The doc is great but getting anything done with the office manager is horrid. Very unhelpful and condescending to me when I had questions. He treated me like I was stupid. Couldn't get meds renewed, dispensed wrong dose on meds. Can't get any results from X-rays and testing. Very frustrating and as a result I have a new PCP. You have to haggle her to get a referral. both the doctor and a nurse injured me badly getting blood leaving marks for a month, tearing up my vein like lunatics. place smells and is visibly dirty. I had gone for years to this place from when I was a child to my early 20s. I am glad to say that I am 100% okay with the fact that I will never come back here again. Their quality of service and care for their patients have declined drastically since compared to the early 2000s. It seems the original doctor has lost their passion and drive to care for patients and only has a drive for money. She also goes on a lot of vacations, leaving Vietnamese speaking patients without help when there are no Viet translators available. I'm sad to say that the only decent doctor with compassion left is maybe Dr. Bang and this one other nurse (who might have moved to another job). There is one nurse (Linda) who is very rude. She always sounds like she doesn't want to be there and is extremely moody on the phone. She will rush you to make appointments and belittles you for just asking for clarification. Your whole day will turn sour because of her. I suggest either removing her from interacting with patients or fix her insensitivity. There is no place for someone rude and doesn't seem to care about patients. To add, I feel bad for the Vietnamese community (especially elders) who have no choice but to come here because of communication and understanding in language. Staff and doctors can be dismissive when diagnosing or helping you get referred to a decent doctor for specific medical needs. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. The receptionists (especially Linda) don't speak English nearly well enough, they are very rude (speaking louder does not make your English better if just makes you come off more rude). We put in a complaint with our insurance provider about the staff, and the Dr. Bahng responded basically calling us liars. My father is a nice, elderly man and does not deserve to be called a liar from a Dr. and an office he had no issues with before the staff had treated him so poorly. As I've seen that this not the first time a complaint has been written about the staff, maybe you should re-evaluate the professionalism of the entire office. The staff is very rude. I don't know her name but I know that is Vietnamese staff. I called to ask the doctor to refill my medicine. The staff told me to call Walmart to require a refill medicine request and waited for doctor to send prescription. I followed all the instruction they asked for. Definitely avoid this office all together. The receptionist is so unprofessional and rude. They obviously do not care about their patients. My mom has called them for multiple reasons and they've always been short with her and they've never known how to answer any of the simplest questions. She needed a referral to see an eye doctor and the doctor did not give her one, saying that she didn't need one even though she has cataracts. My mom has stopped coming here and she has gotten much better care from the doctor's at Kaiser. I've even told her that I felt like I had nerve damage because my hands go numb her only response "it's okay, you're still young". wtf does that even mean? are you not gonna check? Stay away! It's unfortunate that the Vietnamese community who go to this doctor will not see this, but if your older family goes to this doctor PLEASE take them somewhere else. You may save their life. Dr Phan told my aunt for years that her severe pain was just old age. It wasn't until an emergency room visit lead to finding long term colon cancer. Dr Phan insisted that the others doctors were wrong and that everything was fine. We lost our aunt two months later because this lazy doctor never bothered to run tests or refer her to a doctor that could look deeper. Even during the last month of her lifer, the lady at the front (Linda) tried pressuring my aunt to ignore 'the American doctors.' It's absolutely horrifying that people like this are still in business. read more

It is by far the worst place I have ever gone too, when I was there they told me to always take Tylenol when I'm sick, but it made it worst so we decided to go to northridge hospital to treat my sickness. The hospital said that we should change to a different doctor because apparently this place doesn't know how to treat people. So I highly recommend going to Facey or a different place to treat you when your sick, because this place is by far the worst place I have ever gone to in America! read more

