What a pathetic excuse for an airline! Their customer service, or lack of it, makes filipinos look bad. We are generally great at customer service, but this airline seems to go to extremes to make your travel experience a nightmare! Lets start by having SOME of their passengers go through a faux security screening and making SOME passengers throw out their water bottles. And this is after going through airport security. And then to corral us in a supposedly secure area, where kids and adults pass through this magical wall of air they created. And the CONSTANT delays! WOW! Why is it that everytime I decide to fly PAL there's always a mishap, or an incident, and now an unhelpful staff? I have a sprained ankle and I prefer to tough it out and not take away a wheelchair from an elderly, sick person who actually deserve it! Walk-in into the end of a long hallway I reached several gates and I approached two PAL staff eating , chatting so to make sure I don't waste anymore time and energy I just asked them where gate 14 is. The woman with the bad eyebrows said sit on the other side maam( meaning the other side of the coffee shop) so I slowly inched my way there. Lo and behold- I found out that gate 14 is actually located behind the two who was just eating and chit chatting! I got upset of course and asked why they directed me to the other side! The girl with the bad eyebrows said, you can't sit here yet ma'ambecause your gate is still closed. how stupid is that? Can't she see I'm limping? So I told her she should have told me that earlier. It's totally moronic and this girl had the audacity to say- it's not my problem!!! Really PAL this is what you can come up with in terms of employees? Don't you train them enough so they would at least have the basic manners as customer relations? I have never given you guys a review before... but now after being forced( since my other airline cancelled) I HAD to fly you guys again. You never fail to disappoint- from rebooking, to refund, to following up on lost luggages, now add to the list bad employees. It only takes one or two bad apples to ruin a whole cart. So I went to upgrade my seat for 50$ online so that my friends and I could sit together on our 15hour flight. As I purchased my 50$ seat, I got a confirmation saying the seat was reserved. However, my bank statement read that the airline had taken 5,000$ out of my account. I had a horrible time reaching and getting ahold of the airlines, and I still have not been refunded my money, so I will be returning home with no way to pay my rent. Thank you PAL for being so kind and robbing me literally the most violated I have ever felt. However, it gets worse no one offered to upgrade my seat or even try to help so that I would be compensated for my loses. I have had a terrible few days filled with tears and nothing but emails that have no been replied back too. Zero stars from me. read more

To be honest my expectation was low before flying with this carrier for my first time. I decided to book a one way slightly expensive air ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Manila to try out this airline. Website is fine, I got my assigned seat and of course seats with better legroom space, you have to pay for them and that is always a no to me unless it's a long haul flight. Scheduled aircraft type is Airbus A321 and I am quite happy about it as its newer than the A320. I was pleasantly surprised with the good set of crew who exceeded my expectation for the inflight service. They were friendly and professional through out - different set of crew - different service but this is definitely a good first impression. Fortunately for me, the middle seat between mine and the person seating at the aisle remained vacant so more legroom space for both of us. Another surprise for me is that to use the entertainment system is by downloading the application your mobile device and you can access it via the app! Connect your device to the wireless network and you can enjoy the free entertainment for the duration of your flight. I did a check and you can use it immediately from the departure gate to the arrival gate, of course announcements and safety demonstration (done manually) would interrupt your program, but that's pretty good! The wireless network is great, only thing is it drains the battery of your electronic device, so make sure your device is more than 3/4 charged. As for now, not all aircraft has the wireless IFE program so it depends on your luck. As for the inflight meal, it's pretty decent and a refill of drink was given too, pretty generous. So overall, I am pleasantly surprised with the service, cabin interior and the IFE wireless system, it isn't what I expected! So will I fly with this airline again? Definitely. read more

I used Philippine Airlines for my Tokyo - Guam round trip flight, stopping for a layover in Manila for a few hours for both routes. I have not flown PAL for years. I use to for almost every year before. Being on-board recently, I forgot how good the service is. The flight attendants are just the nicest. The pilots would always seems to be one of the best in the world. Overall the whole experience every time, always smooth and pleasurable. Those working on the ground are very nice as well. It's a shame that their job couldn't be seen as its best as the airport is just one of the worst. So, I'm pretty much reviewing the PAL staff. They're indeed superb! read more

