We've been having a craving for some good pho. The name sounded legit, so we decided to check this place out.
Pho Saigon sits on the Neckar river just outside of the nice little town Nurtingen. The restaurant, is very nice and the owners/staff are very friendly. If you can snag a seat in the back, you can get a very nice view of the town and the river.
The owners are Vietnamese, so I figured that the food would be delicous. We ordered spring rolls to start and I have to say they were delicious, so we were very excited to try the pho. Much to my dissapointment, the Pho was rather bland, and was only served with thick Udon noodles and the vietnamese style meatballs. No vegetable garnish, no beef, lemon instead of lime. The broth was definitely Pho, but watered down.
I would imagine the food they eat at home vs what they serve is completely different. In their defence, I believe they took alot of the flavor out of their food to please to local populous. Most traditional ethnic restaurants in Germany (excluding Thai and Indian) are very bland and have alot of the flavor and spices taken out of it.
This place wasn't horrible, it was "ok". If you are looking for great Pho, this is not the place to go and I highly doubt you will find great Pho anywhere around this area... possibly Germany at all. read more
