Newish springvale eatery that specialises in local dishes from Hue Vietnam. I've had a lot of viet…read morefood and thought I knew it all. I guess not!!! It took me time to go over the menu as I had never heard of some of the things / variations offered. I guess it is the regions take on some of the popular Viet dishes... There is a section on the menu for Kitchen's Specialisation... As I was going through this, the owner who looked like a reformed viet gangster came across and started talking to us. Nice guy.. :) Went for #137 (Bánh t), #5 (Banh Loc) .. and the broken rice on a hot plate. cus the dude suggested it. I told him that there is no where in Springvale that serves good Com Tam anymore.. and asked whats so special about his broken rice... he said try it... you wont regret. serving it on a sizzling plate tastes better he says... I couldnt agree more. The sizzling plate also makes the broken rice a bit harder at the bottom, almost like a claypot. Which was an interesting twist. The Pork.. I haven't had this good in a while. Not the best I have had as it still lacked the flame grilled flavour. But great all the same. Banh Loc - I've not tried this before... very similar to most of the "banh" style dishes but wrapped in banana leaf and not heavy. Banh Uot - is very similar to the normal banh cuon (translucent rice noodle rolls) that I am used to however this variety... the "uot" (opaque rice noodle rolls) which means wet banh uses a thicker noodle sheet as wrapper and the filler used was small amounts of pork. I think marinated grilled pork.. the 'cuon' uses those ear mushroom / fungus thingies. and the pork is finer. Arrrggg .. Anyway... bottom line... its frekn YUM! just go try it! :) and no I dont have shares there and the reformed gangster owner has not threatened my family or anything!! PS: the observation of the dude is in jest only! please dont track me down. :)

Jan 2019 Current comments are based on 3 separate visits…read more.. most recent today.. soup base is crazy salty and high in msg!! Noodles served are in small pieces!! Need a spoon. The side herbs given is a joke!! I small branch each person!! Am on to my second litre of water!! One year ago... this place seems to be getting a cult following. Pho is decent here and the table turnover is high so don't be put off by the crowd of people waiting out front. It only seats ~25 I'd say. Tiny space. So expect to be sharing tables during lunch rush. Broth tastes great. They pride themselves on supposed "no msg"??? Hard to believe but yeah I guess I wasn't thirsty afterwards. Soup is piping hot and full of flavour. Not high in aniseed. There's nothing I don't like here except for a lot of elbows touching.

A tiny place, not the best for a big group, but they definitely serve up a good bowl of pho!…read more Service is quick and people are in and out fast so the wait went pretty quickly (5-10 min), I came with a group of about 12 and we ended up getting split into about 3 tables. The menu on the walls is not in English, but I got a "small" bowl of the beef brisket pho. The amall bowl is actually pretty filling, I can't imagine what the large is like. Tender beef and plenty of rice noodles swimming in a bowl of the best pho broth I have ever had. Very savory, flavorful, and tasty, I can see how people eat this stuff so quickly. It's served with basil and bean sprouts and can be flavored further with chili sauce or chili oil or one of the other condiments they have on the table. They also serve it with a thermos of hot tea which was good for washing it down. By the time we finished eating there was a larger crowd waiting by the door, staring at us while we ate... You may be asked to share a table as it gets packed. Definitely a great place to stop by for a quick and delicious bowl of pho!

The restaurant isn't fancy looking, with signs hand written on all sizes of paper, a/c unit above the front entrance and picnic plastic tables on the inside. People don't seem to care. This place used to be located in Glen Waverley but after hearing a horror story I never went. The move seems to have revitalized the quality and flavour. They do lunch specials and last time I went I was surprised to find a lamington, small tart and blood oranges in my take away bag. I went again yesterday and the place was packed, we decided to sit outside in the cold and wait for a spot. Since it was so busy, we were forgotten outside so I had to go in and order, but honestly I don't expect 5 star service on a busy saturday lunch hour from 2 serving staff. We ordered: combination pad thai, combination spring rolls (half prawn, half pork), double pork chop with rice and my all time favourite salt and pepper tofu! For a huge meal with a box of leftovers, we spent $42 which we thought was very reasonable, the only thing I would change about this place would be for consistent service and better table placement. By the way, you can call up first to order which seems to be the trick as there are very limited spots to sit.