I recently flew to Ho Chi Minh via PAL. Obviously it wasn't me who paid for it, because if it was me paying, I would be taking a budget airline (#poor). Luckily enough this organization I'm volunteering for paid for my flight to a seminar I attended. I've flown with PAL with my family to the US and Hongkong. I don't recall much of my experience since I was really young and just slept and ate a lot. This also means it's been THAT LONG since I've flown with a nice, NOT BUDGET airline. And when you're used to budget airlines, any upgrade easily means LUXURY. Like.. ooh, more legroom. Yay, I can choose the drinks I want to have and they have orange juice that isn't powdered! And yes, comfy seats that don't numb the hell out of my butt! And oh are those blankets?!?! PAL offers a comfortable flying experience, and generally this airline has a good safety record, which means you don't end up having too much of those "what if the plane crashes omglakfaldjalfj!!!" scenarios in your head. NOTE: if you're vegan like me, there are no readily available options for you except for maybe side dishes or fruit, so I think you'd have to specifically request for a vegan meal (and I presume, pay more) upon booking your flight. Or you know, stock up on vegan snacks to munch on. read more

Just went through 2 separate security checkpoints after flying in international (having already gone through the international security from the airport I left at). Now we're all stuck in our waiting area with no access to food or a restroom without leaving and going through security again. Great job! This is a horribly inefficient system. read more

I booked a trip for my fiance and her aunte from Cagayan de Oro to Manila for her visa interview and back to Cagayan de Oro. On the return flight, they arrived 35 minutes early and Philippines Airlines would not allow my fiance and her aunte on the plane because their flight had been bumped to the next flight. They were not told at the gate that the reason was that their flights had been bumped to the next flight, instead they were told the gates were already closed even though they were there 35 minutes early. When I told my girlfriend, to go to help desk they were told they would have to purchase another ticket for the next flight even though the tickets were already paid for being bumped to that flight. I then found flights on Cebu Pacific but by the time they went to the Western Union to pick up the money I had to send them (at 2:00 in the morning my time) and back to the ticketing counter the prices had doubled again. Needless to say she could only afford to book a flight for 4:30 am in the morning so she spend 14 hours in an air conditioned airport in shorts and tank-top for a flight on another airline because Philippine Airlines would not let them on their flight, not once, but two times for flights that had already been paid for. My advice is to fly Cebu Pacific within the Philippines and EVA Airlines out of the Philippines and to avoid Philippine Airlines at ALL costs. read more

I've used so many airlines in the last 10 years and I can clearly say that PAL is my all-time favorite. Whether for international or domestic flights, the experience is the same. The people are always polite, the planes are clean and fly well and the pilots are really good. With other airlines, turbulence and landing can really get bad, but for the past 5 or 6 times I've used PAL, I've never had that problem. I also love that they have pretty practical prices, sometimes almost as good as other budget airlines. Yet their rebooking policy is hassle-free. If I have a choice of airlines to use, my first choice will always be PAL. read more

This is not entirely the fault of PAL, though I still feel the lack of communications to the passengers waiting in the gate area and others while checking in made the situation worse than what it already was. July 18th, I was scheduled to fly home via LAX. Manila traffic being unpredictable and not knowing how many passengers would check in early, I left for the airport a tad earlier than normal. PR102 was scheduled to depart 9:00 PM and arriving same day LAX at 7:30 PM. Earlier in the day, apparently an Airbus A380 had landed and parts of the runway was damaged. Around 4:00 PM, passengers started to hang out at the gate area. One announcement after another, PAL flights to various destinations were either delayed (PAL's acronym Plane Always Late!) or cancelled. Then there were announcements of the runway being repaired. There was no effort on PAL to assign a personnel or two at the respective gates for LAX and SFO destinations to forewarn passengers the possibility of their flight being cancelled or delayed. There was a mad dash to the gate counters (1 & 3) when the earlier flights departing for LAX and SFO were cancelled. This was around 6:30 PM. It was natural for the passengers departing at the later flight to also congregate at the gate desks and query about the later flight departure. We were told to stay within the gate area and wait for further announcements. I was fortunate, PR102 was delayed instead of being cancelled. The flight eventually departed close to midnight. The end result was arriving in LAX at 11:00 instead of 7:30. Due to our late arrival, no disembarking gate was available. Had to sit it out on the plane for another 30 minutes before finally the plane taxied to a gate. Unfortunately, 3 other international flights arrived at that time creating some large masses of passengers having to go through immigration. My luggage was one of the last ones that came out. By the time I drove out of the Marriott Hotel parking lot it was 1:15 AM July 19th. 2 hours later I was home. But I had to work on tuesday and I start work at 5:30. I have traveled A LOT in this world, and I was reminded why I despise PAL! Growing up, my parents used to fly us on PAL. As an adult, I started to fly Cathay Pacific for overseas business travel to Asia (business class). At home in the U.S., I fly either American or Southwest Airlines. Even compared to Southwest Airlines, PAL majorly sucks. I flew PAL from SFO to MNL on economy class. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I like how my seat had a personal TV, and I was able to watch movies on demand. I was also able to play Tetris or listen to music. I was so glad I brought my noise canceling headphones because the people around me were really loud and chatty. I can't even be mad because I am sure they were excited to go "home" to the Philippines. The food absolutely sucks on both their international and domestic flights. I flew PAL from MNL to Puerto Princesa and the food was equally terrible. I didn't eat on either flights! I would have been happy with Southwest's honey roasted peanuts instead. Both my flights were super delayed - I'm talking about 2 hours plus! That's horrible! Customer service also sucks! I can't even begin to compare them to anyone else because they suck so bad. I really wish they were better because Filipinos are known to have great customer service everywhere else, except the airlines! I wish they did a better job on everything else because I would like to fly them and give them my business since they are a Filipino company. read more

