If you are not white save your time and don't come here. They didn't check on us once. The service sucks... news flash. There are people who are mixed with Vietnamese... they were talking so disgusting about me and laughing.... My mom makes better at home anyways. A waste of my money and my pride. I'm so disappointed in these people.

Yu S.

The broth here is scrumptious. The previous pho I had was Pho Bo, and I like this at least as much as that one. Maybe even more. Professor Google AI does say that authentic pho broth should be clear, so there are people that would consider the broth here "dirty." But I am by no means a pho broth purist, so when I see the little flakes of ambiguous bone marrow, I see umami is what I see. Aside from that, I do see a couple indications that they are trying to cut cost a tad. For example, the veg plate only has a single slice of jalapeño while I feel most other joints would have several. That's not a huge deal as I usually just put one in. However, they are a tad meager on the basil as well, which is bad as I always put in all my basil.

Pho with Tripe I didn't request
Eid F.

They added Tripe to my order, as soon as it hit the table I seen the mistake and asked them to change it. About 2 minutes later a new bowl of pho magically appeared... red flag l was missed... wow they were quick is all I thought... then about 5 minutes later a tasted something funny... they never gave me a new bowl... instead they just removed the larger pieces of tripe on the surface and served me the same dish. There were a bunch of smaller pieces of tripe under the noodles (see picture). At the register they were selling hardware tools (pliers, carpenter knives, screwdrivers, etc). Positive, the place was very clean. I try to give small, family-owned businesses the benefit of the doubt but too many red flags in this one. I pass and won't be back. A lot of other family owned Pho places to support instead.

Fillet mignon pho

We stopped by here for some PHO after a day out at Las Americas Outlet. We wanted something hot with soup, and PHO was it! We ordered the fried egg rolls and two large pho bowls, one with filet mignon and one with a combination pho. The egg rolls came first, piping hot, filled adequately with all the amazing stuffings, and came with dipping sauce and a side of greens. Then the large bowls of Pho followed suit, not too long after. The broth was clean, refreshing, and very delicious! They were very generous with the proteins and the noodles, too! We were so glad to stop by and try out this Pho place. The service was decent; the waitstaff was very direct but polite, and they came by at least once to refill our waters. The ambiance is very casual, and I love the bright lights and spacious restaurant. While you order when you sit down at the table, when you are ready to settle the bill, you'd have to get up to the cashier at the back of the restaurant. This place offers excellent food, and I recommend it if you're in the area and craving Pho.

#46 Broken Rice with BBQ Pork
Henry J.

Delicious food and top-notch service! I ordered the #46 broken rice with BBQ pork, and it was fantastic--the pork dipped in the sauce was bursting with flavor! But first, I spotted a mango smoothie on the menu, and it was absolutely divine, with fresh mango bits that took me right back to Thailand. Highly recommend for amazing service, perfectly cooked food, and that incredible mango smoothie!

This pho hit the spot .

First time coming here The beef pho is just so delicious I spot by as I was going to go sit at the park and have lunch.

Fresh spring rolls and beef banh mi

It's been a while since I've been here but it won't be long before I return. Came here on a frigid Friday night because my kids were craving pho. So glad we came here rather a different place on the same street. Got parking right away and when we weren't even in the door yet, there was already someone there to show us to our seat. Their service is 5 stars on its own. The restaurant is spacious, clean, and inviting. My daughter was checking out the fish tank and even that was clean and spacious. As soon as we sat down, we got menus right away. We ordered chicken pho for my picky daughter, beef pho for hubby, beef stew with bread for my adventurous daughter, and I had the fresh spring rolls and a beef banh mi. The food came out so fast, we were shocked. Holy cow! So good on a cold night. Everyone finished their food. The cashier even asked us if we needed to-go boxes and we said no because we left nothing on the table. Everything was fresh and tasty. Condiments and every utensil imaginable was already on the table. You can really tell how good a place is when their bread is crispy and light when you bite into it. So fresh. We'll definitely stick to this place for pho from now on. Thank you Pho Hung Cali!

It a cold Saturday morning and you have a craving for some delicious, flavorful and piping hot PHO well this place for me hit that spot. Food piping hot flavorful and a nice amount of protein I'm little skeptical on the filet mignon it was more like regular steak but never the less the flavor and customer service was awesome Pho filet mignon two thumbs up Wrapped shrimp appetizer two thumbs up Service fast and friendly and on point. All in all great experience Garcia family approved.

Rare steak and meat ball

My go to spot in Chula Vista. I like to get their pho special and add meatball. I also like Vietnamese fried eggrolls and wrap it in lettuce then dip in the fish sauce. Located right off broadway with its on private parking lot. Fast, friendly service. My water cup was refilled without me asking. That's always a plus.

