First visit to this store. I don't typically get my dog supplies from the big box stores, but my regular place didn't have what I needed, so gave it a whirl. I was looking for dog ramps to use with the Jeep, capable of handling a 100lb Rottweiler adapting to three legs. Needed to be wide, sturdy, long enough to not be a really steep angle, and light enough that I can set up, dismantle and store in the backseat without too much difficulty. They had one, but not quite the right size. Also needed an inflatable collar (looks like a big doughnut), to keep him from licking at the incision, but didn't want the old Elizabethan (aka lampshade) type that has dogs bashing walls, spilling water bowls, and can't see where they're going and looking ridiculously pathetic the whole time. Considered raised bowls too, but decided we didn't need that as a long term purchase and I could just put the bowl on a box for now if needed (turns out he's doing fine with bowls on the floor). I couldn't find the inflatable collars, but a staff member came to ask if I needed help. He bumped this review up to 4 stars. :) He guided me back to where I had been (how did I miss them?!) and found Argo's size. Phew! He said I could return it if it wasn't the right fit. That was really good to know because it wasn't a bargain at $34.99. Though it is bigger, in that it extends farther out from the head than others I had looked at. In the end I didn't get the ramp. Ordered a different one online on sale and managed to get free shipping, which helped when tacking on expedited shipping. Went to checkout and the young lady asked if I was interested in donating some cat food to a local shelter (NHSPCA- actually where we adopted Argo from almost 6 years ago) as they just took in 200 cats and kittens and needed extra food. Yikes! She had sample cans at slightly reduced prices, from 37 cents to 67 cents each). I bought one of everything and then added a small donation to PetSmart charities on the bill as well. PetSmart offers training classes, though I've never used their services. I've come across people who have. Some were pleased and others not. It's a small space, with several dogs and their people packed in for each session. Too claustrophobic for me, and for some dogs, those close quarters can be really stressful. Hard to teach things like come on recall from a distance. I'm not sure how much experience the trainers have either, to address issues that might come up outside of the prescribed "curriculum". Probably for an introduction to basic manners and obedience it can be helpful, particularly for new dog owners. Some training is far preferable to none at all.

I am very happy this store is here. I am sick and tired of having to drive to Manchester or Plaistow to get my pet food and supplies.

Sending our 6 month Bernadoodle puppy, Dolci, to First Choice Canine was the best decision we ever…read moremade. Dolci has always been a very smart puppy, and we taught her basic commands on our own. But we always struggled with some important things - loose/off leash walking, stay commands, and consistent recall. Despite how much we loved her, Dolci was adding significant stress into our lives. Walking her became a chore, as we struggled to prevent her for lunging at birds and eating anything and everything that was on the sidewalk. We also had a scary incident where she escaped from a fenced-in park off leash and ignored her recall. At some point, we realized that this was an unsustainable situation, and admitted that we didn't have the time or expertise needed to train Dolci on our own. Since taking Dolci to her first consultation at First Choice, we have been blown away by their professionalism, knowledge, and care. Ashy was Dolci's main trainer and was always excellent. She would always provide us detailed explanations of training concepts, kept us up to date about Dolci's progress (with Ashleigh's help!), and we always felt like she loved Dolci as much as we did. Deciding to pull the trigger on sending Dolci away for the off-leash training program was not easy. I worried that the Dolci we got back 4 weeks later would not be the same dog I knew and loved. But ultimately I had in faith the people we met and was heartened by other reviews I had read online. Since getting Dolci back, we have been blown away with what Ashy and First Choice were able to accomplish. Dolci has mastered sit/down/ bed (all with implied stays), recall, and off-leash heel/walking. But the changes went far beyond the commands - Dolci was more confident, and was able to focus in a way she never had before. She responds to our more subtle cues, which has increased our trust in her 10x. Walking her, which used to be stressful, is now a joy. Taking her to off-leash parks is now a normal part of our routine. At the end of the day, our lives have improved dramatically as a result of the training. And Dolci, who I once feared would have her personality "trained out of her", is happier and more herself than ever before. We would highly recommend First Choice to anyone looking for training for their dogs.

Piper is our 3.5 yr old lab mix rescue and she has always been anxious, sensitive, cautious and yet so sweet and happy since we got her. Once we got our new puppy, Whiskey, we saw he was taking on some of her traits. When Whiskey was 5.5 months old we decided we definitely needed help. We met with KB for a consult and knew immediately he was the one for the dogs, especially Piper. We boarded them for training for 5 weeks and what a difference!!!! KB and Ashleigh were fantastic with providing weekly updates, pictures and were always there should we have questions. Once the 5 weeks were over, we spent two sessions one on one with KB so he could train us as well and continue the progress. We also take the dogs to group classes when we can. Piper's confidence has skyrocketed, she can settle down in any situation and responds perfectly. She will always have an introverted personality, but seeing her progress and relax has been amazing. Whiskey is perfect with commands off leash and on, has manners, and is a typical happy goofy retriever puppy. We trust KB and his staff without question and have also boarded the dogs with them when we needed "babysitters". Highly recommend First Choice Canine!

