The Phoenix trail is a 1.2 mile rail trail (former railway turned into multipurpose trail) in College Park. It is paved with concrete and is lined in the middle; a standard trail of this type. Most people would agree that it is not long enough to bicycle on (1.2 miles is not really long enough to get up to speed!) but it is an ideal running or walking path. Its climbs are very gradual, though it really does not have much elevation change. It is great for practicing a 5K run. It is fantastic for hotel visitors in particular, because not only does it provide a good exercise option, but it also crosses under Interstate 85 through the old rail tunnel, opening up the opposite side of the interstate to pedestrians. The only problem I can see is that it is very difficult to park there without running afoul of a local business, because you're taking up their parking space! read more
