation. Never once did I receive an e-mail or phone call from the swimming school to warn/inform me. After nearly a year of looking forward to swimming lessons, I decided Physique was not the school for me and I contacted them and asked for a refund. While the people I dealt with were pleasant, there was a lack of communication and general disorganization that one does not expect when paying money for a service, especially one that requires putting your safety in someone else's hands. At the end, it just seemed more worth it to save the extra money for a different school. read more

This 1-star review is coming from a client with Physique for four years. In four years, I've seen a lot of things change. Starting off, it was incredible. We came from Imagine Swimming, and we were so happy to finally get a swim school that actually cared. In the beginning, it was 3 students (max) to 1 instructor, and literally none of the issues below were present. Now, every new location, they send us, there are always issues. First, before you read on, purchase a KIDPASS from this school. I feel completely swindled as I've been paying a premium on my lessons, only to be told, by another parent (who has their child in the same class as mine), that she paid $5 for the SAME EXACT LESSON. Since then, I've been using KIDPASS to save literally 90% of my cost on these swim lessons. Overcrowding is incredibly real here. Get ready for your child to be hanging around by the wall, get cold, and just watching other kids for 20 min out of their 40 min lesson. A previous review mentioned 66th street and itching and showering a lot.. it is true. My son had suffered extreme rashes from that pool, he only did two lessons, and I pulled him out. Recently, one of the other moms told my wife that they called management. Management blamed the cancelled lessons on the staff and that they do not want to work. I just feel that is so unprofessional. You are lying to your clients, scapegoating your employees, and continue to keep operating in a pool that causes so many issues for everyone. As I mentioned, because of the chemical rashes in the 66th street pool, we decided to take my kids to another pool. I met a staff member named, Nyrii, who was incredibly rude. I have an itching suspicious this person is close to management because her behavior week after week goes unchecked. One time, I had a general question and when asked an instructor, they said "Oh, Nyrii can answer that?" "Okay thanks, where is she?" "Oh...she..left early". Just. Wow. Nyrii, hands off her own students whenever another instructor is free. She also has been overheard talking to her staff members rudely, as well as even talking about her nights out, who she's sleeping with, and even has used racial slurs, that frankly, made a lot of us feel uncomfortable. For me, this was the last straw. Did I mention all this was also heard by my children that I'm trying to help change? My kids should not be hearing this type of stuff in a learning environment..they're just supposed to learn swimming. So yes, a lot of issues, and the problem..I'm not sure! Management actually has not changed, but the way they handle things up there are certainly different from what used to be. At this point, we are going back to Imagine Swimming and even exploring other options around the city. If you're a prospective client, hit the back button and keep searching. If you're a new client, I feel sorry for you, but make sure you purchase a KIDSPASS! Vadim is the owner of the school and very professional and responsive. I communicate with him mostly via text and book my sessions easily. Physique does a ton of children classes and seem to be very popular with children of all ages and skills. He has classes for beginners as well as athletes training for competition. For children swimming any instructor will do for adult swimming I like Paul, Gregg and Ellis. They are pricey but worth every penny. read more

I've been a client with Physique for over four years and now it's time for a change. I started with a groupon and at one point, I liked Physique Swimming so much that I convinced myself to pay for lessons at a regular rate. Hell, I even convinced some of my colleague to sign their kids up. Now, I'm starting to look into other swim schools and I'm advising them to do the same. My previous review for this school was 5-stars because I was determined even with some flaws, that I would be able to have my children learn. This place is getting worse and worse and there's no outlook on getting better. For example, I experienced a shift where my son's instructor named Ian was yelling at the supervisor there named Meshanu in front of all the clients and parents. The parents and I thought that was so unprofessional, but I figured, fine, people can explode once in awhile. I took that thought back when my son told me that actually Ian is like that him as well. He will be snappy and nasty if you don't do what he wants..is this what an ideal swim instructor's attitude is like? I guess it didn't sit well because after a few weeks, Meshanu was gone. We had some named Nyrie instead and my god, how did they figure out this is a better replacement? This is where it gets really bad. We arrive at one of the Physique pool sites, 41 broad, and all we see are over 15 students waiting to get in the water and just ONE instructor. We asked if it was cancelled, but no, everyone just seems to have missed their train or wake up late. I've noticed the supervisor here, Nyrie, does this the most. At a certain point, the other parents and I feel like is intentional. I've often see Nyrie start with a student, then next week, the same student is handed off to another instructor, meanwhile, Nyrie eyes are glued to her mobile phone. Supervisors taking advantage of lower-level employees is a common thing. It didn't make me feel good and these interactions are very different from the Physique Swimming I first started with. Sadly, most of the great instructors that I mentioned in my last review no longer work here. If you purchased a Groupon and feel stuck with Physique, I advise you to take this review seriously. Make sure your child has an attentive, caring instructor. Ask who your instructor is. If they are Nyrie or Ian, ask for a switch. Skip out on 41 Broad Street site. I've done makeup lessons in 5 different other Physique pool sites. The difference is night and day. Although still not super organized, the staff at the other sites are much more thoughtful and attentive. Right now, I'm looking at Asphalt Green or Imagine Swimming. It seems pricier, but the quality of service here has really gone downhill. If you haven't purchased anything yet, I advise you to do the same. read more

