It's been almost a year since I've been to this location, I bought a few fish and one died a few days later which was within the 14 days return policy. The staff drilled me with so many questions about me testing my water, how did the fish act, how long did I have the fish after it died. She should be investigator. All I was doing was exchanging the $5 fish. Now, I'm thinking I should've got my money back because if this fish dies, I might get interrogated by staff and management. So I'm ONLY giving this place 2 stars, because I went to another location and they were super nice to me - so Petsmart, in general, redeemed itself a little. I got an advertisement in my e-mail for discounted fish tanks. I figured it was a sign because I had been researching getting a betta fish for a couple of weeks and was hesitant to jump on it. So I figured I'd pop in and check everything out. I walked into the fish section to start browsing at the supplies and start picking stuff up. There were discounts all over so it was getting me even more excited. I grabbed a 1 gallon tank, some gravel, betta food, and some decor for the tank itself. I decided to save the best for last, pickin my betta. It didn't take long for me to choose the tiniest white one. I went up to the counter and made my purchase. I was so eager to set up the tank that I cleaned everything and did so that same night. Since I had done a lot of research, I knew that I wasn't able to transfer my betta just yet so I left her in the container. I woke up the next morning and the freakin fish was DEAD!! Two of us asked cashier if he could ask for help and he said he wasn't allowed. I went and asked them and was given a not friendly look. Finally one opened a register. I took my dog for groom on May 29, she was in perfect health. I picked her up and she was in pain just touching her. She's now on pain medication and muscle relaxers as she suffered some type of trauma to her neck causing spinal problems. Of course the District Manager Kirby is arrogant and claims NOTHING happened to her. The groomer stated she was crying while she was there but NO ONE called! They are all sticking to the same story that nothing happened! It's appalling and disgusting that they are allowed to stay in business. They should pray my 11 pound dog gets better. I have no problem suing them or the groomer for negligence. This is a HORRIBLE place IF YOU LOVE YOUR DOG DO NOT BRING TO THIS PLACE! After calling and speaking to a person a week early to reserve an express grooming appointment, I arrived and was told they made a mistake on the calendar and would not be able to groom my dog. Next appointment available was a week later. Mandy and Brandi (store manager) not only were not helpful, but acted like "Oh well, too bad for you," even after admitting it was their mistake. Had an unpleasant experience with an employee who was straight up lazy!! Forget coming from behind the counter to help you find what you need, I was blatantly told "if you don't see it you don't have it". When in fact I knew they did, it was just in the prescription area which I needed help locating. The employee wouldn't even look up the name in the computer to help me find the aisle. Instead I had to go up and down every aisle in the store to find their small perception section in the back which did have what I needed. I know customer service isn't what it used to be but pure laziness and not doing your job is ridiculous. These are supposed to be people that care about pets and their owners, I could have left without my pets perception food because employees don't want to go beyond ringing people out at the register. I bought some boots for my English bulldog and they didn't fit. The brand I bought was Arcadia trail and the lady at the front desk said, "we don't even carry that brand anymore so it was over 60 days since you got these". I took a walk around the location and that brand is everywhere in there. This was after we tried to find my receipt for the purchase. She calls the store manager over and basically does all the talking for him then says, "welp the big man says no to the refund." He didn't even say anything. Apparently the item is discontinued but it still rang up with a price. I was going to purchase items at the location in addition to the exchange but they lost my business over a 20 dollar exchange. I'm so disappointed in the grooming salon.. we have been coming here for 2 years and unfortunately we will never return. Too much to even write .. unethical practice .. lies and overall bad taste.. if groomers don't want to work, just be honest about it. No wonder our dog has become more and more afraid of going there the minute we approach the building...God only knows!! I have so many wonderful things to say about this location!!! I was down from DC for the holiday and wanted to get my cute little white pomeranian a haircut (given it's about half as expensive as it is up on the east coast!) I asked for my pup to be shaved and to shape up the back of his head. She even cleaned the dark spots around his eyes and cleaned up his nails. Apparently it's common for dogs to get fleas in Florida, which totally freaked me out! She checked him, cleaned him up and even showed me the meds to buy AND DID THE APPLICATION FOR ME!! Generally the employees are very nice and well stocked store. BUT, we signed up for puppy training and it went horribly wrong. Our puppy is peaking for for training, the first class was canceled since the instructor was sick. We received two notifications of the cancellation. So we head in for the second class on a Sunday, we all know the level of effort getting there with the proper items and on time. Well after a long drive in, we were shocked to here the class was cancelled again. No notifications this time. Instead we are offered courses on different days, not on Sundays. I have nothing but good things to say after my last visit. Before I wen to Petsmart I tried a small exotic shop hoping to get some information and help out a small business at the same time. The small shop which I shall not name, didn't seem at all interested in my business, and were more busy chatting with regulars or just generally ignoring me. When I came to Petsmart I was almost immediately helped, given lots of helpful information, and given recommendations for essential products and how to save money. Today I had an appointment to get my pet groomed. I made the appointment last week and I was looking forward to the grooming session because my pet really needs the services. She just healed from a recent surgery and she wore a cone for a long time. Because of that, her hair is matted and dirty. She also wasn't allowed to get groomed until today because of her wounds. I was on my way to the grooming salon for an 8:30 appointment when I received a call that she would need to be rescheduled. From what I was told, none of the workers were present and would not be present for the day. Whomever I spoke with was clearly perturbed, which is understandable, but didn't want to hear how I felt about the missed opportunity to get my dog cleaned. She seemed nonchalant after I told her my feelings about the situation. I briefly and calmly explained my dogs plight and why it was important to have her groomed today. She responded by saying "ok" and that was it. She didn't apologize, offer another service, see if she could make other arrangements, or even cared to rebook me. I have to wait until 11 am for someone to call me. I'm very upset about this situation and I'm thinking about taking my pet to another store. I have been loyal to this particular store for years. Today, it showed that they didn't care about any of that. update: the grooming manager was more supportive and helpful than the store manager. read more

