I would like to preface this review by explaining that my husband and I have been going to PetSmart for decades. In 2011, we adopted our beloved cat Ting, and in 2014 we adopted our beautiful Husky Tikka from one of the rescues working with PetSmart in El Segundo. Since then, we have been taking Tikka to be groomed periodically. As you can see from the photos, she's a beautiful, fluffy Siberian Husky. Up until last year we were happy with the groomers at the PetSmart locations frequent. We had one minor issue with a groomer that did not tend to our dog at all, she was sent home not groomed. They had problems with all of the dogs that this one groomer saw. The groomer was let go and the customers were taken care of by the Culver City PetSmart. We have also been growing to the PetSmart in Palm Springs, and we have always had a good experience. Sadly, today we had a horrible experience with the groomer and the Manager. I dropped off my dog at 8:00 AM and was told my dog would be done in 2 1/2 hours, the usual timeframe. I also explained that she had been groomed over a month ago and they tended to her winter coat (early because of the weather), and as always, I added 15 minutes of extra brushing and Oatmeal shampoo. One of the groomers suggested using a fumenator, and both my Husband and I exclaimed NO! You do not use furnimators on Huskys, it damages their coat and they shed the small cut hairs everywhere. That suggestion flew up a red flag for me, but I let it go because we've never had a bad experience at this PetSmart. At 10:30 we did not receive a call as expected, so I called at 11:00. They told me it would be at least another 40 minutes I called it 12 and the groomer said that she was ready to go and that they had to take off a lot of hair which was kind of surprising to me that she would make that statement, and I started to become concerned. When I got there, I was handed a bill with an additional charge for $20.00 for an extra 30 minutes of brushing, which I did not authorize, and I was not called about it, it was just put on the bill. I asked to speak with the manager. The Manager really couldn't care less that the groomers added a charge without authorization and didn't care that it took 4 hours for them to get to me. Instead here response was it was in the normal grooming time frame and "what do you want me to do?" I became afraid for my dog; something was very wrong. I had brushed her last week before she went to the vet and she has her normal spring coat, which protects her from the elements, no mats. The huge pile of dog fur she showed me made me even more afraid. I did not have my dog and could not get her without paying. So, I went up to the front to pay so I could get her and the groomer. While I was waiting for my Joanna said she had a lot of mats and undercoat that she had to brush out. I was getting more and more concerned. Once they brought her out, it was easy to see the bald patches. I was shocked and just wanted to get out of there. This groomer is a complete arrogant ignoramus, I use that term not as an insult but as an accurate description. You will see from the pictures that she pulled out her summer coat, leaving bald patches throughout her body. This groomer, Joanna should never touch another dog for the rest of her life and should be terminated immediately. I have attached photos and a video and I'm contacting the corporate office. I'm furious with what this girl did to my sweet dog. She would have literally had to pull out my dogs fur to create this kind of damage. read more

Not the best possible. Sadly someone answered the phone and told me they could take my two pups at the same time and get me out quicker. They only have ONE washer. I have made several attempts to submit a review to corporate but as usual their complain form isn't working online so here is my review ... 5/20/26 store 1380 ... spent $86 on kitty accessories but at checkout, I was greeted by the teller and was going to put in my phone number for points, screen went blank and the teller got "touchy" that I had asked to input my phone number by myself ... I normally can input the number in faster but ok she said thumping buttons on the register ... then she sighed disgust ... I DON'T CARE! maybe I don't want to broadcast my number to the store or with the clerk!?! maybe she should be working somewhere else! there is NO reason I can't input my own information without the clerk getting disgusted! I did nothing wrong ... new untrained employee? if you want people coming back, she needs to be more respectful ... #11937910201 read more

Brought our Goldendoodle in for grooming. We went a little longer than usual and anticipated he would need a little extra time. The groomers he has seen for the past serval years have all recently left and warned us not to return. We were charged over $60 in additional fees and picked up a dog that was completely shaved to the bone including ears and tail. Please do not bring your pets here. read more

10/10. by far the best experience I've had for my dog, Bear. His groomer went above and behind and even caught aspects of his health that the emergency vet didn't catch. She was very kind when recommending options to keep my small senior dog more comfortable (and never condescending, as it can sometimes feel being on the receiving end of feedback for our furbabies). MASSIVELY RECOMMEND this PetSmart! read more

busy but on top of things I cannot say how good my visit was to PetSmart today. A person named Grey helped me out. I didn't know anything. First time being a puppy owner. A sweetheart at the front named Samantha helped me out with a wonderful coupon booklet. I purchased it and it took care of half my entire check LOL then gray took me to the doggie food and explained to me the benefits and the goods and bads of dog food and I feel a lot more knowledgeable. I will definitely be back in the store to use the rest of those coupons. Thank you, gray and Samantha, you guys are the best! read more

