Here's my philosophy: There aren't many special events in life that call for a great, professional photographer to help capture those rare moments (in my case, a wedding) and because of this reality, I found it to be of the utmost importance to find the perfect one. I had gone through list after list of Seattle based wedding photographers, and when I was fortunate enough to stumble across Photo Elan, I immediately fell in love. It was a match made in heaven; I instinctively felt drawn to their amazing portfolio! Overall, my husband and I had a positive experience with Brian of Photo Elan. We booked him for our wedding and he captured several wonderful shots which I can't wait to frame and put into an album That being said, there are a few things that we were less than thrilled with including the following: 1. He didn't pay close enough attention to my wedding photo checklist and missed a few significant shots. We discussed my timeline in great depth beforehand and I sent him a copy days before the wedding. However, he didn't print out a copy and the one back-up I gave his assistant was not used either. He had the checklist sent to himself in a text message, but this made it difficult for him to check everything off and audit his work. For example, there is not a complete family photo of my immediate family and me. There is one with my family and my brother in law, but my now-husband is not in the photo. 2. There were a couple of times during my wedding when he was nowhere to be found. For example, when we were ready to do the shoe game, we had to delay by about ten minutes because my venue staff could not find him or his assistant. 3. He did not stay until the end of the evening. Toward the end of the night, there were many shots that he missed, but were thankfully captured on peoples' i-phones. 4. I was unhappy with his photography assistant's behavior. When she lost her car keys, she made finding her keys her number one priority and stopped taking photos. Moreover, she confronted and interrupted my two co-officiants when they were preparing to go on and officiate our ceremony. They gave me this feedback later. I know she was concerned, but this behavior was unprofessional. I did share the above-mentioned feedback with Brian and he acknowledged his mistakes, and apologized. He welcomed the feedback and will hopefully take it all to heart with his future clients. read more

I've never yelped about anything before and feel compelled to rave about photo elan. Being the groom, I had nothing to do with the hiring or details, all I did was show up at the arboretum in Seattle, and everything was perfect from there. Working with Brian was like working with a friend. He easily built a rapport with not only me, but my whole family. I've spent somt time in front of the camera and it can get awkward and nervous. Brian has the knack to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. The pictures he took are some of the best I've ever seen. If you want the average engagement photos, you have your choice of any photographer you want. But, if you want photographs that really capture the natural movement, relationship, scene, and feeling of the moment in gorgeous photos, you'll want to pick Photo Elan like we did for our Seattle Engagement Photography. My fiance and I were headed to Seattle for a week-long vacation, and I thought it would be a great chance to have our engagement photos taken in an environment different than our snoozy scene on the east coast. Photo Elan had great reviews and after checking out their website gallery, I knew they were just what I was looking for. I reached out and Brian's amazing customer service helped us to book a shoot and package during our vacation. I should preface the rest of this review with the fact that I'm fine and comfortable being photographed, but my fiance rarely has the patience or enough smiles to last an entire shoot. I knew this type of shoot was necessary before our wedding to avoid a disasterous gallery of awkward groom on wedding day. Initially Brian recommended Alki beach as a starting point for photos, and I countered with something with more flowers and nature, as we tend to look washed out and sickly in grey weather on a beach. I also mentioned some photos on their site that i really loved, to give Brian an idea of the types of photos I was looking for. He understood and recommended the Aborteum, which was a great idea. So on the day of our shoot, we met Brian, who was just as easy going and friendly as he seemed via email. He gave us an idea of how the process works and how we could best assist with the flow and photographs, and I added in Brendan's low tolerance for photo shoots, which Brian kindly understood. After about 45 minutes and 7 different shoot spots, we wrapped up, and headed home. A week later, Brian emailed us our gallery. Of course, there were a number of a awkward photos as expected, but there were also a number of phenomenal ones that we absolutely LOVE. Only a very skilled photographer who knows how every single detail about the subject and setting and how much the camera angle/focus/lens matters could have taken such fabulous pictures. They are gorgeous and exactly what we were looking for. I am over the moon pleased. Photo Elan is worth every penny. If you're considering spending a few bucks less for a cheaper photographer, don't do it. These are photos you'll want to keep and look back on as some of the best photos you've ever taken of you and your loved one, and you will not regret it. I'm certain of it. My wife