Update: I'm scheduling an appointment with a new doctor for an annual physical and the receptionist confirmed that I DO NOT have a copay for preventative visits like annual physicals. I double-checked with my insurance card and the new doctor's office is RIGHT! For the last 3 years, I've been robbed of $20 for coming in for my annual physicals because that same ASIAN NURSE forced me pay before I could even see Dr. Phan. I recommend checking with your insurance card and make sure they don't rob you! My husband's family has gone here all their life and I've gone to Dr. Mai Phan for the past 3 years, too. Dr. Phan is sweet and often times when her receptionist and nurse OVER-CHARGES me, she makes them give me a refund after she diagnosis me. However, dealing with her front desk Vietnamese nurse has become a NIGHTMARE that I'm moving to another doctor. The Spanish nurse is great and helpful but the Vietnamese one is a liar and thief. I came in last Saturday to speak to Dr. Mai Phan about prenatal vitamins, so it's just a simple office visit. However, when I got there the nurse told me I had to pay $250 deductible BEFORE I can even see the doctor. I said that's not right, it's only a $20 co-pay for an office visit. She hands me a copy of my insurance card (which says the same thing) and a print-out of my eligibility & benefits summary that the office pulled up. She points to the deductible amount and says I needed to pay $250 or call my insurance. We argued for about 10 mins and I called my husband to consult with him on the matter. Eventually, I refused to pay and left. I called up Blue Cross Blue Shield first thing Monday morning and spoke with Mary at 8:15AM. I told Mary my dilemma and what transpired on Saturday. Mary called up the office and spoke with the same nurse. That nurse LIED to Mary by saying, "Oh, I didn't fully understand the situation. I only asked her to $45". Mary said my co-pay was only $20 for an office visit, so if the office asks me to pay more that THEY NEED to call the insurance, not me, and that I should ask to speak to their MANAGER, Michael . To conclude: Dr. Mai Phan is okie, but the office and staff are ATROCIOUS! The wait is ridiculously long, even with an appointment I'm waiting over an hour. Without an appointment expect to wait over 2 hours. The receptionist are unqualified to work there--they're family--and believes whatever the nurse says. The ASIAN nurse is a THIEF and LIAR. That receptionist was extremely rude when all I asked for was a copy of the paperwork that I had just turned in from the hospital that gave it to me, in order to have the address to the specialist. She started to call me impolite, stupid, and rude for just asking to get a copy of the paperwork back. She was saying that I had already gotten the paperwork back and that since I've already seen the doctor, that its too late and I can not go back in. I'm speaking on behalf of my mom. She has been repetitively counghing that has been going on for couple years and she visited Dr. Mai's office. However, there were no effective treatments or tests were given. By that I mean, she only gave my mom some medications which never help and refer my mom to another health care provider for blood sample. That's it. I'm done my own research and I'm afraid of something went wrong with her lung that she needs an xray or something similar to it. I'm gonna talk to her and convince her to switch doctor. It seems to me Dr. Mai just wants the money from Government and doesn't really care about her patients. Go to different doctor if you really concern about your health. read more

My PPO insurance just referred me to Dr. Phan. This practice is busy but the front office staff treated me well and valued my time, especially the girl named Kim and the guy named Wayne. The back office assistant Isela who took my vitals was very polite and friendly. There are two doctors at this location. Both are excellent doctors. My issue was quickly resolved and now I am in perfect health. Thank you doctors! read more

I would give this doctor zero stars if it was possible. The Dr. is very rude and speaks to her patients in a very condescending tone. Both the Dr. and staff are extremely unprofessional and incompetent. Today, I went in asking the doctor for a referral and she completely lost her temper. She was yelling at me and the whole waiting could hear. I was so shocked but I stayed calm and tried to speak to her in a professional manner as a patient who was concerned for her health. She disregarded what I had to say and continued screaming at me. Never in my life have I experienced such unprofessional behavior from a Dr. I left in a rush and then her husband started harassing me in the waiting room full of patients. I do not understand why her husband felt the need to interfere in confidential matters between the doctor and I. I was mortified and I feel so abused. In addition, before I left she handed me the wrong patients medical copy. This is how unorganized the staff and the Dr. are. I suggest that if do not know Vietnamese, you should stay away from this place. The doctor has a difficult time understanding English and she responds back in broken English. Not to mention, the office is very unclean and has a pungent odor. Another thing that concerned me is that there is no form of patient privacy here. The incompetent staff yells across the waiting room asking about my weight and why I am here. A lot of the complaints for this Doctor are aimed at the staff, but I am here to specifically discuss the absolute disregard Dr. MAI PHAN displayed towards a young friend of mine just yesterday. A young 23 year old virgin made an appointment for a medical examination. She was not told that a pap smear was part of the process. She arrived at the clinic, and NOT ONCE was she given a questionnaire about her medical health, no nurse asked her any questions, etc.. Once she was in the examination room with Dr. Phan, the only question Dr. Phan asked my friend was "Do you have a husband?". Seriously, when did that become the protocol in any office! My young friend responded with a no, and se proceeded to give her a very painful pap smear, and completely traumatized her. Worst of all, she has been bleeding from the entire ordeal. We are in process of writing a malpractice letter to the Medical Board Association. Even the front receptionist agreed with my friend's trauma, and we have yet to speak with the "Office Manager" in the clinic. We have called three times. This is the kind of thing you would expect in a third world country clinic--but not in the US. Where did Dr. Phan get her medical degree from? where is the sympathy and care that a Doctor should portray to all of her patients? This kind of disregard for this young patient should NEVER be tolerated. I am shocked that this Dr. is in business just by reading of all these complaints. Please do all yourselves a favor, and AVOID this office, and doctor like the plague. read more

