15 minute call with one of his assoc billed $1007.20 just to refill a prescription for very low dosage. Useless and why healthcare costs are skyrocketing. Go to your primary doctor instead or go holistic. Pill pushers are getting rich for no service, lack of caring. read more

Dr Malinas is the most caring and kind Dr, he listens to your needs and takes the time for you. I have been with Dr. Malinas 11 years from his first practice to now, he does expect you to have some common courtesy and cancel if you can't make it, not no call no show or he will put you on his call in list which is not fun, I missed once due to surgery and learned a lesson from that, after working all the years with him I have been stable enough to maintain a very functional lifestyle for myself to keep up I have some good days and bad days but for the most part good days thanks for letting me share my review read more

Stay away!!! First, it took them almost a year to get Spravato and TMS approved through my insurance. Actually, it was my husband who made call after call to our insurance company, not Malinas's office, and I was finally able to begin treatment. Nearly two years ago now, I received a letter from Dr. Malinas, essentially "firing" me as a patient. Their billing office had completely screwed up. Halfway through my treatment, they failed to inform me that they were no longer a preferred provider for my insurance, thus my copays doubled. I was never told, asked for a copay, or even sent a bill. In the middle of my second to last TMS treatment, the office manager, I think her name was Monica, barged in and told me I owed them $4,000! Wth? A couple of weeks after I completed my TMS treatment, I received a letter from Dr. Malinas, telling me he couldn't afford to "carry the balance" due on my account, which, again, I was never billed for, and he was dumping me as a patient. All the progress I had made was immediately gone. It's been nearly two years, and my mental health is worse than it's ever been. I rarely leave my house and never feel like doing anything. If I had the money or the energy, I would've filed a complaint with the medical board and possibly a lawsuit. Their office is still hounding me for $400. Not sure how it went from $4,000 to $400, but it doesn't matter. If I won the lottery, I wouldn't give them a dime. If life and decent medical care existed, they should pay me for the anguish I've gone through for the past two years. They're not unprofessional but absolutely despicable. Now, since I was "fired" as a patient, I'm trying to figure out why I'm receiving texts from PsychPlus, who evidently has partnered/taken over the office, to set up an appointment! Sounds like things have gotten worse instead of better. If this office was the only psychiatric provider on the planet, I'd do without. read more

Dr. Malinas has been my psychiatrist for about 8 years. He is caring, empathetic, and includes you in your treatment choices. He responds to phone calls quickly. He has a unique calmness about him so you feel heard and know his choices for your mental health matter to him. Alexandra Pipitone read more

I have spoken with dr Malinas in the past. As much as I liked him getting an appointment this time proved difficult. I filled out all the paperwork requested and was told I would hear from someone within a day or two. After not hearing back I called and left a message. Four days later I called again and said since I had not heard back I was giving up. Someone did call this time but there was no apology, they wanted to start over with the paperwork and an appointment was two weeks off. I think dr Malinas is dedicated and very good, but getting past the staff is nearly impossible . read more

My son saw Nate Mellum for a couple of years and we were very pleased with his care. However, we then switched over to another APRN, Rose, who was just horrible. She didn't know my son's name or age on two occasions because she "had the wrong chart open", conducted most of our visits by phone in her car, and gave me wrong information as to where his prescription was sent. Then dealing with the office manager Missy is horrible. She is extremely rude and short during every conversation. Unfortunately, she is the office manager so you cannot express concerns about her treatment of patients with anyone there. We have now chosen to utilize another doctor for my son's needs because this place seems like a medication chop shop. Please find somewhere else to go if you can. 10/10 do not recommend. read more

After reading many poor reviews, I was nervous and skeptical about this office. A coworker of mine recommended it and assured me, I would be in great hands working with anyone under Dr. Malinas supervision. I gave it a try because I was desperate for help. Upon initially calling the office, the female staff member stated to fill out the forms online and when they received them, that I would receive a call back. Less than 30 minutes later, I received a call to schedule my initial assessment with nurse Akel. From our first interaction, I felt compassion. I have had several interactions with him and office staff and all have been a positive experience. I highly recommend for mental wellness. read more

