The fan over our shower was bad and we never saw any results so we got a top of the line Veent fan and the installation was pretty intense with a need to cut some additional space in the roof. When Kate came in she gave us a fair estimate and she came the day we had set up letting us know she was on her way and couldnt have been more pleasant to work with. There was no doubt she cared about her work and our satisfaction- always checking with us after was done with a "hows it look"? It was nice having someone so upbeat and positive and she did a professional wonderful job. It was a few hours for her with shower fan installation the bulk of her time and required some extra work but it looks great and works perfectly. She has alot of pride in her work and it shows as she herself was very satisfied with the end result. The outside security light and motion detector also required some extra time but she was able to get it done just in time before a wind/rain storm came with the help of a couple assistants who arrived with the large required ladder. Yes we also feel the cost for her services was more than fair and she even gave us a break/discount for adding another outside light onto her original estimate. We highly recommend Affordable Electric also because they were the ones who replied to our initial call when a couple others didnt even have the courtesy to return calls. We are glad they did!

I am so, so disappointed to have to write this review. I really hate this. But if I could go back…read morein time, I would never hire Home Hardware to renovate my kitchen. When the renovation was "finished", there were 1/4-inch gaps in the mitred baseboard seams; visible marks on the painted walls; and crumbled tile grout. The pull-outs beneath the kitchen sink banged against the cupboard doors below. After complaining again and again (and being told I was "fussy"), my kitchen still has a chip on one door, a crack in the crown moulding and crumbling grout in the tile floor. Here's what went down: To begin with, the kitchen designer, Asif, drew up a great design. He listened when I wanted changes to suit my lifestyle. He answered my questions and helped me choose materials. Strike one: To address the cold tile floor, the contractor suggested that I get spray foam insulation installed through a company he knew. He arranged the job, and recommended that I vacate my home while the insulation off-gassed. During that time, he lost my house-key. He called a locksmith and, unbeknownst to me, kept a key for his crew, too. When that contractor went on vacation, his sons continued to work. They used "their" key to let themselves in my house each morning --- long after I had returned to stay home again (and had told them so). They would not even ring the doorbell. I knew that they would be arriving each day, but it was still unsettling to have them just unlock the door and walk in. One afternoon, after they'd left for the day, I went upstairs to change my clothes. I was standing in the loft with no pants on, when I heard the key turn in the door lock downstairs, and one of the contractors called out, "It's just me! I left my coat! I'll lock the door behind me!" The next morning, I asked for "their" key. Strike two: The contractors heated their lunches in my not-yet-installed microwave. The first day it was installed over my stove, I had the pleasure of cleaning out the dried-up spatters from their lunches. Still, at the end of the day, I can overlook a few issues if the work is done well. Unfortunately this wasn't the case. The seams of the crown molding looked "rubbed" or "worn", which they tried to cover with a waxy touch-up marker, but it showed; the gaps in the mitered baseboards were 1/4-inch wide - filled with caulking (but that doesn't work to fill such large gaps); the light rail was chipped and poorly patched; and the undersink pull-outs fell and chipped the cupboard door below. Twice I expressed my disappointment to the contractor. The first time, he responded that "some people are fussier than others"; then he said that if I were going to expect a better job, I should have "paid more like $40,000". (He later apologized via text.) That was strike three. Apology aside, neither of those responses to a customer complaint is acceptable. I do not accept the blame for someone else's poor workmanship. The contractor returned a few times to correct badly mitred baseboards and to touch up paint. It looked terrible, with brush marks on the walls and baseboard paint spilling onto the wall. After I forwarded a draft of this review to the Home Hardware kitchen designer, the store owner met with me and the designer, and they sent out someone to fix the crumbled grout and poor paint job. They adjusted the under-sink pull-outs. I will say that the one thing the contractors did well was tile backsplash: it looks great. The electrician's work was also excellent, and the installers for the granite countertop were good. I'm also happy with the fixtures - nice countertop, good floor tile, decent cupboards - but upon completion, much of the workmanship was sorely inadequate. But it's still not finished. When someone came to change the scratched cupboard handles, he chipped the cupboard door. Now the crown molding is cracking at the seam. The grout in the floor tile is crumbling again. These are little things, but it's been 9 months and I still have to call and complain or they won't get fixed. I hired another contractor to renovate my bathroom and didn't have any such problems. He even used the left-over grout from the kitchen job to tile the bathroom floor, and it's not crumbling the way the kitchen grout does. I would NOT recommend the Appleby Home Hardware in Burlington for a renovation project, particularly a kitchen.

Hired The Door Centre to install a double door and massive window above it about 15 years ago. Did a fantastic job with a quality product that was reasonably priced. Fast forward 15 years, and one of the latches on the double door broke. Contacted The Door Centre and spoke with Rick. He got me a replacement part quickly and gave it free of charge. It's not the "free" that impressed me, it's the authentic appreciation for their clients!

They were glad to take my money, however the post sales experience was terrible. 2 major problems. First, upon door order I was quoted a 2 week delivery time however doors did not arrive until 5 weeks. No real responsibility taken other then to pass the blame to the door manufacture. Secondly, when the doors arrived, the frame they supplied did not fit into my roughed in opening. The frame width was 58.25 inches however they told me upfront to rough in a 58 inch opening as I ordered 2 26 inch French doors. This wouldn't have been a big deal if the doors had arrived on time as I was still at the framing stage however since they were 3 weeks late I had already finished the drywall, mudding and painting as I could not hold up the project for the late doors. When I called them to discuss it, Rick ( I think that was his name) took zero responsibility for the problem and essentially told me 'tough luck'. When I pushed it further and told him that I had built the framing to EXACTLY their dimensions, Rick told me it was my fault for not giving extra space and that if I wanted to avoid this problem I should have hired a contractor to do the work. I suggested to him that he send someone down to fix up the problem but he would not do that and said he would not spend any money to fix this problem. When I suggested he take the doors back and order smaller doors that would fit he said he would not do that because he would be stuck with the doors and out of pocket. The call ended with me telling him that I was going to post my experience to the internet so all could read it and he then threatened to sue me if I did. I would not suggest doing business with this company. I had planned to buy and have them install a very nice extra wide front doorway and glass in the spring (probably $6K) but obviously that wont happen now. In retrospect I assume that they probably didn't account for the 1/2 inch wooden divider between the 2 french doors (not sure what its called) when they gave me the sizes to frame in. Sounds like something pretty straight forward for someone in the door and window industry. To fix my problem I needed to rip the drywall down and cut out the stud on the one side of the doorway and move it over, re-drywall, remud and repaint. Ugh.