I am very sadden and displeased at this Petsmart grooming location in Ramen, Palm Springs! For their Practices and Procedure for grooming. Training and explanation for telling the truth to customers should be practiced better. I was in the area and wanted my beautiful maltipoo puppy to be groomed. The information that was presented me and signed was not as honest, beware this location just want to make as much money as possible with lack of skills in grooming. My puppy looks like a cancer patient after the service was done, my puppy hair had areas that were matted, but not all. They used a shaver to trim her bald and they charged 100.00 dollars plus They kept my puppy for 3 unnecessary hours when my puppy was done less than tops 15-20 minutes. I had conversation with this nice Manager named James, when it was all said and done he refunded my money, but I took that refunded 100 dollars and gave back to that groomer. I am here to dispute the process and skills of grooming that your company trains. It needs honesty and skills... I wished I had my puppy groomed in Scottsdale, Az. Your service, the grooming was very disappointing! I am a loyal customer too, I will never come back to your location again. read more

Finding a new groomer when your regular groomer isn't available can be scary. Especially when you have a 9-year old Golden Retriever. Groomers are incompetent made an appointment over the phone, talked with them & when I showed up they wanted rabies vaccinations. Why didn't they say that when I talked to them over the phone? My purebred dogs have certified rabies tags on their collars, I asked them to call my vet, they said they only got voicemail. What game are they playing, this place is a joke. I'm also canceling my dog food autoship, I refuse to do business with these rude incompetent people. read more

Took my less than 2 yr old dog, who is very behaved when being groomed, for a bath and hair cut and they cut his cuticle too short and could not finish cause he was bleeding. What kind of amateur groomer would do this! I'm so upset because anyone knows how traumatic that can be for a young dog and can cause them anxiety when getting groomed. Completely unacceptable and incompetent, do not use them for grooming, groomers should be better screened. Now my dog is sulking and upset in a corner of the couch. read more

Never go to the grooming salon with your dog. They are very controlling and very military. Had my dogs nails clipped. $22.00 pLus a $6.00 tip. A little while later my dog started lumping. I checked her nails and they neglected to clip one of her nails and it was digging into her paw. I went back to PetsMart grooming to have them clip it. That will be $22,00 to clip the one nail - corporate policy I was told. They have attitude.i will find a new groomer. Very sad. read more

I'm a huge fan of the groomers at PetSmart, the issue is the store employees. I had an early appointment with the groomer before the store opened. The instructions said to push the button and the buzzer would notify someone. I pressed and heard nothing, pressed again and a employee let me in I said good morning and he had a look that could kill and walked off. When I went to pay later he checked me out and I said I appreciated the warm greeting this morning and he says I appreciate you pushing the button for 10 seconds. James all you had to do was when you let me in that you only need to push the button for a second. I did not create the early morning procedure so if it's such an annoyance change it don't be an ass when you are pleasantly greeted. Good job groomers, James not so much. read more

Here's the reason I wont go back to this Petsmart ever again. I was shopping to get a few different new kinds of kibble to add to my dog's food that were of good quality. I received a gift card and thought it would be a great idea to check out the store. As far as quality goes, they have a lot of stock. They have a good selection for a variety of diets for your dog and cat. I was impressed. The store was clean or so I thought. Here's why this review is only getting 1 star. I was walking in the back section by the dry food to find diet specific kibble and I noticed a homeless guy coughing- loudly. Not covering his mouth. He was homeless and that was obvious. I got grossed out because we're all traumatized from a world that was just destroyed by a pandemic. A lot of us still perk up an ear when we hear a cough in public. I call it a soft pitched PTSD feeling and I'm a healthcare professional. As I was checking out, I said to the check out guy with the blue/green hair- "Hey, there's a homeless guy coughing in your back aisle and hes not covering his mouth. It's pretty gross" The register guy says, "Yeah, we don't mind him there, if he stays there the OTHER homeless people don't come in." WHAT???? I normally don't give low reviews unless it's deserved but this takes the cake. I wont be going to this location again and didn't expect that response from an employee there. There's covid going strong and some of us dont need to go through that nightmare again. I will be taking an extra 5 min drive and go to Petco from now on. read more

Today was NOT a good day at the Palm Springs PetSmart grooming. My appointment was at 9am and they open at 10. I rang the bell but it took 5 minutes for someone to answer, no problem. I take my dog to the back and there was 3 little dogs in the reception area so me and my big dog waited outside that area. When I finally get in the woman who was checking us in said "in the future if you're going to be late you need to call and let us know." It was 9:10 at this point. I decided to let this one go. She went and got my groomer who completed the check in. When I picked my dog up his nails had not been trimmed so I asked if he could please do that and he said he tried but offered to try again and told me I have to wait outside. So I did but I could see him. He touched my dog's front paw and then sent out the rude check in lady to tell me that they can grind them but that would cost me extra. He did not even try. I told them no I just want my dog back. At this point my dog is trying to get to me and is being strangled by Joseph the groomer so I said "hey you're crushing his larynx!" And rude girl said you needed to disclose no rope around the neck and you didn't. For goodness sakes! Not going back to this location ever again. read more

My cat got his hair cut and got bathed etc. by Adrienne and I really recommend her!! Everyone there was really sweet and helpful.