Very unprofessional video appointment with one of their nurse practitioners. Nurse was eating, changed rooms, yawning, and it sounded like someone was in the background during our call. When I called to provide feedback they didn't seem to care. They also only have one psychiatrist who isn't accepting new patients, so they'll make you an appointment with one of their nurses without giving you that heads up. Would not recommend at all. read more

Mental health issues? Not the place for you! Only one psychiatrist... who doesn't take new patients. Rest are only Physicians assistants. Unresponsive staff. Unwillingness to work with me. READ FINE PRINT OF ONLINE CONTRACT. Accidently missed an appointment. Now being charged 175$ will not let me work out a payment plan. Unwillingness to have any kind of understanding or grace. Left several messages never returned. Then I was told I'm marked down for not able to make a future appointment . You know what? Absolutely fantastic.... wouldn't go here if you paid me. I have enough issues with stress and anxiety I don't need an alleged mental health clinic stressing me out even more. They are rigid, and unbending. Thera so many better options out there. read more

I'm not even joking when I say if I could give this place a -1 star I would. I've never been so irritated. Back in June 2022 I was billed for an appointment I never had and a "no show" fee for an appointment I never scheduled. Catherine Wade called me while I was driving and asked if I was doing the appointment where I told her I never scheduled one because I was done with the way I was treated by the staff along with how she'd put words in my mouth and ignore what I said during sessions. That was the extent of the conversation and I hung up. They billed my insurance for this. In December 2022 after calling billing 5+ times they finally zero'ed out the remaining balance with zero apology and a rude attitude. I STILL have this statement to this day. I NEVER returned to them. I got a text about a month ago saying I owe them money for an appointment done on January 3rd, 2023. I have not been to them since March 28th, 2022. I have called billing 3 times now with zero response in email or phone call about this charge. They billed my insurance for a service I never had done. My insurance is pissed. This is insurance fraud and this place should be shut down immediately. Absolutely ridiculous!!!! read more

I'm surprised by the lower stars. I feel bad for those people. Perhaps they weren't paired with the best caretaker. I am a patient of Sharlas, and I can only sing her praises. I am so grateful to her. She genuinely sees to care about me and my struggles. Even stayed late to finish my appt with her, even tho I was late to the appointment. She listened, she was compassionate, she was understanding, and she also gave me the medication that I needed, and respected that there was some medication that I wasnt comfortable trying yet. I have nothing but good things to say to about her. Because of her, my mental and physical health (which are so poor) have improved since seeing her. She's so kind on all of our phone followups. She's works with me and my pharmacy to make sure that I can actually get my medication when they make it difficult. I could go on and on. Thank you, Sharla for such great care. You're one of the best medical practitioners I've ever worked with. ESPECIALLY a mental health practioner. Thank you thank you. read more

I've been struggling with a billing situation with this office for months. The office staff is completely incompetent in explaining things and even just taking payment. What happened was that the office pulled out of my health insurance network after I scheduled my appointment, but when I came in for my appointment and gave them my insurance card, they never let me know! I went to multiple appointments and they waited 6 months before sending the first bill! Then, the office doesn't handle billing locally and every time you call the billing office, you get a voicemail. If you're lucky enough for them to return you call, it's NEVER in the time frame you ask. This is more exhausting then dealing with the problems I came to the doctors with. I don't even want to get into how terrible the appointments themselves were. read more

Never saw Dr. Malinas. The PA that we saw for my son had to continually Google prescriptions as they were being discussed. I can do that myself and go to my son's pediatrician and ask to have them filled. I would hope she would be well versed in common meds?? I'm working on getting a prescription filled for over a week, and nothing. Multiple calls to the office (and office manager) didn't help. You can call time after time during business hours and you'll be told to leave a message. But they DO tell you their address and Fax number! Woo Hoo! Dr. Malinas came highly recommended, but I'm done. If I can't work with a competent clinician and get prescription refills, this practice is of little value. When you can't get ahold of anyone during normal business hours, that's the last straw. read more