I took two sessions with Physique, which was I think 20 classes. At my first lesson I had no swim experience at all but by the end of the first class I could float and kick. The class sizes are pretty small, the most people I've had on a day is four, but usually it was just one other person. The instructors are great, they work with you along your pace, it's kind of like having a coach. So rather than having a one size fits all method of teaching, you really do get individualized instruction even with other people in the class. Obviously it depends on how you learn and what your issues are with swimming, but by my last lesson we were doing laps (with flippers) to the deep end. They are more pricey than the Y but I don't think I would have made as much progress if I had started at the Y with more people in the class. read more

Apparently, they deleted my wife's review which I thought was against Yelp's policies. My wife left a 2-star review that provided details about the 66th street pool site. Our child received rashes from this pool and we had to finish the rest of our lessons in another pool site that was inconveniently further than we had planned. Overall, we wasted our time and won't be coming back. I don't plan on writing a long review as I don't even know if this will be deleted. If this reaches you, get a groupon/kidspass, you shouldn't pay full price for overcrowded swim classes. read more

I've been a client for 3 years and management has taken a big downturn. You used to call and the boss, Vadim, would pick up right away. Now, you have to call 4-5 times before you can talk to management which is Kevin or Vadim. Vadim is nice, but he is unprofessional. Kevin has been rude and snappy to me. If you ever see the instructor, Nyrie, call the office right away and re-schedule. Very unprofessional swim instructor. Do not take your concerns to her, she will ignore your requests to management. I ask to talk to Vadim instead and he's always on vacation. At this point, I don't know if he's avoiding me, but I'm taking my money elsewhere. read more

We have used Physique swim school over the years for our three children and I have to say they are truly wonderful. Although my oldest daughter is an advanced swimmer and has been on the Asphalt Green agua league, we have used many instructors at physique for semi private lessons to help work on refining her technique. She has worked with Greg, Anthony and Marquez and all are great. Most of all, the owner, Vadim is extremely accommodating, which to me is just as important as as the quality of their lessons. I take a 5 year old girl to swimming lessons, the instructors are great, professional, kind, lovely people! Unfortunate we went to Mercedes Club in Midtown, and we were told we can't use the locker room for shower and dry up. The weather isn't really warm yet and I have to take a little child with wet hair to the street, facing to catch a cold or worse. If Physique has a problem negotiating with Mercedes Health Club, why the little children get punished for that? It's outrageous! read more

Okay, okay, I might be jumping the gun here, I mean, I've only been to one lesson so far and that was this afternoon but I really like this school. First of all, there are many places that I've tried to contact before (not just swim schools, but martial arts schools, dance schools, etc.) and you'd be surprised how many businesses do not reply to emails! So I already liked this place when I emailed a few times and got prompt and helpful replies. Also, it's hard to find places that have classes on Sundays which is my only day off. I'm taking the classes at Hunter College which is my alma mater, so I'm comfortable with the location. Paul was great and very patient and encouraging. I am an adult beginner (as in, cannot swim at all). I already feel much more comfortable with swimming. And I expected the class to be much bigger but there was only 2 other people, so it's good that we can each get more personal attention. I look forward to my other 10 classes! read more