I reached out to Nikki's K9 training in a moment of desperation and could not be more glad that I did! Nikki totally renewed my love for my dog and has set my dog up for success at home and in stressful environments. After the first session with Nikki, I had a whole new dog! My puppy was calmer, able walk politely on a leash, knew how to look for leadership, and follow training directions overall. I worked with 3 other trainers (private and group sessions) and a dog socialization program without any progress before I met Nikki. Nikki's program and approach is the only thing that has made a difference in my dog's behavior. On top of the training, Nikki has a wealth of knowledge in canine health and nutrition. She helped design a feeding plan for my puppy that was customized to his breed and size. Nikki has been able to answer every question I've had related to dog ownership with expertise and compassion. Most of all, I appreciate how Nikki really understands my dogs needs. She does not try to train away what makes my puppy special. Instead, she customizes her approach to align the the dog's overall motivation which makes for a much happier puppy! 1,000,000/10

They also said they did transport to the daycare facility and boarding on occasion. It seemed perfect. I should mention that there are Kara's pet care facilities in Portsmouth, Berwick, and Falmouth. First I was asked to set up a meet and greet with one of their associates at my home so she could meet my pets. It took me many tries to get through many unreturned phone calls, but finally we did set up the meet and greet and that went well. Then I was asked to set up an app and an account before we could actually schedule any dog care. So I set up the app and the account. Then I was asked to drive my dogs to their facility to see if the dogs would "be happy there." So I drove my dogs 25 minutes to the facility. When I got to the facility I was told that they were supposed to stay there for a day assessment and then I should come and pick them up. This was not communicated to me earlier, and I had not budgeted an extra hour of driving back-and-forth. Then they would reschedule the assessment and they would come and pick up my dogs for the day-long assessment. All before any dog care could be scheduled. So, still not on the calendar. So to summarize: you need to go through a long process of scheduling a meet and greet, then you need to have the meet and greet, then you need to sign up for the app, then your dogs have to be assessed to see if they will be happy. I'm just thinking that anyone who's busy enough to need dog care is too busy for this multilayered, multi-step, poorly communicated process where phone calls, texts, and emails are returned only about half the time.

We relied on EP services and would leave detailed notes to remind them of the cats' needs and dietary/medical requirements. Generally, the team at EP did a great job and were a trusted service provider. Recently they changed their billing policies, we had previously used VenMo and they switched to requiring a CC, which is fine, we always paid our invoices and we're in good standing. After a recent trip, we had Qs regarding their new billing policies, these Qs remained unanswered despite numerous attempts to contact them. We received a response from the EP team that they would reply shortly - they never did. We then found late fees auto-charged to our CC due to not paying the invoices within the terms, however, we had held payment due to our queries not being answered over the course of weeks, despite them saying they would respond. The EP mgmt team, when reminded and informed of our Qs, and subsequent dissatisfaction w/ the late fees, was extremely unproffesional and rude to my partner, and said our account was closed and they would not continue service. They also implied we were high maintenance when we had called after hours, while we were out of state, asking if someone could check on one of our cats who had not been seen on one of our 3 cat cameras for 12 hrs. They implied we panicked - which any good animal owner would do - because we reached out. They failed to recall that earlier this summer, one of their associates actually locked one of our special needs cats in the wrong "zone" of our home, a major concern that jeopardized our cat's safety. When that originally happened, they were great about rectifying the situation, but it was very rich of them to accuse/imply us of being panicked, when we had a past experience when their incompetence put our cat's welfare at risk. This company owes us late fees and has sketchy business practices. I compliment them for their care of the cats, generally, but the management of the business, their inconsistent/shady billing practices, and terrible customer support/rudeness to standing customers is unacceptable. Do not use this service.

The Classes are held upstairs in Chester's slightly cramped American Legion Hall (less than 800sq ft) . There are at least 5-6 dogs in each class. The Trainer's style is very authoritative and absolute, she rushes through the commands and demo's and then has you attempt them in your cramped section of the room divided by extended wire dog pens. Our Dog is high energy and barks throughout her instructions, we were asked to give our pup a 'busy item" to keep her occupied. The busy item (Food and Treat Based) distracts the dog from receiving any meaningful training. All the dog wants now is treats without working for them. The entire class revolves around teaching the dog key words and rewarding them with food. The trainer also hates when you correct your dog with a leash pull or snap, She make you feel like you're abusing your pet by doing so.