I totally agree with poster J.D. See his review. He describes a similar relationship with Dr. Malinas that I have. Dr. Malinas is one of the very best psychiatrists I have ever had anywhere in New Orleans, San Diego, San Jose, or Reno. He is easy to work with, he talks to me, not down to me as many doctors do, He listens, he is personable and engaging. I fell very comfortable working with him. He promptly returns my email when I have medication or other problems between visits so that I always feel that I can rely on him. I feel that I have a caring partner during my travails. He promptly scheduled me for an appointment when I got out of the hospital recently. I was diagnosed as manic-depressive in 1980 and I've lost count of now many psychiatrists I have had over the years. Certainly more than 10. I've had at least 3 that have retired on me. In fact, I have never gone more than 3 months without see my doctor since 1980. So I have been working with psychiatrists for over 37 years. In fact, I has my first manic attack in 1963 (54 years ago!). I've been in the locked ward 3 and was in therapy many times, usually ending with me being kicked out during a manic attack. He cannot cure me as there is no cure for bipolar, but he guides me and makes life a lot easier for me. So when I say that Dr. Malinas is one of the best I've had, I can comfortably say that from a lot of experience. And I whole heatedly recommend him for care of bipolar. read more

Dr. Malinas himself is a cool guy. Calm demeanor and is well versed. One star because of the rude and careless staff. Same complaints as other reviews. Monica in billing is completely rude and passionless. My insurance became no longer accepted and my bill racked up. I set up a payment arrangement with Linda in billing (who is no longer there) and when I told Monica about my payment arrangement with Linda she told me "yeah.. Linda is no longer with us. She was not helping the company" that is so unprofessional to tell a patient. My biggest problem is the most recent communication I have had with Monica. I had called my pharmacy to have my prescription refilled and was told that I had no refills available and that they had faxed a medication refill request to malina's office multiple times within the prior two weeks and had gotten no response. I called Malinas office to request a refill and the receptionist immediately transferred me to Monica from billing. Monica told me that I have an outstanding balance that needs to be paid and that I need to have an appointment with Malinas in order to get a prescription refill and that I needed to pay $125 of my balance in order to make an appointment. All of this info was shocking news to me. I was in tears on the phone with Monica trying to work out how I can possibly pay for this when all I need is a simple refill for a non narcotic drug. I told her she is weaponizing my medication by making me pay money for an appointment in order to receive a refill. Monica literally let out a quick laugh then suppressed it. I said "did you seriously just laugh at me?" And she said "no it was a deep breath. I'm sorry for taking a deep breath" with the attitude of a middle school catty girl. The whole conversation felt like arguing with a teenager. Her tone of voice is rude and it's almost like she enjoys upsetting people. I ultimately hung up and asked my family members for money to pay the balance online. I then immediately called Malinas office and left a voicemail saying I paid my bill and need a refill on my medication immediately since I was OUT of it (this is a nightly medication for bipolar mind you) I did not receive a call back within a business day as stated in their voicemail. I never got a call back. I had to dig through my emails to find an email directly from Malinas from a year ago that way I could contact him directly for a refill. Malinas called me within an hr and got it filled right away. See, Malinas himself is not the problem. He was quick to help and always has been. I can't believe how unprofessional and disgustingly rude Monica is. After my bill is paid in full I will sadly be looking for another practice which sucks because I like Dr.Malinas. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I have been handling a billing situation for months. I "scheduled" an appointment, radio silence. I never received an email giving me the confirmation or how to attend the appointment. Then I receive a letter in the mail saying I am needing to pay a $175 no show fee. I have NEVER EVER heard of such an expensive no show fee. I have been playing phone tag with Monica, the woman who is in charge of billing. She never called me back except for the one time that she did it was at seven in the morning and I was at work. I have left so many voicemails with the timestamps of when I can talk on the phone because I am a full time student and employee. Monica is never there to answer the phones. I have now paid it and I'm hoping that there are no more issues now following because I just need this over with. So unprofessional and I hope someone can read this before ever having to deal with them. read more

