Some classes are better than others it doesn't come with a surprise. Some of the best one are probably pilate, and burn the barre. Especially burn the barre and yoga class on Thursday 2pm. I didn't try all of them, so I can't judge so accurately, but given the time being there mmm I still prefer going to my PT not affiliated with the club. That is if I want faster results! But overall is quite good, some amenities in the spa area and pool needs definitely an update!

The good: Very big and nice facilities with amazing great variety of equipment. A TON of group fitness classes if you're into that including free reformer Pilates classes (if you can get in.) Issues (that are unacceptable in general or just completely insane to have at the membership price point...these are things you deal with a budget gym or someplace you go for free): Constant elevator issues which cause lines and long wait times during peak hours. And for the last 6+ months they've only had two of three functioning if that. You know it's an issue, fix it for goodness sakes. Good luck if you rely on parking here. The entrance are closed half the time causing you to have to detour for a good ten plus minutes to get in and then exiting you're stuck behind trucks delivering in the alley they've left "open" for you to get out. And yes the validate but they randomly increased the price from $11 to $12 one day. Not a huge deal but why not tell members in advance? It's just sloppy. The sound systems are suboptimal for group classes especially in the HIIT studio. It is a vibe killer for sure. The spa that we were promising was coming soon when we joined in November of 2023 is still nowhere to be found. The locker rooms are adequately maintained but there are so many privacy issues. Often there are signs that there will be men working in the women's locker room. And the phone use is NUTS. People are on video conference calls! How is this allowed?? The cafe hours stink for early birds. If I'm done with my workout before 7am and I want coffee, I'm SOL. It's also insanely expensive. I cannot speak for the food there because I won't eat it after I saw a mouse in the cafe area while I was working from there one day. Treadmills are constantly broken. They added a bunch and now there's somehow less available because they cannot seem to maintain them. Out of service for a day or two is one thing but it goes way longer than that. Good luck and Godspeed accessing an assault bike or a ski erg between 10:15 and 2pm on weekdays. They're fully monopolized by the turf class and the HIIT studio is used for classes including mat Pilates (??) Generally speaking maintenance seems to be an issue. A pedal was hanging off one of the two assault bikes on the main floor this week when I was using it. A tread was sticking a few weeks ago when I started to run on it. I couldn't strap my foot into a rower the other day. It doesn't seem like it would be too much to ask that they keep their eye on this. I do feel like it used to be under control but had fallen off a cliff recently. Too many people here are shooting footage for social media. I cannot complete a workout without being concerned I'm in the background of someone's selfie-video or photo shoot. Hotel guests have full access to the gym. It adds to the insane crowds on the weekend and needs to get in check. Many of the trainers and instructors are great but a handful of trainers that either do personal training or turf classes are flat out RUDE. I was treated disrespectfully and even bullied by one of them while minding my own business just trying to complete my workout. This is embarrassing for the gym and needs to be addressed. Ultimately, I could no longer justify being a paying member with so little care shown by management about the member experience. Perhaps spending less time posting less on social media and more time listening to an addressing member feedback would be helpful.

If you see me walking down Spruce St in my squash whites, NO you did not. Anyways, The Racquet Club has been truly amazing. Despite what may come off as stuffy, old money, "white people nonsense" vibes (these were my thoughts upon my first visit), I've actually found the club to be diverse in many ways, accommodating, and (most of all) VERY well run. I have gotten to learn a new sport, meet wonderful new people, and enjoy the amenities of the club for ~$100/month with summer membership. While full membership is not at all in the budget, summer membership allows you to forego food and beverage minimums while still enjoying the many perks of full membership. As someone who works in community building, seeing the lengths the team here goes to ensure all members feel included has really blown me away. Active happy hours, pros who are there to support you, a great newsletter, etc. I love the experience of being bad at something and gradually getting better, so working on my squash game week by week with incremental improvements (REALLY incremental) has been glorious for my mental and physical health. I look forward to taking better advantage of the full club throughout the remainder of my membership.

As someone who's gone to this gym from time to time, there are a few pros & cons that I will list…read moreout in detail to help you better understand as to whether or not this gym is for you! Pros: The gym has a LARGE amount of amenities. There are two basketball courts (which are also used for pickleball), an indoor lap pool with hot tubs, an outdoor swimming area with slides (at an extra charge). There are classes, a ton of different machines for both cardio and lifting, and a really clean and upscale atmosphere. People tend to mind their own business and the staff have on average been helpful, at least in my experience. There is also a kids "daycare" if that's what you call it. A lot of parents will use this so they can have time to work out and actually work. There's a little area right next to the cafe that has tables and outlets. I see a lot of people with MacBooks doing work. They probably work remotely. Who knows. Cons: The price point for this gym is definitely the highest of them all coming in at $220.00 a month per person. IF you are married or you can prove cohabitation, you can add an additional person on your account for around $100 a month. This gym definitely has a crowd that is very gymcentric. This isn't a bad thing. But some people who are looking for a more chill or less intimidating atmosphere may think twice. I was one of these people until I decided to just not care. But that's easier said than done. The gym can be exceptionally crowded at peak hours. So if you plan on going daily I'd do my very best to avoid late afternoons on weekdays and nights on weekends. I was hoping the bathroom situation would be a little better but, there seems to be 2 bathrooms for ladies and men of course (from what I've seen). And with the amount of people there sometimes, it can be a little bit hectic. The locker room is fine and the showers are just average. At the price point of $220.00 I was expecting some futuristic pod shower than also does your taxes but, we all can't have what we want. The outside swimming area is an additional monthly charge, by the way. Conclusion: So take it or leave it. The price point is HIGH, but there are a lot more amenities and options for machines than any other gym out there. Is that justified? I don't really know. So three stars. Until they have a robot that does my taxes, then it might go to 4.