I don't like to leave any bad reviews, but today, when I called the office to inquire if I could use my insurance, it's not only that she did not let me finish my sentence, but she kept insisting that she cannot answer any questions until I bring in my card to show it. After that she just simply told me that she can't be on the line for too long and asked me to hang up. OMG I cannot believe this. I read these two reviews on Dr Mai Phan and thought to myself they couldnt be that bad. Let me tell you they were. Absolutely disgraceful rude receptionists and Dr all of them slovenly dressed and no privacy they were all just yelling out everyones personal business. I was so traumatized by what I read up on this Dr that while making an appointment I told the woman that I was scared after reading these bad reviews and could she please give me some kind of reassurance that its not that bad. She did not do that she said everyone is entitled to their opinions. I said well that doesnt make me feel very hopeful. I then said have you read the reviews and she said NO and I told her she should. I wasted a month to get in and finally was going to get a full medical my card had not arrived through LA care with this Dr name on it. I had called them three times and was told to get the Dr"s office to call to verify. When I told the receptionist this she yells out saying oh we dont call like they were the big exception to the rule. LA Care have said there was a big back log with getting out the new ID cards, there were several other people calling saying the same thing as me and being told it was the doctors policy. I just wanted to get it over and done with but obviously the universe didnt allow that to even happen.............maybe lucky for me. I was only there 15 minutes enough time to work out this is not a Dr you wish to go to unless your vietnamese. The dr appearance was appalling she was dressed in sloppy clothes, no makeup grey roots showing at the back of her very untidy hair. If a place desperately ever needed ZERO stars.. this is the place! So unprofessional and wastes your time. Dr. Mai Phan sent over the medication list to the pharmacy to be filled but there was a complication where the pharmacist needed confirmation from the doctor but she refused to get back to the pharmacist. Her receptionists then lied to us telling us different stories such as the pharmacist refused to fill the prescription (not knowing that the pharmacist themself told me they were trying to contact her to get confirmation) and when they were called out on it, they blamed the pharmacist saying that the pharmacist was lying and never called them. Another receptionist told us that the doctor didn't want to confirm the medication because they were worried that my grandma should not be taking that medication because of her age, even though my grandma has been taking that medication for a while now. So if you didn't want her to take it, why would you fax over the list of medication to the pharmacist? And the third lie was when they said that the insurance wouldn't cover it, when the plan hasn't changed at all and they have been covering it. If you can, switch your doctor. I'm honestly worried that other patients that come here don't get the actual care that they deserve. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR! I just reported this office to my Insurance company. Worse experience ever! I waited a month for an appt and was out of my blood pressure medication. The staff was rude over the phone but this was my PCP near my home so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. When I finally went to my appt I was treated horribly. The staff was so rude and condescending and extremely unprofessional. The office was dirty and as unpleasant as the staff. I felt discriminated against. They wouldn't see me because my Insurance card hadn't come in but I had all the information for them. They dismissed me and refused to get the office manager for me to speak with. Doctor Pham is very polite and is always ready to help with everything. The other woman that is working in the office is nice, except her. As a registered nurse and someone actively working in the medical field, I was extremely disappointed in the service that I received at this doctors office. As I sat in the waiting room, the receptionist yelled out "Why are you here, what is your complaint, do you want a pap smear while you are here". Seriously? Ever heard of Hippa?? Four other people were waiting in the room listening to my private issues being publicized by some lady behind the counter who clearly knows nothing about basic human privacy rights. That was just the beginning. They than proceeded to tell me (from the waiting room) that I would need to give a urine sample before proceeding...once again, did that really need to be announced to the entire waiting room? Fine. So I go to the back with the little cup and notice the bathroom has no seat covers (not even a case for seat covers, meaning they don't even USE them), second, no paper towels to even hold the urine specimen. I'm sorry for being so personal here but once again, are you serious? How disgusting. Aside for the grim and filth building up in every minuscule part of that restroom, I was mortified that I had to touch the door knob itself, while carrying my own urine. Disgusting. Once I finally had the pleasure of meeting this doctor, who didn't even look me in the eye, shake my hand, or even introduce herself...she started asking my complaints. I told her I had a few issues (nothing at all life threatening, mostly needed referrals), she didn't touch me, didn't even take the correct blood pressure (yeah, I was watching, she rounded up), and literally spend 2.5 minutes with me before pushing me out of the room. WOW. That was an experience I did not enjoy, did not appreciate, and definitely will not experience again. I'm currently debating whether to call the California Health Department on them... let me tell you this...I am not a mighty fan of Dr. Mai T Phan. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! This doctor deserves ZERO stars. The staff is incredibly rude. If you aren't Vietnamese, good luck getting the staff to even acknowledge you. They take Vietnamese patients right away and are very friendly to them. The waiting room is a 6x6 room with over 20 sick people in it coughing and sniffling. I had to wait over an hour and a half for my appointment, when I went to the counter to see how much longer I would have to wait the doctor literally yelled at me and told me I couldn't stand near the counter and told me to get out of her way and to "get" to the waiting area "now!" I couldn't even believe how she spoke to me. This doctor should not be allowed to practice medicine in the United States on humans, she doesn't act like a human and doesn't know how to talk to or treat humans. read more

I wish I could know where to make a complain about the intergrty and qualifications of this doctor. First she doesn't know what she is telling her patients about their health concerns. It always "Well I am not sure. Let's try this medication to see if it works or not we can try the others". Are you serious? Sounds more like a street doctor than someone has a doctor degree. Her office is so disgusting dirty. The nurses, for God's sake they are like some random people that got picked up on the street and hired without any training. They talk to you like you are not as "a high level of human" as them. Anytime you call to ask about your test result the answer is always "Not here yet" then hung up.