My poor pup has been dealing with weak back leg tendons. I'm keeping him quiet at home, got him on a diet, limiting activity, I'm looking for an outfit that will swim him or a pool where I can do that; nevertheless, he needs his nails trimmed, even more due to lack of vigorous activity which used to keep them short. They refused to trim his feet. They refused to hold him while I trimmed his feet. I arrived for our appointment on time. I had canceled the week before and rescheduled for the same time one week later. They, however, with big smiles, told me I had no appointment (I did) before they found another excuse to refuse me service, i.e. my dog was too stressed. Won't go back! read more

Worst customer service ever!!!! I went to buy a goldfish, waited forever for someone to come over, young girl asked how big was the tank, told her and she said she wasn't going to sell me a fish because she thought my tank was too small. I frequent this Petsmart on a regular basis because it's the only one near me. However the customer service as of lately has been very poor. Long lines with staff standing around talking, not helping customers and not opening additional registers. If it wasn't for the location being so close to me I would stop going to this Petsmart all together. read more

Very rude. I received an unsolicited call from PetSmart Grooming suggesting my Buddy, who hadn't been there for 2 months, might need a bath and the woman, "Mary Ellen" (?) offered a discount. Yes, I said and booked the appointment, happy to accept the discount. We arrived and our appt. was not in their schedule, was told they don't offer discounts, but was told to wait outside for the person who was due to start at our appt time. We waited 25 min. then went back in, both attendants there turned their backs to me when I asked where "Mary Ellen"(?) was and I was ignored. Buddy was not offered the service by either of them, even at full price. We went to the register and asked the manager, who said she "just" heard that "Mary Ellen"(?) was not coming in. No apology, no offer to rebook, and of course, no discount. PetSmart Palm Springs just lost a regular customer. read more

I took my Bernedoodle in for a long trim. We keep her brushed and combed well and the groomer said she only felt some minor matting in her armpits.. She called me about an hour and a half later saying she had some web matting on her underside and asked if she could shave her closer there and I agreed. 3 hours later she called to pick her up and when I saw my girl I was in shock. She had been butchered! Shaved over her entire body and unevenly at that! The groomer apologized and said she had to because my girl didn't like all the activity of a busy day and the vacuum so it made her difficult - called her naughty - naughty? How about terrified! I left the store in a shocked daze. My dog was traumatized to the point she developed severe diarrhea and went from being completely housetrained to pooping and peeing all over the house. Long story short, 5 days and $500 in tests and vet bill later, she was diagnosed with stress induced colitis. If she was that "naughty" why didn't you call me to pick her up or talk to me about it before you force shaved her entire body and traumatized a year old puppy?! She used to love to be brushed. Now I'm slowly working to build back trust. Never again and shame on you! read more

I watched this afternoon as the manager loudly and rudely told a Door Dash driver that staff would not help in locating products at the store and he will have to find them himself. Yeah... I was quite taken aback at the attitude of the cashier with the blue, green hair. I'm not sure if it was a race thing, but this cashier was very rude to my SO and I. They greeted every white person in the store/line with an energetic "hi, how are you doing" and a "do you have a phone number with us?" but us. We said hi and were cordial only to receive silence and a simple "put your number in". Honestly if I need any kind of pet advice whatsoever, I go to the Palm Springs Petsmart. James the manager is AMAZING!! He knows animals best and he truly cares he's not trying to make a buck or up sell you at all! Sometimes I go in there and I don't even need any products he just gives me the proper advice because he's super knowledgeable about pretty much any kind of pet you can think of!! He's helped me with all of my pets and saved me so much grief I'm super grateful for James and he always has a really nice staff working for him. I buy my 4-pawed pet's food and treats at this pet shop. I also have bought tropical fish here. The colorful neon tetras are only a buck when they're on sale. I have 20 neons in my tank!! All my aquarium needs are found at this PetSmart. I do miss the independent pet shops. They've mostly disappeared unable to compete with the likes of pet store chains like PetSmart & Petco. This PetSmart is as friendly as an independent store. The employees are mostly all customer service oriented. All of the cashiers that I've interacted with are super friendly. The prices are a bargain too! Search the internet for coupons before you buy items in bulk. This is my favorite neighborhood pet shop. read more

Staff is not very helpful. I went there 5 min before closing to get kitten food for a kitten my friend rescued. I asked if they had kitten food and the clerk said something like "probably" or " I don't know" You would think with only 5 min to closing they would want to help me get out of there so they could go home. The only reason I go there now is to pick up food I've paid for online. I pay online and pick up at the store and it's $0.10 cheaper per can. If it were not for that small convenience, I wouldn't bother. Staff never seems very hospitable or like they care to help you find anything.