I took George to Petsmart in Brandon, Florida today and after 5 hours and still no call, I walk in to see the groomer assaulting George. Yelling at him, pulling him by the jaw and shoving him around. He was whimpering and crying. I continued to watch in shock for almost 10 minutes until the groomer next to her whispered that I was standing at the front. She quickly changed her tune. They said it would be 20 more minutes but I stayed to watch. During that time I saw another dog fall of the very high table and hang from the leash (around his neck) he was attached to. The whole thing was terrible. When I researched Petsmart I saw that there have been 100s of similar and much worse incidents! Please please please do not take your pet to one of these locations for grooming. read more

I took my dog to get groomed for a road trip. When it was time to pick him up the groomer called and said she found a few dead fleas on him. She then said he was sensitive around his testicles. I spend a lot of time personally grooming my dog . I also take a lot of pictures of him . When I picked him up I got on the road . When I arrived to my destination I went to give him a belly rub and noticed his raw his testicles are . HE DID NOY HAVE ANY IRRITATION PRIOR TO DROPPING HIM OFF. I am so upset. I have never seen his testicles this color in the 3 years I have had him. These are some horrible groomers. They can't cut my dogs hair without nicking him and then they get upset when he trusts to push away from the clippers. Now because my dog barks in the kennel they don't want to groom him. I groom him normally myself and he doesn't move or bark or whine. Great place for pets, take them in as well while you shop they don't care. We took our dogs in for group training when we first got them and we all had a blast, the training is first rate. Also when we were looking for our dogs they gave us a tip where to go get the dogs we were looking for, the ASPCA in Lakeland. But the last straw was when we were told that our dog was tooo nervous and that we should medicate her prior to coming next time. I wish I could give this store a zero star rating. I booked a grooming session for my long haired 100lb+ dog Buster with a total cost of over $100. Since it was Busters first time getting groomed and I didn't know how he'd react, I placed a muzzle on him for safety. Buster has never been aggressive but my motto is better safe than sorry. I was totally wrong when it comes to PetSmart and their internal policies. According to a corporate policy (which is not listed on the website or communicated with multiple appointment confirmations) they cannot groom a dog that comes into the store muzzled because that indicates an aggressive demeanor. The salon refused to service him. TOTAL BS! I was being a RESPONSIBLE dog owner and i got denied service because of a "policy" of which no one outside of the stores is aware. PetSmart needs to clearly communicate this (and any other policy that may lead to denial of service) on the website and on communications. I will not be returning to this store because of this event. read more