One of two entrances

It was my first time at Pho Hung Cali in Chula Vista. My partner and I were hungry and Pho Hung Cali was on our way home. I walked inside and immediately felt space (too much of it) especially for the amount of tables that were inside of this restaurant. It could definitely use some Vietnamese decor, add some life to its walls and other areas. Entire place was clean. The outside could use some plants and should dispose of any trash/debris that's sitting outside of front entrance area. Now for food ... All servers were attentive and polite, always ready to fill up our cup with water. The food came out in a timely manner, the right temperature and presentation. The pho meatballs soup was good, but meatballs were on the tough side. The chicken vermicelli was also good but the some of the chicken pieces were tough as well. The chicken wasn't terrible, but it lacked seasoning. Definitely not as delicious as Pho Cow 7s in National City (best tasting chicken vermicelli in Southbay). In comparison to other Vietnamese restaurant's price points, Pho Hung Cali should give a little more on portioning. The place appears to be getting their share of customers so they must be doing something right. Overall dining experience was good - 5 star service. Not sure if this is the Vietnamese restaurant I would recommend unless it's the only one in Chula Vista. However, would not hurt to give it a try though.

Inside, its clean, brightly lit, and with walls adorned with artwork and musical instruments. Clean restroom too. The food portions are huge - a large is really large. Quality wise, the flavors are mostly there with some minor issues that make me rate 3 stars: Grilled Pork Bun came in a huge heaping bowl with lots of grilled pork. Most places slice up the pork evenly so its easier to heat. Here, we had a mix of some thinly sliced and some real thick pieces that were more a bit too chewy. Grilled Shrimp Rice - Usually our 5yo loves Vietnamese-style grilled shrimp but he was not a huge fan in the case. The shell-on shrimp were crooked properly but its missing some of the sweet, lemongrass flavors that we've grown to love and expect. Our son wound up eating all the pickled shredded carrots and radish instead. Wife ordered the BBH which looked really authentic with pieces of congealed pork blood and pieces of beef mixed onto a mild, non-spicy lemongrass broth. She liked the dish, but did comment that some of the beef pieces were on the chewy side.

"If you're going to get Vietnamese food, go to the one on Sweetwater" - my Elderly Aunt…read more Now, my elderly aunt (in her 80's) hardly ever voices her opinion. She was raised to be soft-spoken. So, if she insists on going to a specific restaurant for Vietnamese food, then you know that the place is good. Spoiler alert: she was right. As an out-of-towner, nothing makes me happier than trying a family-owned business, especially when it's recommended by someone (bonus points, when it's someone who's culinary POV I respect). I was meeting up with my Godson & his family. When my aunt overheard that we would be going to meet at a nearby Vietnamese restaurant in National City (which will remain unnamed), she insisted that we go to the one on "Sweetwater" (Pho Mai Cali & Grill) instead. FOOD: Eggrolls - 8.5 / 10 Warm, crispy. Just how I like them. I always appreciate when they are served alongside their signature Vietnamese sweet + sour sauce. The fish sauce is especially pronounced & very welcome. #8 (Pho with Rare Steak + Meatball) - 8.9 / 10 Rich, beefy, umami broth. The steak is tender. The meatballs have an interesting spongy texture. Plenty of long, chewy rice noodles. I don't always get pho when I go to a Vietnamese restaurant (I know, I know, I'm weird). So, when I get pho, it is a big compliment & a vote of confidence. I liked it & would gladly come back. Huge shout-out to the entire team. Service was phenomenal. We were a group of 7 waiting on 2 (coming from work). Our female server was beyond gracious with the numerous times she check-in on us. Especially with not saying a word that we went quite a bit over their closing time (I hate doing that, but it was others in my party that arrived later, & I was overly generous with gratuity in cash). Please support family-owned businesses like Pho Mai Cali & Grill. I would happily come back any day of the week.

I've stopped here plenty of times for a quick Vietnamese coffee run before my tee time next door…read more Since the shop is still fairly new, the interior isn't the most visually appealing and definitely has more of a mom-and-pop, hole-in-the-wall vibe. That said, the food always looks amazing, and there's usually a steady stream of customers whenever I stop by. One thing that surprised me was the coffee. It's noticeably lighter in color, almost as if cream or milk has already been added, compared to the traditional dark, strong Vietnamese coffee made with espresso and condensed milk. It's a different style than what I'm used to, but still worth trying if you're curious. The place is small, with fewer than six tables, so it's more of a quick spot to grab pho or satisfy a Vietnamese food craving rather than somewhere to hang out for a long meal. Again, it's definitely smaller than most pho restaurants, but sometimes those are the places that surprise you the most.
