XL Soupe
Fei M.

4/5 Easily. Taste: very close to the best. Broth is hot. Meats get cooked easily after you mixed everything. I like the hot broth. I feel more the flavour. Price: very reasonable price. XL soup is only $9. With a side dish, you can't go above $15 before tax. Quantity: XL is enough for a hungry hungry person like me :D even not a lot of meats. But for then price. It's a good portion. Why not 5/5. The flavour is just not there. I'd give 4.5/5 because they have all the sides and sauces. You don't find them in most of the Pho place.

Spring Roll

Cozy pho spot in Saint-Laurent! The owners are very sweet, and the food is pretty good. I usually come here for their pho or vermicelli dishes and imperial rolls, which are quite delicious! The pho broth is sweeter than most places, but still tastes good. Their imperial and spring rolls are also pretty good, and decent sized. Overall, the portions are decent and the price is very affordable! Located about 5mins away from the metro, street parking and delivery/pick-up service are also available! Decent food, great prices and great service - a great spot for casual dinner/lunch with friends, family or a date.

On my quest to experience more Vietnamese restaurants I had searched places in the Decarie N area near Cote Vertu and this place came up. For me Vietnamese is comfort food. It represents a fresh filling meal of a mix of meat, noodles and vegetables. All flavours dynamic, complimenting one another but mixing in your bowl to give your taste buds a tantalizing wake up. Entering Pho Moderne I'd say the restaurant is appropriately as the name suggests. It's modern, clean and tastefully decorated on the inside. The menu offered an array of your typical Vietnamese offerings: appetizers, pho, rice dishes, bun noodle dishes, drinks and desserts. All with a good selection and pricing is your typical very inexpensive for Vietnamese restos. I ordered the chicken bun noodles with a spring roll. It was served very hearty in a bowl with peanut, salad, nuoc mam and a generous serving of grilled chicken. On a scale of 1-10 it was a solid 8. With this I ordered some spring rolls as well to share with my dinner mate. They were crispy fresh and a slight bit of oil on the wrappers. Not greasy but not dry. All in all a solid meal and definitely worth a return based on experience, price and quality. There are a good amount of Asian restaurants in this Neighbourhood of Decarie N but I'd contend Pho Moderne is a good choice if you want authentic Viet food.

Orange beef

Let's start with the positives, the lunch menu is affordable with regular menu items not being very expensive as well. The service was friendly and efficient and the wait to get our food was surprisingly mere minutes (less than 5). Cheap and fast. Now the negatives. I ordered the orange beef and what I received did not taste anything like orange beef. The beef looked weird and there was way too much tasteless sauce. While eating I felt that this meal may have been pre-cooked or simply reheated. The tiny roll I got was absolutely tasteless and wasn't given some sauce to accompany it, a first for me. The rice ball and veggies were decent, pre-heated or not. So I ate that and left half my beef in my plate. I didn't feel Pho Moderne's lunch menu was anywhere close to authentic Vietnamese cuisine and while I didn't order a Pho or more traditional Vietnamese meal, this didn't meet my expectations. With the handful of Vietnamese places around the area, this could have been better. Should have been better.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised by how good the pho broth was. I was skeptical when I first entered the restaurant because all I heard was Chinese; from the karaoke music video they had to the staff members' conversations amongst one another. I was thinking this cannot be authentic. Did they change owners? I'm glad to have tried their pho anyway. The small was the perfect size for me. The servers were really nice and one of them even checked on how my food was after my first couple of bites. I told her it was good. I love my pho to be piping hot, which it was. Where they lost the star was the fact I only received 1/2 a beef ball, there wasn't much tendon and there was absolutely no tripe (which I did not find out till I had finished my pho). I thought it was because they may have been lost in the amount of noodles so didn't want to bring it up and once I had finished the soup, I thought it would be silly to bring it up then. As for thw beef ball thing...I know I ordered a small bowl, but judging by the 1/2 beed ball I received, the whole thing couldn't have been that big. I will definitely be back to eat here again since it's so much closer to home for good pho.

First time in Montreal. This is the first restaurant we've eaten at and it was delicious. I had the pad Thai and it was excellent... We were in Thailand a 2 years ago and I can say it's as good as what we had in Thailand...

Not the best pho place, but one of the best in Ville Saint Laurent. The Chinese food is actually pretty good too.

Food was great. We drove here from downtown as it was raining and they had a parking lot.read more

Wow what an amazing place i always had the urge to try this beautiful place out…read more this was during the ice storm and it was one of the restos that had power and they were cooking for the entire village they were really making everything possible to help serve everyone as much as they could. The place was amazing actually even during the full blown storm and all the chaos they managed to get our orders out in style!! We got served fairly quickly. Place was amazing The food to die for! My boeuf saignant with tripes were devine they taste super tender the broth was all I needed that day Pho soup helped me stay warm during such a difficult storm ... we really warmed up our bellys and it helped us through the night Food was absolute fresh and I am so happy I finally gave this place a try I wasn't really expecting high standards because i knew they were overwhelmed with orders but nonetheless our orders came out exceptionally delishh will definitely be back here again very very soon The shrimp and veggie tempura were still crispy and you can tell they were fresh and homemade batter Even my calamari wow and that dipping sauce paired well with the crispy texture. The dip had a very citrus / sweet flavour hint of cilantro. I loved it Overall, definitely top notch for pho and will be back in a heartbeat Cheers!!

A friend suggested this place to me for an early dinner as it was relatively close to where I was…read moreand he was in the neighbourhood. I always like a good pho and this place serves a very good pho. For my choice of pho, I generally get the largest bowl that they have and I opt for the mix of meats and tendons. I can say that the pho is very good in this place. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is that I generally don't give 5 stars to places that don't accept credit cards (or at worse debit cards). This is a cash only establishment. Like a lot of Asian restaurants, depending on how full the restaurant is and how many people in your party, you might be seated at the same table with strangers or strangers might be sitting at your table.

TLTR; Packaging: 5/5…read morePortion: 5/5 Quality of side veggies: 4/5 Limes were small and dry Vietnamese coffee: 5/5 Pho: 3/5 I found a hair Bun Bo Hue: 1/5 Lack of flavor and spice Very disappointed. Old time fan of this place, I even gave it 5 stars... Let's start with what was good. The Vietnamese iced coffee is amazing! The thing with Vietnamese iced coffee in Montreal is that it's rarely made right. The pho was amazing too! Probably better than how it use to be... And then I found a hair. Maybe it's what gave it extra flavor! (Hahaha) The bun bo hue (spicy beef soup) is not good anymore. This place's bun bo hue use to the best in Montreal; it was flavorful, savory and spicy without any help from the condiments on the side! Now, the only distinguishable flavor and aroma in my bowl is the rice in the rice noodles. The soup was plain and was not spicy at all. Yes, you can just add the house chili oil/flakes but its not the same as when the chili flakes were cooked in the broth and rehydrated. If you add too much chili oil you get a really weird and strong aroma kind of like burnt sesame. Add too much chili flakes and you get a chili seed soup. Anyways, the soup just needs more shrimp paste and lemon grass. I hope it was just a bad day and not a change of recipe!
