Four other contractors assessed and quoted the project. Three quoted much lower (didn't actually address the problem), one higher (included rebuilding the our chimney?). First contact with Illinois Home Improvement/Best Brickmasters was Peter Zieba. His thorough knowledge of brick building structures and Chicago bungalows in particular filled us with confidence. Peter kept in contact daily (or every other day). He was easy to to find him via email or phone - no problems. His crew worked through some of the hottest weather in Aug-Sep 2013. In addition to their collective craftsmanship, they carefully removed and replaced our 6-foot, flower-filled window boxes (heavy and awkward). Our little bungalow is the house of our dreams. We wanted the best care and restoration we could afford. Illinois Home Improvement/Best Brickmasters provided that. Hire them for your project!

LOL I seriously thought it was going to be a huge, costly repair and it wasn't. I highly recommend this roofing company for friendliness, customer service and efficiency. Back in July, I found myself in a very unique and precarious position. I needed to get my roof…read morereplaced having had one roofing company, JE Roofing skip out on me leaving my roof compromised and no other roofing company, by their own admission, had the expertise to get the job done. As it was put to me by another roofer, "honestly no one will be able to replace my roof, they could only offer basic repairs." Repairs, at this point, I knew wasn't going to get it. Eventhough my roof still looked good and during the tear off I would later fine it was still practically new, the wood underneath, the shingles and the underlayment, my roof being over 22 years old, the damage JE Roofing had done already to my roof and whatever damage that may have occurred from their tromping around up there, things were suddenly going wrong with my roof left and right, it just didn't make sense to pay thousands in repairs and then a month later, have something else go wrong. I needed a permanent end to this nightmare. My main problem was, I have neighbors that absolutely refuse to allow any company to enter their property to do work on my property. The fact is my neighbors hate me, in part, because they lost their jobs as police officers because I was a witness in a child abuse case against them. So they wanted to see my home fall apart and become unlivable. Another reality was winter was closing in and I couldn't allow my roof to remain compromised, so I kept searching, calling roofing company after roof company and all I heard was it can't be done if your neighbor doesn't give access to her yard so they can put a ladder to her house in order to do that side of the roof. Then, I came across Paramount roofing. I did my research checking their reviews on every website I could find. Liking, to some degree, what I had read, now September, I called them up and they sent someone out, Mike, to do the estimate. Skeptical I would hear anything different, I told Mike my story and asked if they could do the job. He said yes they could get the job done. I liked what I heard, but I had heard this before. JE Roofing swore up and down they could get the job done, but when they came out to do the job, had tore open my roof and then and only then did they tell me they needed to talk to the neighbor to see if they could get on her side because it would be impossible to finish my roof with such a high pitch and not have a ladder on her side, impossible they reiterated. When the neighbor told them hell no, it wasn't going to happen, these people left me high and dry and just patched the holes in my roof they made with plastic and never came back. Now these people were saying oh yeah, we can get the job done. Really? A few days later, I was visited by two Marcos, yes both of them were named Marco and Mike returned with them. The first Marco was the principal guy and the second Marco was the technical guy, the one to see how was the job going to get done and if it could be done. I told them what I would like to have done, my roof replaced, a concrete patio replaced with the addition of a step down fire pit and some tuck pointing done to my house, among other things. All I heard was yes we can do it. Time to do the work came, like I knew was going to happen, the neighbors came out and threatened the workers trying to get them to stop. They just kept working and singing. Not deterred the neighbors then drop a few flies in the ointment when the monkey in the wrench didn't work. They call the police on the workers as their hanging from the roof. The police come out and I tell you these guys didn't skip a beat, they keep hanging and they keep working. The police get out of their car to speak to the neighbor; she tells her lies about them damaging her property. The police never say anything to the workers for Paramount, because there wasn't any damage done to her property, not only that even the officer commented to her that he barely saw any sign they had dropped anything in her driveway, let alone caused any damage. After this ordeal I felt a camaraderie with these guys. They stuck it out and they didn't abandon me. They took care with my property and honestly did what looked like and what had been an impossible job to give this customer back what I lost, my property was restored to its original beauty. I also took some time before writing this review in case there were any problems. I wanted to see if they were going to stand by their word, but so far so good, I haven't had to call them back out to fix anything and it has been over two months and with the harsh winds and rainstorms we've had thus far it has stood up pretty well. I can only say these guys are truly the Bad Boys of Roofing. They got done what other roofers couldn't under impossible conditions. They stood by their work and they did it with integrity. Just goes to show God always has a ram in the bush!

His men were over this morning and blasted decades of soot, grim, and loose mortar seals from the exterior limestone and entrance ways. Pete and Tom really are masonry experts and you only have to be with them on-site for 1 minute in order to realize that. Whether it is a small tuckpointing job or a complete parapet wall rebuild, they are always Johnny-on-the-spot. In the management business you always have to present your board of directors 3 different quotes for anything you do and Mad Masonry always comes in the least expensive or very close to it. Sometimes my boards are weary about going with the least expensive contractor because they have the mindset that you get what you pay for. In those instances I always push for an on-site meeting with Pete or Tom and 100% of the time Mad Masonry gets the job because they put the board at ease. They do quality work at a fraction of the price of other reliable masonry contractors in Chicago. Their crew is respectful and they work FAST. I readily agreed since at this point everyone I contacted for the stucco did not do chimney cap repair as well. "One stop shopping" was very appealing. Mad Masonry send a crew out and forwarded me a quote. The quote was very detailed and broke out the Stucco repair separate from the chimney cap repair. The stucco repair came in at almost 5X of any other quote I received !!!! I emailed them back and said I'd like to go forward with just the chimney cap repair not the stucco. At this point, I received a phone call from the owner, Peter Ungaro, who informed me that it would now be extra to do just the chimney cap repair... I questioned him on this explaining that he was 5X any other Stucco repair and he said well it was a courtesy that he added the chimney cap repair number and they were really interested in the Stucco repair. This is patently FALSE and BAIT AND SWITCH since the initial request was for chimney cap ALONE. The owner, Peter, now claimed that he would have to put scaffolding up in order to repair the chimney. The initial request included photos so he was very very very aware that scaffolding would be necessary. It is not my fault that he is so far off the mark in terms of price to repair stucco that it would be absurd to use him for that piece of the job. He "generously" offered to send me a new quote for chimney cap repair with scaffolding. BEWARE: THIS COMPANY LIES BEFORE THEY EVEN HAVE THE JOB. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to get them to stand behind their work when THEY DONT HONOR THEIR WRITTEN QUOTE!!! IF it were possible to give them ZERO STARS I would very readily. What is the point in providing a written quote if the BUSINESS OWNER refuses to stand by it. AVOID as it will cost you ....
