The class is divided into beginner and more advanced groups, but even in the beginner group, I didn't receive enough attention. When other "beginners" progressed quickly, it was easy for me to fall behind. And when you are clearly struggling, there isn't enough guidance from the instructors, so you often end up just practicing on your own without much direction. The instructors are very friendly, but if you are like me--completely inexperienced or not comfortable in the water--I wouldn't really recommend this class.

If you had told me a year ago that I'd be floating in a pool -- willingly, happily, and without the…read moresecurity of solid ground beneath my feet -- I would've laughed... and maybe cried a little. I spent most of my life avoiding the deep end like it was filled with sharks. Water and I were not on speaking terms. Honestly, I would've preferred two back-to-back dentist appointments over a single swim class. Enter Swim Easy New York -- aka the miracle workers: Krystoff, Evelyn, and Isabela. These three absolute legends took an adult who used to treat puddles like potential death traps and taught me not just the basics, but how to tread water, how to stay calm without feeling the bottom, and -- wait for it -- how to jump off the edge of the pool into the deep end. Let me say that again: I JUMPED INTO THE DEEP END. On purpose. For someone who spent a lifetime cautiously stepping away from the edge and praying never to fall in, that moment was nothing short of a mental breakthrough. My heart was pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears... but I did it. And YEYYY ME. What sets Swim Easy apart isn't just the amazing instructors -- though they are truly amazing. Krystoff is basically the James Bond of swim teachers: calm, cool, and in total control. Evelyn is like your personal hype squad with the patience of a saint, and Isabela radiates so much warmth and encouragement that you feel like an Olympian just for showing up. But the structure of the program is what really makes it stand out. Unlike most places where you're locked into one class a week, Swim Easy lets you take as many classes as you want. I personally went with two a week to help reinforce what I was learning. It made a huge difference. They also offer a variety of time slots, including classes starting as late as 5 PM, until 7.15 pm which is perfect if you work a 9-to-5. And the best part? It's super affordable, especially for the level of personal attention and support you get -- and the caliber of instructors you're learning from. I've laughed, panicked a little, swallowed enough pool water to qualify as a human sponge -- but I've learned to swim. And more than that, I actually enjoy being in the water now. That's something I never thought I'd say in this lifetime. If you've been putting it off, telling yourself it's too scary or too late -- please, just go to one class. That's all it takes to see how different this place is. They'll teach you, encourage you, and help you do things you never imagined you could. They changed my life. I think they'll change yours too.

Ok guys, this is my scoop on this spot!…read more I'm upgrading my swimming lessons to one day be able to swim In the Ocean or Sea. I don't think you're a real swimmer if u can't swim in the Ocean. U know why? It's bc there are No rails to grab onto. Sink or Swim! Hahahaha. My goal! Lol. I think everyone can improve on their swimming skills. The staff is amazing, the swim instructors are Awesome . So, patient with us. Ohh u can also pay for private lessons too. It's very affordable! If it's 4u as an adult or kids give them a try. Lots of lockers, Large enough pool. I didn't feel rushed, by our instructor Sophie. She's thorough in her lessons. I still had fun. I recommend, Penguin City Swim.

And I'm terrible when it comes to learning how to do new athletic/physical things and even *I* learned to swim. (Now in my mid 50s.) If you're nervous, think you're too old, whatever else--please give it a try; you'll at least learn enough to be comfortable in the water, and the staff are really professional and the time I spent in the water for my lessons was actually really relaxing. Worth it. Give it a try, even if you never get to the point where you swim Olympic pool laps, you will feel competent in a pool and you will find enjoyment.

I greet everyone including the maintenance workers who bust their buttons mopping up hair! Recently after a long wait the women's locker area has been renovated. All I hear are complaints about this and that. I AM THRILLED THAT IT IS CLEAN AND WORKS. While I miss the sauna I still have a whirlpool. Recently they hosted a movie night and a Bar B Que/ Open swim. Again, nothing but bickering from negative people. I loved having beer with my popcorn and for free! I LOVED having a hamburger and chicken with fresh salad all for free after swimming. The staff worked really hard to pull off these two events. The Lifeguards were circling the pool constantly and show great care and compassion for an elderly man who is a regular and needs extra TLC. Stop complaining or leave! Life I too short and not perfect. Be patient. The rest of us appreciate the place very much Maybe some of you need to relax, I highly recommend the massage with Amy or Kristen.

I've been coming here since I moved into the city in July. Love the facility and the people…read more Community is great- they host regular events, members on Saturdays will get brunch and drinks afterwards at times which speaks to the genuine camaraderie we have. It's not just a few classes I come to a week to improve my fitness and strength, but I've made some friends here which I'm excited to keep in touch with. Coming back from an injury where I tore my hip labrum from powerlifting, I've been able to see the results of my recovery and improving strength. We use MINDBODY and SugarWOD to log our workouts and check the schedule each day. The coaches are all great, are very knowledgeable, and have the perfect balance of motivating you, but not so much so that you're going to hurt yourself (Ex: Steph telling me to increase my weights after seeing my breeze through the workout). They watch your form and tell you to scale down if the form needs work. Ryan also runs a lifting program which is extremely legit complete with an excel spreadsheet where he planned out each workout to optimize your strength improvement for CrossFit in addition to adding isolation exercises that can target muscle groups that might not be as commonly used during CrossFit workout. Definitely a great addition for people who love to lift. The manager, Colin and all the front desk staff, they're very responsive on the phone and will answer all your questions for memberships. If you're going on vacation, they'll pause your membership without the hassle that comes with being a part of larger gyms (like when you thought you paused your membership but ended up getting charged several months over the summer). Customer service couldn't be better, no complaints. If you're thinking of joining up, be sure to ask about a hospital Mount Sinai discount or a student discount if you're a broke graduate student or resident. Definitely worth the investment to my health and well-being!

Saw a free class on Instagram and was curious about CrossFit. Great introductory class, amazing…read morespace and community, and shout out to Alex Miller making the class so enjoyable! The intro class was very informative but also a lot of fun. Crossfit has always been intimidating to me because of all the heavy-weight lifting. Alex was able to not only explain through his own journey with CrossFit but kept it easy to understand. I learned that CrossFit is actually an individual challenge for yourself to not only perfect your techniques but push limits you didn't know you could. That is what captivated me. The class begins with a series of warm-ups and stretches. Alex stresses the importance of form to avoid injury. He gradually transitions into your every-day exercises such as squats and then introduces a PVC stick to mimic the barbells. We did use a barbell with weights for the last set. I finally learned how to do a proper deadlift with a barbell. Alex offered plenty of direction and adjustments, which is great for someone who is starting to get into weight training. For the last 15 minutes of class, he set circuit challenges that incorporate the moves we learned. EVF shares the space with RowHouse. Rowhouse is located on the first floor and EVF gym is located on the basement level. The basement level was big enough for two classes to be happening at the same time. My only complaint would be that there are only two bathrooms for both studios (both gender neutral and have showers in them). I believe they strategically schedule the classes in order to avoid both studios end class at the same time and create chaos. All in all, I would love to come back to attend an EVF 360 class and maybe another CrossFit class with Alex!
