I've been here plenty of times, shopping for fish supplies, lizard food and dog toys and for getting my dogs nails cut. Always greeted when I walk in which is nice. Sometimes it's hard to find the fish lady but all you gotta do is wave someone down. The dog grooming department is great. I've had all great experiences. They love animals and accommodate whatever is needed. My medium/large sized dogs are slightly neurotic and hyperactive but they always handle them with care. I recommend this place and also don't forget to tip!! read more

To all that know me, know my dog means everything to me and I would do everything for her. Today I took my dog to the PetSmart (Tacoma, WA) right off of Union to get her nails clipped. As I stood there waiting for my pup I saw this "groomist" falling asleep while cutting this other dogs hair. I've seen a lot in my lifetime and I know what a person on drugs looks like and she definitely was coming off whatever she did. So as I stood there she woke up enough to grab the nail clippers and was about to cut this dogs tail! Right when I saw this I yelled out "What are you doing!? Why the fuck are you about to cut the tail with nail clippers?! Why are you falling asleep!!" The other groomist looked at me like WTF. I WAS PISSED OFF, I STILL AM. If my pup was in this person's hands, I don't know what I would of done. All she says is "I'm tired." Yea I know why you are. I ask to speak to the manager and this other woman says she's the manager and does nothing, just standing there not knowing what to do. I ask to speak to the store manager and this younger, taller guy comes in. I tell him what happened and then I walked out with my pup. Not but two minutes later I see him walk out and she's back to grooming. I bring this to everyone's attention who love their animals who happen to their pets to this location for grooming. BE CAREFUL. As for my pup and I, we won't be going there ever again. PetSmart I REALLY HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS SERIOUS AND TAKE SOME ACTION. read more

My first few trips there were great and I was really happy to find something close to my house where I could run to for toys, treats, leashes, etc.. I spoke with a few employees about training my new black lab and what would work best and they were great! The nice streak had ended and all the nice employees that were there before had suddenly disappeared and were replaced with grumpy teenagers. They were no help at all when I had questions and simply brushed me off when I would walk through the door. I will make the trip to Lakewood from now on if I want something. read more

Went in on Sunday afternoon to buy a parakeet. Asked the cashier 3 times if someone could please come over and help us. We were told they would get someone over to help us when they were available. After being in your store for a half an hour we decided to take our business elsewhere. As we walked by the check out desk 2 of your employees were standing there not helping anyone just chatting. I understand that maybe they were not qualified to deal with the birds but they could have at least have come over to tell us they were short handed or whatever. I suggest that your company work on customer service read more

I bought three long tail tetra glow fish from the store yesterday. To add to my tank that was already established and prepared to take them. After all the acclimating and everything they were added to my tank and went to bed. When I woke up in the morning 2 of the fish were dead and floating at the top of my tank and upon turning on the light I realize that the third fish had really really bad fin rot and red Gill. They sold me three sick fish and infected my whole tank. And now when I call the store no one picks up the phone. read more

We've taken our puppy here for baths a few times and never had a problem. I always have them clip his nails so they don't get too short. He comes back happy and clean and somehow they even get rid of the "wet dog even when dry" smell! Since he has long fur I have them trim his butt floof and it was super cute (I was worried too much would be taken off). We look forward to bringing him in again. Also-I took him to an actual groomers and asked for a quote; $30+! Petsmart does the same for $10. It's just fine as a booster to baths at home. read more

I'm revising my review because they made it right: I had taken my pup to them and they did a terrible job washing him, and then they gave me a massive guilt trip about not cleaning his ears well enough :/ After about a year I called back and talked with the manager Tony, who asked me to come back in. When I got my pup back he was clean and they gave him a good report card. Good job! read more

The first time I went to the Tacoma Pet Smart the staff in the fish department was nice. The second time, the whole tone was different. Even in the fish department I saw a cichlid that was in the corner and looked sick...I pointed it out...and the gal said...well we will keep an eye on it. Yea - I am sure you will. When I began asking questions about a 125 gallon tank - Larry (a manager or asst manager) was super cold, unfriendly, unhelpful and acted as if any of my questions, as a customer, were just an inconvenience. He wore a frown and refused to smile at all and gave me the cold shoulder, barely answering. I won't go there again and certainly will not spend my money there. It's so disappointing. read more