Avoid this airline. They are unorganized. They do greatly have any privileges at various Asian airports (for example HND) where as a business class passenger you can advance in the security line. So happy to be here in Manila. I have to say I've had the worst experience with PAL. They made those of us who were inconvenienced with the engine problem Nov. 21 wait in lines for EVERYTHING, all lasting longer than an hour, whether it be to unload the plane, get a hotel for "compensation", wait in another line when arriving for my rescheduled flight not to checkin any bags, but to inquire about bags they wouldn't release to make sure they'd be on my rescheduled flight, only to be given no answers and they "weren't sure" if my bags would show up. When I arrived in Manila, again had to wait for all bags to come out (longer than 1 hour), then had to go wait in another line at baggage assistance with several others who didn't get their luggage. Luckily I received 1 and was only missing 1 (although the luggage I got only had pasalubongs and the other had all my clothes). The airline had ZERO info and said MAYBE my bag would be on another flight arriving the next day but they wouldn't be sure, and it could take up to a week to get my luggage. I asked if there would be any kind of compensation for all our time, and the lady at the counter gave me a number to call. I'm going to call, but we all know how over the phone complaints go. The pilot did land us safe, but all communication and reassurance was completely lacking from the airline. I am not confident in their quality and service and will not be recommending them to fam and friends. read more

Because of this, we also had to change our domestic flight and therefore incurring additional charges for the change in our booking. Now, they refuse to reimburse us for this. I was scheduled to return to the States on 8/31 when I arrived to the Philippines on the 7/27 I got an email saying that they cancelled my return flight and I had 2 choices. 1 was to exchange my ticket for the next day flight with no charge or they would give me a full refund. Since I knew the ticket would be more I took the next flight. I had to pay an extra day for my hotel but when I called for compensation on a Monday nobody at the customer service number answered the phone the whole day. The next day nobody answered the phone at customer service number so I called reservations. I finally got a hold of someone which they said they would not reimburse my stay nor offer a discount on the upgrade to business class. Customer service representative on the phone said to go to the airport on the day of the return flight and discuss the issue with the customer service representative at the ticket counter. On the day of I do what they tell me to do and they say to email them. I'm like wow. So I can't believe PAL cancels the flight and does not compensate for the extra day when they were the ones to cancel the flight. I just wish they had better customer service to people who believe in the airline and try to support the airline especially when people tell you that PAL has bad customer service. Can't fix broke lol... I gave it 2 Stars because I'm nicer than they are lol. read more

You can not bring a bottle of water. Onto the plane. You go through inspection as you enter the airport. Inspection as you go through customs and then once you are in the airport. You have to go through inspection just to sit down. That is when thay take any liquids from you. It really sucks. read more

When I go to the states to visit my mom, the last few flights have been through Philippine Airlines. I would take straight flights to LAX and ever since I've been flying through PAL, I would have hassle free traveling. There is just a certain trust that is present because you know that you are in good hands. Starting from the check in counter, the staff would help you with whatever you needed in terms of seating arrangement so you would feel comfortable during the whole flight. As soon as you board, the cabin crew will greet you with a smile and show you to your seat. They are all attentive to your needs. Based on my experience, I was having motion sickness and the stewardess that helped me made sure that I was alright before leaving. She gave me everything I needed in order to feel better. When the plane has landed, they will also make sure you know what to do next especially when you have a connecting flight. Flying with PAL has always been good. They really value all of the passengers' welfare. It doesn't feel like they're just doing what they have to do since it's their job. read more

PAL is one of the two most popular airlines in the country. I've ridden via PAL several times now. This airline is so EXPENSIVE. Which I do not understand, really. It's way cheaper to fly on commercial airlines of other countries, so despite my inclination to try my best to go all Pinoy-businesses-only PAL has made us choose others. Their airline is expensive but their planes and everything else is okay. We're lucky to not have experienced any serious case or delay/cancellation for any of our PAL flights. The planes are always in good shape, although coach never really gets too comfortable. The stewards are as they should be, polite and accommodating. The food at PAL isn't the best but it isn't horrible either. Can't expect much from airplane food, after all. Over-all flying with PAL gives you a good experience over-all but if you're just taking a short flight I suggest taking a much cheaper airline instead. read more
