On opening day, the traditional pho (noodles, beef, and fresh vegetables in a delicious broth) was outstanding! Exactly what I had been missing in town. Service was good, though perhaps they were pleasantly surprised by a full house, and still figuring out how to work the large room. They can seat about 36, I think, in tables for 2 that can be pushed together. It was too cold for outdoor seating, but the sidewalk patio will probably seat another 8-12 when the weather is nice.
Unfortunately, I only had room to try one appetizer, a Cantonese-style shrimp har gow, served in a bamboo steam basket, which was as good as any of the places serving dim sum in Frankfurt.
But go for the Vietnamese specialties, authentically prepared, and not watered down for German tastes. You'll have to add chili or other sauces to your own taste, but they are automatically brought to the table when you order a dish that usually wants them.
Pricing was good, especially considering the large portions. A bowl of pho with beef for under EUR10, and many appetizers for EUR3-3,50. Full bar menu with cocktails, as they expect to do a good cafe/bar business, too. With comfortable chairs, I can see this place becoming a popular evening hangout if they turn up the music after dinner hours. There wasn't any music playing when I was there, and the noise levels were fine. Even with a full house, you can still carry on a quiet conversation with your dinner partner.
I'm going back soon to try more dishes this is the kind of place where I could happily become a regular guest. read more