Went in at 7pm the lady at the fish area that I had to wait for 3min advise me that they stopped selling fish at 7.... had a basked with me because of all the fish and things I was planning to buy to set up my 20 gallon tank, upset but courteous left my basket on the first table next to me. The white blonde lady on the front of the store loudly complained that I had left my basket in the wrong place. This is just bad customer service. I work on the vet industry and I refer too many people to this store that I will never do again. I understand company policy you stop selling fish at 7 you stop selling fish at 7. Don't be rude. Also this store was empty dead if I were their manager I would not be turning big sales away. Today I went to Petsmart to pick up some things for my pond- what I needed was expired, so I didn't purchase, but that wasn't the problem. As I was asked if there was anything else they could help me with I said, yes, I would like this blue oranda goldfish.......I had purchased one a few weeks prior and wanted another one. She proceeded to ask me many questions about where the fish would be kept? , which really was none of her business, but I answered.....She proceeded to tell me she WOULD NOT Sell me the fish. I said your kiddin right? She said no, I am looking out for the welfare of the fish and you cannot keep 2 goldfish in a 10 gallon tank!! I am very experienced with fish and a true animal lover and take extremely good care of all my animals, big or small. I am 55 years old and I think I have fish older than this salesperson in my pond!! This experience has left me upset and truly flabbergasted by the awful customer service and actions delivered by their employees. My question is - WHO'S LOOKING OUT FOR THE WELFARE OF THE FEEDER GOLDFISH????!!!!!! Certainly not Petsmart!!! Sounds Ridiculous , right ? Yes, just as ridiculous as that employee in the fish Dept. Who wouldn't sell me a goldfish. I've been a longtime customer, but not anymore. Truly Disappointed read more

I am encouraging people to avoid any dealings with PetSmart (Tacoma, WA). I want to be clear, I have no ill feelings towards the trainer there, mostly angry with whichever boss directed her in kicking my dog out of obedience classes, and the delicate souls that couldn't address their concern about my dog to my face. Soooo, I showed up for intermediate obedience school with Gideon this evening, and was informed that Gideon had been kicked out of the class for barking, no warning, 2 sessions left in the program. Apparently, last week, when Gideon and I were gone because I was sick, a number of people from the class complained to the trainer's boss that my dog barks, and the manager told the trainer to kick Gideon out. Gideon does bark a lot in class during the instructions, but last time I brought his Kong, and it was a little better; today I was going to try the Kong and him in his Thundershirt; I had yet to try the citronella collar, because other dogs bark, and that would have set off his collar to not fault of his own, but I would have used it if I had any warning of an expulsion. No one ever complained to my face, I was never warned that he might get kicked out. I think it's absurd that I was taking my dog to a class to teach good behavior and he was kicked out for a behavior issue, one that I was NEVER given any pointers for correcting, and was working on my own. There have been dogs in the beginners class and this intermediate class that are aggressive towards other dogs that I didn't complain about because THEY WERE THERE TO CORRECT THAT BEHAVIOR, Gideon deserved the same opportunity. The trainer, to her credit, offered to finish the course with one on ones, but Gideon learns commands fast - if all I wanted was intimate training sessions, I could use YouTube. It's something I'll have to ponder, but I am done buying anything there, I won't use their grooming service again, and I am not going through with my plan to switch to Banfield. Why use a business that has a problem with young dogs acting like dogs? read more

Took my dogs in for a simple nail clipping... never ever again. I got there and the entry is so small I had to wait about 10 minutes for it to clear. They were discussing grooming of a large, older fuzzy who took up the entire tiny space. But that was ok. I could wait, the isle outside the entry is fish stuff, so pretty safe and quiet. So we waited. When the staff leashed the old dog and took him back, I brought mine in... It was loud, and hot, and busy. But ok, not an issue. Still moving forward. Then the woman helping us began asking for more and more info. Ridiculous as it had no bearing. I brought in the rabies certs, which is all they needed. But no, she wanted my name, address, phone, email, everything. As we are going through this, another staff comes and takes my little dog back for trimming. Midway through, my dog shrieks. I think the woman hit flesh, not nail. Then, to my horror, the old dog who came in ahead of us for grooming falls off the table he was on and is hanging by his neck! And the woman working on him acts like the dog was at fault and was all annoyed as she put him on the floor. I get the one dog back, and (by now against my better judgement) they take my old guy. I remind her twice that he is severely arthritic and she just smiles as she wrenches his legs and actually crawls on the table with him. By the time she finishes, he is teetering on the edge of the table, and about to fall like the other dog did. I get they were super busy, but that was just about the most horrible experience my dogs have endured, and they have flown across the Atlantic! I am never taking my dogs back again. Ever. And if you love yours... I say find a better groomer. They are out there. They may cost a bit more, but well worth it. I will have my vet office trim nails from now on. read more