Worst pet smart/grooming experience I've ever had. Appt was at 9 but doors shut. Stood outside for 15 mins before I pried open the door and walked in. The groomer for my dog was late and walked in in a very pissy mood. My dog has several gaps in her hair like it was rushed however it took 3.5 hours and cost $71. Not to mention I show up there after 3.5 hours because I haven't received a call or text and normally she is ready in 3 hours tops. I get there and notice my dog is no longer being groomed so I start staring at them and 10 mins later I receive the text she is finished. I hate complaining about the small things but I've been to pet smart grooming many times and it's never been this bad. From now on I'll drive back down to Sarasota to tender paws to get her groomed. The groomers here are the worst. The people who used to work there were so kind. Now they have new "procedures" where they can't take a dog back if it looks nervous. I've been bringing both of my dogs here for over a year. They said my English bulldog looked nervous because he was breathing loud, but he's an English bulldog and that's how he always breathes. I stopped buying most of my weekly rescue animal items here. All I buy now is litter as I like their store brand. I order all my items online now at a competitor. I got tired of buying pet food by the box/case and opening it to find half the cans damaged from the stockers dropping them. Sometimes there would even be a small opening in one of the cans and before I opened the case I could smell the odor of rotting food. Also they often would not have what I buy weekly in stock. In fact, that was the final straw for me as I shopped one particular week and they had so many empty shelves with barely anything I buy stocked. I went home and ordered it all online at a competitor with free shipping and actually saved a few dollars. This particular store is always quite dirty. They finally bought new carts but still have some of the old ones that have broken wheels and animal feces in them. Do not recommend this store. read more

I have taken my dog, Bear (golden retriever mix), there twice now. First time was fine, wasn't too impressed with the hair cut but no one ever really does it that great so I didn't care. He smelled amazing and I could tell they washed him. Although he was very sore the next day. But I will NEVER go back after this last time. He was hurting for two days after and he WASN'T WASHED! I've owned him since he was a baby, for 9 years. I myself have bathed him and taken him to be groomed several times. I can absolutely tell they just used dry shampoo on him, sprayed him with dog perfume and called it a day. I'm so absolutely unsatisfied that I paid over $100! And he was not even washed and in pain. I also paid extra for the FUR minator because he has so much hair and usually when they do this I can pet him for a week or two after with no shedding. This time it was as if nothing was done!!!! Note: He is very mild mannered, doesn't jump or bark and has a calm presence. I know for a fact he didn't act up so why wasn't he washed?! I've never had this problem before at other PetSmart a and they always say he is amazing and does so well. Plus when I wash him at home he stands still for baths and loves getting blow dried. Groomers require each dog to have a rabies vaccination on file yet the groomers here are completely uneducated as to what a "Rabvac 3" is! Yes two of my dogs had their rabies vaccine in June of 2015, yes I know that was 14 months ago. But hello you uneducated fools! Papers clearly state they were given the "Rabvac 3" which is a THREE year rabies vaccine! You know hence the number 3 in the solution name!! But these idiots kept trying to tell me the vaccine was expired because they were reading the manufactor serial numbers and manufactor Exp date of the solution which was 8/16. Hello! If the vaccine was given in June, why would it expire in August?? Anyone ever heard of a 14 month rabies vaccination?? Lol Might wanna educate your staff! We took our 10 month old golden retriever puppy to the groomer inside PetSmart and had a pretty good experience. We went on a Sunday for our 8:00 am appointment, and thank goodness my husband came with me, because he figured out you had to ring this little buzzer on the side of the sliding doors to have someone let us in the store as they don't open until 10 on Sundays. I wish when I called to schedule the appointment that they told me that. We were on time but the lady that was checking us in was a little snippy that "everyone's early today." As she was explaining the process and asking us what size razor to use on Finley we told her we weren't sure as this was his first time. She brought out the blade to show us how short his hair would be. We left him there for 3-4 hours and when we went to pick him up he looked great! The lady from the morning went over what she did and how Finley was and said she could tell it was his first time there and wished she had been told that. My husband and I clearly stated it that morning but she must not have been paying attention. She tried to make us feel really bad about his behavior but said after a few more times he would understand what he needed to do. The pricing for everything was really reasonable and Finley looked great. They did forget to put his collar back on him so I had to run back into the store once we got in the car. I didn't realize it was missing as he was wearing his harness. Overall, it was a pretty good experience and I'll be going back but possibly will ask for another person to do the grooming for Finley next time. read more