I have picked up my prescription every 29 days since i started here. I take an antidepressant and I also take aderall. I loose focus really easy and the only way i can hold a job is with the help of my prescriptions. This month I told my boss i would be late today because i have to pick up my script. Out of the blue the Dr. Put a hold on my perscription saying that i cant get it till 30 days. So now i have to take another day off tomarrow and go in today without my prescription. I am working with dangerous equipment and have a tendency to not focus and make mistakes that could jeopardize the job or someones life. I have always picked my script up 29 days after the last time i picked it up. Now they say its an early release. Its not an early release 29 days is the legal amount of days by Nevada st law. Now iam in jeopardy of loosing my job and I have kids and people that rely on me. This is not right, you cant do this to people. This could ruin my whole life if i loose my job. They wont give me no exsplanation. They just say its an early release which its not. I got my last script on the 15th today is the 14th. Idk what to do I guess go into work and chop my fingure off or something else because i cant focus. This is not ok something needs to change. These Doctors and pharmacy's can do what ever they want and have no repercussions. These are peoples lifes and a simple decision for them is a life altering change for someone else. Iam going to loose my job and be homeless because of this bullshit. Me going to work without my meds is not an option. So thank you for making me loose my job because you refuse to give me my script 29 days after i got my last script. Your wrong and your ruining peoples lifes.. You cant have someone do the samething every month for months and then all of the sudden just change it without there being drastic consequences. read more

Philip Malinas, MD - Date my prescription was last filled - Psychiatrists Near Me - Reno, Nevada

My minor daughter was seen by Philip Malinas about a year ago for approximately a year. His office staff was completely incompetent when it came to scheduling, billing, etc. I attempted to schedule an appointment for my daughter to start seeing him again since my insurance offers no other pediatric Psychiatrist options. I scheduled an appointment in April and then my daughter was sick so I called and left a message to cancel my appt and call me to reschedule...no response. I left several other messages to reschedule in April and May with no response. It is now October and I called again and they told me I had to pay a $75 no show fee. I explained to them I called and cancelled and I would like to schedule an appt for my daughter and I was told until I paid the no show fee...They would not schedule. I again explained I called and cancelled that appt but they said they did not believe me. I left several messages for Monica...the office manager with no return call. I called again today and argued with Linda in billing and she transferred me to Monica which I was disconnected during transfer. When I called yet again I received voicemail..left a message and FINALLY Monica called back. She was rude and said I would need to pay the fee and my daughter would be considered a new patient so I would have to go thru the evaluation process again. I explained I was not going to pay the fee as I called and cancelled and I would file a complaint with the BBB and others for false charges she agreed to "remove the fee and place a note on the account that we can no longer schedule with this office"...What kind of staff does Dr Mailinas have......so horrible. They appear to care less about their patients and only about a lousy $75 fee. Our appts with dr Mailinas lasted a maximum of 5 minutes each visit and we basically only used him for the prescription our daughter needed as we paid out of pocket for a therapist she felt comfortable with...I am so angry and I would never ever--ever recommend his office! I have also called and asked for Dr Malinas to call me direct which has never happened. I felt like maybe he would interested in how horrible his staff treats the people that pay his wage. Maybe they never forwarded the messages to him. read more

I just had my first appointment with Dr. Malinas in a long time (I had worked w another provider for several months before going back to this doctor) and I wanted to take a moment to update my past review because my experience today was better than I remembered him being in the past. As always, he was succinct and to-the-point. He doesn't waste time or beat around the bush. I was invited in immediately and didn't have to wait to be seen. read more