I am not one to complain about service, but Petsmart groomers physically harmed my dog so I will say something. I paid $70 for my dog to get bathed and groomed here. When I came home, my dog was clearly traumatized and completely not herself. It was clear right when they gave my dog back to me that her haircut was extremely uneven and choppy, but they did cut her short and get rid or her mats so I let the unevenness go. However, upon closer inspection and observing my dogs irritation and upset, I noticed a large clipper burn/cut running along the length of her rear end. Besides this large clipper cut/burn on her behind, they also nicked her leg. I had to get aloe Vera gel to treat these wounds caused by the groomer to avoid infection and a vet bill. It has been 5 days now and my dog is still bothered by these wounds. I am extremely unhappy and will never be going back to this establishment to get my dog groomed. I only chose Petsmart because I thought they honored appointment times, but I was incorrect in my thinking and instead the dogs sit for 3-4 hours in a cage until they are groomed. Forgetting the completely uneven and messed up haircut they gave my dog, the Petsmart groomer physically hurt her and did not inform me of their mistakes. I understand mistakes happen, but my dog has multiple (quite large) clipper injuries and the groomers did not acknowledge their mistakes and instead allowed me to pay $70 for scraping up my dog. Go somewhere else to get your dog groomed because Petsmart groomers will do a completely unsatisfactory and unprofessional job and you risk injury to your dog here. read more

A few of the staff are absolutely wonderful. They are eager, helpful and quick to get involved and help you out. If they aren't there, however... Because only they can access the fish, apparently. I gave up and went home. read more

Before I go in I check TJ Max and Target across the parking lot to get poop bags and toys and beds and cute things. Then I go to Petsmart to by necessities and be condescended to. See, I multitask 'cause I'm awesome like that. I'll go in for a specific item and if an employee sees me in the isle I get told about the more expensive, more pink item next to it. (I'm female and have a small dog) or I'm looking at filters and they try to upsell me. Or I'm looking at fish and we play 20 questions while the attempt to suss out whether I know how to take proper care of them. (I am young). The absolute best though is when I'm there with my dog in his muzzle and the idiot trainer comes over and starts trying to pet him while telling me why muzzles are inhumane. And also that in her class he would become more socialized. Then she tries to prove he needs a basic class by making him sit. ( the idea is if he doesn't sit he needs the class, I guess) my dog doesn't listen to strangers. He won't even look at them if his muzzle is on because when he can't bite to defend himself he tries to avoid his problems. After 5 minutes she asks me to take the muzzle off so she can bribe him with a treat and I do (at this point I want to punch her and don't care if she gets bit). Little buddy doesn't take food from strangers. After 20 minutes she concludes he needs classes. In a fit of passive aggress vindictive pleasure I snapped my fingers without looking away from her and he sat. Hey Petco, how about the next time a 5ft 20yo girl with a little dog enters the store you don't have sexist, condescending, and frankly stupid employees on the floors. I'm small I'm young I'm a girl I DO know what brand of filter I'm buying the cartridge for I DONT needs a new filter or the cartridges you purchase separately yes I am sure he needs the muzzle YES he will bite if you touch him and his basic obedience is excellent he just doesn't like you you idiot. read more

This place is about as useless as tits on a boar. Lots of people standing around, but no help when needed. I walked in and two of the associates were having an absolutely lovely chat. It's been about 10 years since I've been in to a Petsmart. I remember them being, well, kind of sad. Nothing wrong, per se, but just sad. I have to say, then, that I was pleasantly surprised at the Tacoma location. It was bright, clean, and absolutely packed (in a good way) with supplies. We were stopping by for a little pet store recon, so we weren't looking to buy, but we did see a number of things that are going onto our list of things to potentially get that we haven't seen elsewhere. We were asked a number of times if we needed any help, but nobody was pushy or bothersome. To make it better, they also had a nice selection of pet-related goodies in the front (cards, decorations, gifts, etc.). I'm a little sad that it's on the other side of the bridge, but I'll definitely make a point to stop in when I'm in need of supplies in the future. read more

PetSmart always exhibits professional service and they do a thorough job. My dog does not like being handled (it's a breed thing) and other groomers have complained that "it took three of us to hold him down." Also, "I had to muzzle your dog because he was fighting me." At PetSmart they know how to handle sensitive animals and they know how to keep the animal calm. He is relaxed and calm when I pick him up. These are people that I can trust. Also, my dog looks so handsome when they bring him out to me! read more

Never again! Did the complete opposite of what they were supposed to do. Her hair was not cut evenly either!

