During this time he's stabilized my blood pressure and I haven't had any hypoglycemic episodes, something I had previously resigned myself to having for the rest of my life despite a lot of attempts by other internists and cardiologists to control it.. My blood sugar is under control with his recommendations as well. Dr Bhakta is always available for an appointment when needed, and very responsive to calls. He's very thorough and professional, and has a nice sense of humor. He gives me his complete attention, doesn't lecture me, talk down to me or ramble on, and doesn't rush me or waste my time. Even his staff is friendly and efficient. My husband, who was against the idea of having a concierge doctor, decided to give him a try because of my experience, and so far he's happy with him as well. I feel Dr Bhakta is a partner in looking after our health.

For this telephone consultation I paid $175.00 by credit card in advance over the phone at 2:00 p.m. Jessica was scheduled to call me at 2:15 p.m. By 3:00 p.m. I had not received a call. I called the office to determine what the delay was. I had waited for Jessica for 45 minutes or more in the past at in-office appointments so I had assumed that she was held up with another patient and would call me after.) When I reached the office I was told that she had been trying to reach me during the 45 minutes and I had not answered. I told them that I had been sitting, waiting with my phone in hand. They found that they had written my cell phone number down incorrectly in their records and had been calling a wrong number. They then told me that the next available appointment I would be able to have would be in August, a full six weeks out in the future. Since I was available for the consultation and they were not able to reach me due to an error in their records, I asked them to credit my visa card for the $175.00 charge. They refused! They indicated that I should have called the office to inquire why they hadn't called earlier than 45 minutes and intimated that it was somehow my fault that the consultation didn't go through. They said they would hold my money as a credit to my next appointment in August. This meant that I would have paid out money 6 weeks in advance of any services rendered. This didn't make any sense to me, since I wasn't at fault for the consultation not going forward and I hadn't received anything for the $175.00 I paid out. When I expressed my need to have that refund put through, they again refused. Needless to say, I have severed my relationship with this office. I would not recommend this office to anyone.

He or she is usually your first contact for most medical problems and holds the key that unlocks the door to other resources in the area. My wife and I were lucky to have a great group of doctors during the 38 years we lived in the San Jose area. When we moved to Nipomo in April 2018, we found a good replacement in Santa Maria, but he chose not to see his patients in-person once the coronavirus hit. After a year of not being able to meet with a doctor or nurse...something with added importance after age 65...we decided to find someone else. Dr. Mary Romero and the Ventana Health Center were recommended to us by several people in our neighborhood so we each made appointments. We're glad we did. - Location: Excellent. About 5 blocks east of Highway 101 in a fairly new building along Oak Park Blvd. Easily accessible from our town, Nipomo, to the south and not far from San Luis Obispo to the north. - Front Desk People: Busy but friendly. There's a lot going on in this office, but the women we've seen managed the work while maintaining a smile. Not a simple task. - Scheduling: So far so good. We've scheduled 4 appointments...each one with a Front Desk person after meeting with the doctor. We get online reminders about a week in advance. - Waiting Area: Okay. It's clean and uncluttered, but relatively small for the number of patients...especially with socially distanced seating due to Covid. - Medical Assistant: Fine. I've waited less than 10 minutes to be taken to an examining room for each of my 2 appointments. The assistant (same one) was friendly and knew what she was doing. - Dr. Romero: Great. Our introductory appointments were 30 minutes apiece and covered all the usual topics. Follow-up was 15 minutes. Since her group is part of Dignity Health which had our records since moving to the Central Coast almost 3 years ago, reviewing information was easy. Dr. Romero is very knowledgeable and seemed to relate quite well to the issues mentioned by both myself (2 visits) and my wife (one visit). Neither one of us felt rushed and, in fact, Dr. Romero made sure nothing was left on the table by asking "do you have any more questions" and "is there anything else I can help you with" a few times. I needed a referral to a local surgeon for a hernia and received a call from the surgeon's office (with a choice of 5 doctors) 2 days later after they verified my insurance. - Billing: No problem so far. We switched from private insurance - Aetna - in 2020 to Medicare and Anthem supplemental insurance in 2021. - Parking: Sufficient. There's good parking around each side of the building. The Ventana Health Center has a few doctors and our only experience has been with Dr. Romero, but from our first 3 visits we're glad we found her.

She hurriedly scribbled more notes on a handout about other "recommendations" for the area that we were traveling to that I still can't read and then tried to sell us a bag of bug spray for $75.00 that I purchased on Amazon for $20.00. She then informed us that if we didn't make up our minds about the immunizations before two weeks was up, and decided we wanted them afterall, she'd charge us another $75.00 each for another "consultation". I'll never go back and I am spreading the word to friends and family alike that this place is a total sham.
