Or, more frankly, from…read morea bear to a non-bear? ;) This Indian salon-- my friends have been trying to get in on this so here it is: If there is one thing India prides more than the exquisite cuisine of the land, the lush forests, the stunning palaces, the spectacular fashions: it's the beauty of Indian women. Indian women are so gorgeous! Whether they are young or young-at-heart, there is a grace that shines through. I get inspired and hope to capture a fraction of that Indian beauty, if I can. Yet after quite a few decades on me ;).. I need a bit of help from my salon friends. So I searched far and wide for that perfect Indian salon. Yet I hated the arrogant atmosphere of some of those Indian salons in north NJ/NY. So I avoided them.. and ended up paying a fortune at "nicer expensive" places. The gorgeous Indian NJ girls kindly let me in on their secret of one right here in South Jersey... and this place is an oasis! They do hair, skin, waxing, nails, et all. I hear they even do incredible thermal reconditioning / japanese hair straightening-- at a very low rates. Now that's rare. Moreover, they do it with no hoo-haaa or airs of the other places.. nor do they force your wallet to go on a diet. The prices are so right-- an incredible fraction of those expensive places. Who would have thought a simple little hidden salon in the back of an Indian grocery store would turn up such treasures? It is run by two lovely sisters, Sital and Sonal.. and they are so sweet and talented. It is also nice because if you bring your friend(s) along, they can shop at the Indian botique across of it, do Indian groceries, and can eat in the complex restaurants (i.e Curry Cafe)-- and not get bored waiting for you. So it's an all-in-one place.. nice. I've tried their eyebrow threading numerous times and it's a thumbs up: Eyebrow threading is de-facto Indian beauty treatment -- an ancient art. Eyebrow threading is so much preferable to waxing (much more elegant precision, much faster, no allergies, less pain.. and much more refined-- as the thread is expertly used to create the removal/precision.). All this for a mere $4.00!! And me being a total bear, the sweet girl spent nearly a half hour perfecting it-- whereareas most places start giving you attitude if you want more than 5 minutes (actually threading is fast and takes only about 5 minutes-- so to be fair, spending more than 5 minutes may be a bit too much... but she will do it if you want that). I never get more compliments than after she threads it for me-- I literally get transformed-- and with my years-- that's quite a feat. People say... came back from a vacation...? you look so fresh.. This is not the case when I have it done by others. I went to an expensive spa recently and they all wanted to know where I got my brows done-- even the spa personnel who does eyebrow waxing wanted to know. She's that good.. that sweet.. to take her time to do it right. She listens to what you want. Bring photos (or not) and she will work with you. Just the other day, I needed an elaborate extensive hair service for an event and they were booked for a month. Seeing my dire need, the girls actually rescheduled their hectic schedules, placed me in for the whole day, and will be doing it for me. **Update: The hair turned out incredible. They took all day to do it- they even skipped lunch to finish up. They are SUPER. ** So now you know my secret to being the Dorothy Dandrige - Goddess. :) well.. almost. ;)

She took into consideration my request and threaded my eyebrows exactly how I wanted. For that and the rest of my face, a total of $10. TEN DOLLARS. Some places charge $7-10 for just eyebrows. I called in the morning and was quickly set up for a haircut with Rob. He is AMAZING. He's basically a hair surgeon- he takes time to listen to everything you want and checks in constantly throughout the process to explain what he's doing and make sure you're happy and comfortable. He even showed me how to blow out my hair at home to get the same look. He's a gem and gave me the exact cut I wanted. He knew I was nervous after my bad hair cut and was so patient with me. Before the cut, I asked him about getting some color on some pesky grays I've been getting. He told me he specializes in haircuts but introduced me to Laura who suggested I do a demi-perm on the grays since I have so few. She picked the perfect color and was awesome! So I walked in not knowing what I was going to do or get and left with the best cut I've received in a while and much more confident than when I went in. To top it off, I couldn't believe how reasonable the prices were. It's a really nice Aveda Salon so I was expecting at least $100 for a glaze and hair cut. In no time at all, she had cut the hair on one side of my head above my ear, which was the opposite of what I asked for, as I have a deformed right ear from decades of combat sports competition, and I wanted it concealed. As she had already ruined my hair on one side, I bit my tongue as she made the other side match it. I was absolutely furious, but what can a stylist do once they've taken too much off? Absolutely nothing. Now I am stuck with a haircut where my deformed ear is visible for the whole world to see because the stylist decided to give me that haircut that she wanted to give me instead of the one that I asked for. I paid for my haircut with a card and departed in a polite manner, but the moment I hit the sidewalk, I could no nothing but scream profanity as the realization that I couldn't cover my deformed ear kicked in. Now I am not only out $18, but I am stuck with a haircut which leaves me open to yet more questions along the lines of "What's wrong with your ear?" [Edit, I called the place and she offered me a refund, but this doesn't undo the damage she did to my personal appearance. I'll take the refund, but this review stands.] I grew the sides of my hair longer specifically to hide that ear, and the stylist decided that she knew better than me where my haircut was concerned, and forced her personal preferences onto my head. That stylist is very fortunate that I have superior control over my temper, because she has left me feeling disfigured with the haircut she gave me, and now that I'm home and trying to style this mess, I see that she couldn't even manage to trim my bangs straight, and the hair on one side is not symmetrical with the hair on the other side. With the mess she left me with, with my deformed ear exposed, I might just shave my head instead of putting up with this terrible thing she did to my head. I am so humiliated that I don't even want to be seen in public looking like this. I went in feeling good about myself and looking forward to the haircut I asked for, and I left with my self-esteem in the gutter. I get upset every time I catch my refection and see what she did to my appearance. I can't go out looking like this. In short, she was absolutely incompetent & unprofessional in providing a haircut according to the very simple instructions I gave her. She shouldn't be permitted to cut hair, and if she has a state license for cutting hair, it should be revoked. The only reason she's getting one star is because I can't give her zero stars. Attached to this review, you'll see two photos detailing how she couldn't even manage to cut my hair evenly. I could have gotten a better cut from a landscaper with a weed-whacker. There is absolutely no excuse for this, and no apology or refund can do undo the damage. I'll have to wear a hat until my hair covers my deformed ear again. Thanks to a stylist who doesn't listen, I get to wear a hat to cover my deformed ear now. As a craftsman and a business owner, I can tell you that this is not how a professional renders a service to a client. **Update** I spoke with the stylist on the phone a short time ago about the refund she told me she would give me, and instead of telling me when I could come down & get it, she began making all manner of excuses as to why she shouldn't refund my money. This is the kind of experience you can expect to have with this hair stylist: first she will ruin your hair, then she will justify her poor work and back-peddle out of any refund she's already offered you. I should have looked at the other 1-Star reviews of this place, because it seems that those people all had a very similar experience to mine. As a small business owner myself, I'm very enthusiastic about supporting small businesses, but not if they're run by incompetent, unprofessional people who refuse to accept accountability for the damage they do, or offer fair compensation in return for those damages.

I said something numerous times and every time she tried to rectify it, it got worse. We left extremely upset and had to desperately find someone to help repair the damage that was done. 4 separate salons were shocked at what was done and saddened to see that an additional 4 inches needed to be cut to try and salvage her hair. It was supposed to be cut just below her bust and is now between her shoulders and chest area. Her hair was to her belly initially.