DON'T ORDER ONLINE! I spend about $200/month at PetSmart mostly because my daughters bequeathed us with 5 cats and the only cat litter that seems to be able to cope is the Blue Mountain. So I try to get any sale I can, and when there was a 30% off sales on the web I jumped at it. 2 days ago I ordered on the web and got an email that it was ready to be picked up. I had to go to Lakewood as the big bags of litter must have been out of stock. So I show up in Lakewood and was given about half my order. I argued that there must be more as I paid $159 and thats a little much for 5 12 lb bags of litter, I was handed a piece of paper and a customer service number and told to call (apparently, someone who gives a fuk). Not one offer of assistance. I go the distinct feeling that I was not being believed even though I showed my order on my phone. So I go out to my car to call customer service, who puts me on hold several times, and says she doesn't know what is going on as she can see my cc payment but cant find the order number the Lakewood store gave me. So I go back inside, now with the PetSmart customer service person on speakerphone. This time I ask to see the manager and so now there are three of us and one person on the phone. After 10 minutes on the phone with her on speakerphone and us standing in the front, she finds out that they sent half of the order to the Tacoma store. No email, or communication, just confusion. So finally today, I drove over to the Tacoma store and had to laugh (which I can do today...yesterday I was pissed), when I saw a sign in their isle that read "save time in line, order on-line". DO NOT DO THIS!. At the end of the my my meager savings cost me over two hours of my time. I got an apology, but I should have gotten something for free, given much as I spend here a month, and the third degree that I got at the Lakewood store. read more

Nikol was such a great help! She saw us right away and was more than patient. They can either clip or grind pets claws here. Thanks for such great service! The store is great; most of the store staffs are nice and friendly, and they have good selection of all kinds of pets need. We just took our dog to groom for the first time here. They did a OK job on cutting, but what I didn't like about is that our dog came back with tons of clipped hair all over her body... Of course that made me super itchy (just like when you get a haircut and if they don't clean your clipped hair off cleanly, you get itchy...). So I had to go home and change my cloth, then bath her immediately to get rid of those clipped hairs. Other places we took her before, we didn't have this issue, so we are going back to the other place (it's bit far, but I guess it's worth it for not have to bath her after grooming...) I wish they clean clipped hairs off better... read more

Unfortunately at the prompting of the store leader at Petsmart Naomi Barlow I have decided to end my close to eight year relationship with Petsmart and the groomers Tina and Johnna, who are the only two that I will allow my pet to be groomed by. Please see email that I received from Naomi Barlow in regards to my concerns with other groomers that I have personal witnessed be unkind to pets. I reached out to her for the number for the corporate office to file a complaint, and was told by Naomi "I will give you the number when you calm down" When I told her your customer service skills needed to be worked on she told me "My customer service is great" and then hung up on me...is that great customer service? Well needless to say I did file a complaint with corporate. Rather they do something or not is on them, but everyone is accountable for their actions and if they will not hold Naomi Barlow accountable, someone much greater than us will. Email from Naomi Barlow: Thank you so much for taking the time to complete our survey and provide feedback about your most recent visit to our store. I am sorry to hear that you weren't satisfied with your experience and, as the Store leader, I apologize for the disappointment we caused when didn't meet your expectations. As a company whose vision is to be the trusted partner to pet parents and pets, our goal is to create the best experience possible for valued pet parents like you and we know we missed the mark. Based on your feedback over the past several visits, I will have another coaching conversation with Tina, our salon manager and explain the expectations of the salon for our customers. This is disturbing if you can't trust our groomers and based on your previous visits to our salon and noticing this is now the THIRD time in your disappointment you have had. I wonder if it would better for you and your Romy to find another salon to fulfill your needs as we are not able to gain your trust and loyalty I will discuss this with Tina today and have her reach out to you with other recommendations on Salons in our area. Again, we appreciate you sharing your feedback with us and giving us the opportunity to improve. We hope to see you and again soon. I went yesterday afternoon to look at fish for my 5 gal. Was just looking for something like a guppy or a molly. Something simple and not too big. The woman approached me and her first question was what size tank do you have. I told her and she said unfortunately none of these options are going to work for you because they need 10 gallons or above (which is completely false, as they have many variety including 25 cent FEEDER FISH.) I just said OK and took my business somewhere else because that's ridiculous. I understand wanting to be sure that every animal has the correct living environment, but there was literal snails and feeder fish and many other options that would've worked for me. She came at me super aggressively and I don't appreciate that at all. I will not be shopping here again, and after speaking with the manager she didn't even seem to understand my concern with how aggressively she came at me when the 3.5 gallon tanks in Petsmart literally advertise multiple fish that get over 1 inch on the box. Not that I'm going to take the advice that the picture shows me, but I literally was just looking for a new fish for my 3.5 which I literally only have one fish in currently. Don't treat it like animal cruelty if you don't know the home situation. I went right to Petco , and was able to get three of the fish I wanted without ONCE being asked about my tank sizing. And all the fish were put in the same bag despite the"rumors" that one will eat the other they made it home happier than they would ever be in that store , and alive. So thank you , but that's ridiculous. They're $2 fish ! read more