If it wasn't for the occasional sale prices I probably would not come here. My main issue is the health of the animals. I dislike chain stores as the animals usually suffer. The fish especially at this location are just so sad. Who is responsible for removing dead fish from the tanks? Everytime I have been here there are dead fish. I have had to return several fish who died shortly after a purchase but I don't seem to have this problem at Petco the main competion. I have over heard numerous conversations from staff about sick animals in the back which are mostly reptiles. What does this say about Banfield vets in the store? I believe all animals should be treated humanely, whether they cost a dollar or 500 dollars. Customer service at this location is hit or miss. Sometimes it's great, other times it's downright insulting. Example...cashier told me that she could not look up my rewards number since I had left it in the car. When I asked if she could use my phone number to find it, she gave a very sarcastic reply about how phone numbers are for calling people. I made a point to ask the Causeway location about looking up the rewards card by phone number and cashier said of course I can. When I commented about my past experience, she said other people have complained about the Brandon Blvd location and most likely that same cashier. This older cashier at Brandon Blvd apparently has a reputation for her "customer service" and yet she still continues to work there. I've had other bad experiences here from other employees but there's also been some very nice folks working. Like I said, hit or miss. I prefer the Causeway location even though it's less convenient for me. read more

As an owner of "exotic" pets (a mini rex bunny & a yellow bellied slider turtle) I frequent this store a lot for things I can't find in your average Walmart pet section. Generally I have not had to go anywhere else. There are two locations in Brandon and this is the smaller one. The employees are helpful but sometimes a little understaffed. My only complaint is sometimes if I'm forced to drive over to the other location due to something I need (usually the filters we use in our turtle tank) not being in stock. Other than those two small issues the prices are reasonable and they also have a perk club you can join for free which will get you a lower price on most everything throughout the store. read more

The grooming salon would not see my dog because he had "more than 10 ticks" despite having seen in the past when he had more. My wife told the manager brandy that he had been to the vet a few days ago and was on a new medication for the ticks and had proof to show this. The manager refused to show a policy. We called customer service and they said they can turn the pets away if they are "concerned for their Heath and well-being" though my dog was just at the vet 3 days earlier. I guess the manager at a pet store is more qualified to make this judgement than a doctor. The website for Petsmart says if your dog has ticks to bring them in for a flea and tick bath (which we were trying to do) and when my wife tried to show the manager she said she could not talk to her because she called "corporate" since she talked to customer service on the phone. She also refused to show her any policy and told her she can ask "corporate" to show her. They were extremely unhelpful, rude and unprofessional. My wife felt discriminated against because of her race. Don't go here. Go to your vet or a groomer instead. Don't waste your time making an appointment here so that they can just turn you away because they don't feel like dealing with your pet or because of your race. read more