I just happen to live nearby so this is the best resource available. They've got a good range of memberships available. I'm usually staying on the 3-month membership so there's repeated intervals of getting motivated again to make good use of the money I spend. There's three floors here. First floor is mostly the lobby, but also some locker rooms, squash courts, and the pool. Upstairs is the main gym area, including the rooms where classes take place, basketball court, rock wall, and indoor track. If you come over the course of an academic quarter, you'll notice the ebb and flow across time of day and know exactly when midterms and finals seasons are. Suddenly it's a lot easier to get a squat rack for some reason. Things are kept pretty clean for the amount of traffic that comes through, especially student traffic, and the students who frequent are pretty good at re-racking correctly and wiping down benches after use. Membership team here has always been helpful! For some reason, they have limited hours on when you can process membership payments and renewals, but usually it's not a huge issue to get it done. Another year and I'm still going strong with AFC Fitness. I come for the group fitness/yoga classes…read moreand truly feel that they are some of the best around. Some of these instructors are far better than at most gyms. Barre Fusion with Sevon gets me revved with amazing music, challenging strength not with heavy weights but with body and/or light weights and plenty of reps, alternating with fun and relatively easy dance/aerobic moves. If you can grapevine, you can handle it. And there is zero judgement or ego here. Everyone is just doing their best at their level. While the Studio A floor is newly updated (yay!), I would love if they added a real barre in one of the studios. We use chairs but it would make a difference to the movements. Sevon still keeps Barre Fusion amazing. She is conscious of body alignment and form, with safe, smart Pilates and dance moves. Noah's Hatha and Gentle Yoga classes are doable and challenging for all levels. He has so many years of experience in yoga, breath work and alignment that makes his classes the safest and wisest ones. He cues poses by discrete anatomical descriptions. For those who are paying attention, this is the difference between passive or mindless poses and active, thoughtful postures and a decent amount of effort. It's called architectural movement for a reason. I have left many a Gentle Yoga class feeling sore and/or sweaty! You don't need to be flexible do yoga, you just need to be open to learning. Marc's Gentle Yoga classes are also extremely safe, can be modified, and light and fun. His sense of humor reminds us that life doesn't have to always be so serious, and he always keeps the vibe focused and positive. The cleaning crew in the women's locker room are kind, diligent and deserve a huge shout out because they work so hard. Jivali studio could really use some TLC in terms of ventilation and humidity control. Perhaps even some fans when it is really warm. I still wish AFC could spend some time updating the equipment in Jivali - more thick blocks (most yoga students seem to benefit from these than the smaller ones but there aren't enough for a class of 16), cleaner and new yoga blankets, yoga straps for all. Bolsters would be amazing. It's evident that students don't wipe down or spray the equipment after use, which given the atmosphere of Jivali, seems useful. All told, AFC Fitness is still a great place for classes. The front desk staff are always so friendly. Melissa has a smile on her face every time I see her! The community feel of this gym is still very palpable. It's a bright part of my world. The free 30 day trial is worth your time.

Let's start with the obvious positives: 1. playing sports is fun 2. you don't have to organize anything yourself 3. beer afterward 4. seasons are reasonably priced (~$65/season per person) 5. everyone makes the playoffs 6. good way to meet other people in the neighborhood Some improvements: 1. the ref fee--include it in the season fee 2. constant outreach from the league organizers is annoying 3. banquet is quite expensive for the experience I've enjoyed the time that I've spent playing rec volleyball and I have also made some friends through the league I wouldn't have met otherwise. I've played in multiple sports leagues with this organization over several years and they have…read moregradually gotten worse. You'd think it would improve over time but it's just the opposite. The website which houses the league registration links, schedules, standings, etc. is scarcely updated. In the basketball leagues at least, the league will have a posted start date, and an email will go out about the schedule being posted by a certain date. But it rarely is posted when they say it will be. Last season, with cancelations and the way it was scheduled, we literally went 4 weeks in between games. The league is expensive for what you get. Teams don't even get shirts, and the league organizer makes no attempt to ask the teams to pick a color to wear since they aren't provided. This especially causes issues in basketball leagues, and it makes it way too easy for teams to bring ringers aboard late in the season (which always happens). Each team must pay $25 per game for ref fees on top of the league fee. That an extra $200 a season. If you play on a free agent team, you are often stuck paying a good portion of it because you can't enforce that people you don't know bring cash with them. Often, only one ref shows up, which means that he pockets $50 for that game, in which he puts forth a lazy, uninspired effort at officiating. I want that job. $50 an hour! Additionally, we were to start a new basketball league this past Monday at Kendrick Rec Center. I bust my ass to get down there through area rush hour traffic. The person working at the Rec Center acts as though she had no idea we were even supposed to be there. Then...i find out the game was postponed because the other team couldn't make it, although we were never contacted to inform us as such. I'd avoid this organization at this point and use Philly Sports Leagues instead. It has its flaws too, but it's usually a tad better than this. I lived in other major cities and the rec sports offerings are superior in other places than in Philly.
