As Queen Anne struggles to cope with increasing crime and changing demographics, this local newspaper does a fine job of helping residents become more aware. For instance, the police blotter the January 27, 2016 contains the following (excerpted): * At 12:04 a.m. on Jan. 10, police responded to Kerry Park in the 400 block of West Highland Drive for a report of a robbery. * "One victim told police she and her friends had been at the park taking pictures with her camera. When they returned to their vehicle, she realized she left her camera on a park bench. She returned to the park and saw a group of three young women and a man holding a camera that was identical to hers. She asked them if they found the camera in the park, and they said that it was their camera. She went back to the bus and told her friends about this. Her friends accompanied her back to the group and asked them again if they'd found the camera. The group became defensive and started attacking the victim. They pushed her down on the ground and kicked and punched her. As her friends stepped in to help her, they were pulled down and punched and kicked, as well." This crime occurred one day after a police shoot out, again at Kerry Park, with a man wielding a knife suspected in a robbery and had dozens of people running away in all directions. http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/crime/seattle-police-report-officer-involved-shooting-near-queen-annes-kerry-park/ Seattleites are so great at denial. Residents of the neighborhood would not know there was any crime, other than by word-of-mouth in their immediate vicinity, without the police blotter. Thank you, QA/Magnolia News, for being relevant and bringing the community news that the other media will not cover. If you want a largely irrelevant, irreverent local rag, read The Stranger. Their reporters seem to think that the police are not often put in dangerous situations where they could lose their lives, which is frankly ridiculous. But, yeah, Stranger, find us out there police that aren't putting their lives on the line every day and who can afford to give the benefit of the doubt to someone belligerent who they have reason to believe has a lethal weapon and will use it in a split second.
