After witnessing an SUV at the DeWitt Wegmans with a dog locked inside in 70° weather with the sun…read morebeating down, I called 911 and a female officer responded. She said the dog "didn't seem to be distressed" and said I needed to leave. She stated she would stay and talk to the owner. She was dismissive and I didn't like her attitude, because a hot car can get flaming hot in a short span of time. I emailed the DeWitt police department and filed a complaint. Fast forward a few days, a DeWitt officer called me. He had received my email and still asked me what happened. So, I told him. I added the female officer who responded was flippant about the whole situation and likely didn't stay to observe the dog and talk with the owner. He asked how I would have liked her to handle the situation, and I told him she should have gone into Wegmans and had them make another announcement and also waited for the owner to educate that person. He then confirmed what I already suspected. The officer left the scene without talking to the owner, after telling me to leave, when I wanted to stay and monitor the dog. He said she got called to a medical emergency and that was more of a priority. Say what? Aren't MEDICS supposed to respond to a MEDICAL emergency? He told me if I had any more concerns, to call or email. I said, "Not that will do me a lot of good," and hung up on him. You can bet if that was a baby or child left in a hot car, more would have been done. PATHETIC!

2/9/26 - AM - I would like to start by saying thank you so much to Officer Thompson with the…read moreFairport Police Department who helped me when my car was 3/4 in the road on Turk Hill and 1/4 in my daughter's driveway. With so much traffic at the intersection of Turk Hill and Whitney Rd and almost getting hit a couple times, Officer Thompson put his car behind mine so I wouldn't get hit. Despite, him getting almost hit as well and the drivers not stopping when told too, he stayed there until the tow truck got there. Finally, after 2 1/2 hours, I was on my way to work. Just some advice for drivers, slow down when there are situations like this one. No job is worth your life or someone else's life. Again, thank you Officer Thompson. Sherry