and I just had our first child, and PhotoElan did our pregnancy photos before the birth (http://photoelan.com/blog/2010/03/23/trevor-amanda-lily/), and newborn photos (http://photoelan.com/blog/2010/05/06/lily-1-week-2-days-old/) when our baby was 9 days old. The photos were artfully composed, technically brilliant and absolutely stunning! See for yourself. The normal awkwardness when working with a photographer completely goes away. We have worked with Brian twice now and both experiences took joyful hours and made them still more joyful. He was there when the action was there and out of the way with perfect grace when that needed to happen. We think the photos are gorgeous and we received compliments all around on them. He was also easy to work with both leading up to and during the event. Our party required some nimble re-arrangement to get some of the photos and he was right on top of it with competence and a good sense of humor in the chaos. Oh so brilliant and phenomenal! To me, Photo Elan offers quality that is many worlds apart compared to many other average photographers whom I have come across. Photo Elan is a hidden gem and one of the best kept secrets. Brian and Jennifer are one of the best wedding photographers in the Northwest. They took outstanding photos of my engagement and wedding. My husband and I were extremely pleased with the final products. I feel that their images have the quality and style that are ahead of time compared to many other wedding photographers out there. To me, many of their photos often convey a sweet meaning and I like this. I do not like photographers to just take random pictures to fulfill a quota. The photos show that they put a lot of thought into the process. I believe Brian and Jennifer have raised the bar as to what to expect from professional wedding photographers. They are forward-thinkers and ahead of the game. I had interviewed many countless photographers. They all appeared to have a repetitive and similar style, except for Photo Elan. I was impressed when I met with Brian and Jennifer at their house to look over their portfolio. I thought the pictures I saw in person with them were far more better than the photos on their website and on Yelp. Their photos were not only exceptionally beautiful and breathtaking, Brian and Jennifer also appeared to have a very unique, elegant and refined style in photography. Brian did my engagement photo shoot. He was fun and pleasant to work with. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised as to how polite and friendly he was. Brian made the process so easy and stress-free. Initially, I was a little camera shy. After 5 minutes, I was at ease and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire photo shoot. Brian knew all the best angles to capture. He could make you look amazing even if you blinked or closed your eyes. He could make you look flattering even if the wind blew your hair in all directions. He could make you look stunning even if you wore T-shirt and jeans. When we got our photos back, my husband and I were blown away as to how the photos turned out. They were exceedingly stunning, beautiful and unique. Brian and Jennifer did our wedding photography. The quality turned out to be just as impressive or even more so on many of the images. Brian and Jennifer captured so many heartfelt moments and made them so beautiful. They were so polite, discreet and unintrusive. My husband and I barely noticed their presence half of the times during the wedding. Interacting with them was one of the many best moments during our wedding. At first, my husband didn't care for so many beautiful photos until the wedding quickly went by. After that, he told me he was so glad that Photo Elan was there for the numer of hours I paid them for. Because of them, we were able to have so many beautiful photos to reminisce of our wedding. After the wedding was over and everything got put away, these photos were all that we had left of our wedding. The photos brought us back to those beautiful and happy memories of our wedding every time we looked at them. We were extremely glad that we had chosen Photo Elan. We had a small civil ceremony at the Municipal Courthouse ahead of our big destination wedding in New Zealand. I was so busy planning for our trip that I didnt even think about getting a photographer for the civil ceremony until two weeks before. I put out a bunch of queries and Photo Elan had the best price and was available on short notice. Brian was a true professional and took great photos. Not only does Photo Elan provide wedding photography, they also offer excellent classes on digital photography. My husband and I bought a Living Social deal for a Basic Digital Photography class and took it together last month. We had just purchased a new camera and didn't have the time to sift through books and websites to figure out how to get the most from our new toy. Brian led the class (which began a few days ahead with a quick bit of homework - SO nice, because it kept everyone from having to wait while he ran around helping people find the basic functions on their personal camera). We both found the class to be very informative. Brian is funny, engaging, and explains things very clearly. He provides excellent examples, and the class included time to go try out the skills we were learning. We are already taking MUCH better photos - it's so easy! I'm tempted to sign either my husband or myself up for the intermediate course next. Definitely a great value, even without a Living Social or Groupon deal.
