We visit for new fish for our tank, healthy food options for our dog, and for cute sweaters and shirts for our little Shih Tzu. The store's staff are helpful and supportive of all pets owners. Hannah C. did a great job. I recommend her for taking great care of your dog. Our dog is a Great Pyrenees and she did great meeting our requests. The problem is the company will sneak in higher prices than what is listed when the appointment is booked on the app. I have a screenshot of our bath being booked for $92. When it was time to pickup and pay, the charge was suddenly $117. When a screen shot of our initial price was shown, the front desk said "oh we had to charge more for Fridays". Manager came to the front and pointed out that at the top of the paper signed morning of bath, the price was different. So just double check when dropping off your pet, that you I guess read the fine print, cause they will hold you to the price listed on the paper you sign. read more

Customer service is not the top priority. My dogs whine, cry and try to get away when we go for an appointment. I sent this letter to their corporate offIce. We have been loyal customers of PetSmart for over 13 years, utilizing your grooming services, retail store, and veterinary services. Until this experience, we have never had a negative interaction. When I recently called to schedule grooming at the Alabaster location, I was treated in a disrespectful and condescending manner by the store manager. During the call, several negative claims were made about my dogs' behavior. This was both surprising and concerning, as all prior grooming documentation consistently describes my dogs as "great," "sweet," and "loving grooming." Had there ever been legitimate behavioral concerns, we would have addressed them immediately and apologized to any staff involved. The manager listed alleged incidents, including one dog urinating in a kennel--which is not unusual for a 13-year-old dog who may be anxious during treatment--and another dog allegedly biting when her legs were touched. This latter claim is particularly troubling, as this dog has never exhibited aggressive behavior toward anyone. The tone and cadence of the conversation were unprofessional and dismissive. As a result of this interaction, I have requested to be removed as a customer. I will also be sharing my experience through appropriate review channels and with others in my community. I begin review/email/experience from the scariest of places today. Today I thought I wouldn't see my baby Beanie again whole for a slight second. On today 2.7.2022 he was dropped off at PetSmart Grooming for this 10:30am appointment with Kelsey L. I chose a different groomer and cut on purpose trying to keep him safer. Upon dropping him off I met with the two young ladies at the front counter along with Kelsey to tell them that he would NOT be getting his usual (10 blade all over, clean hands, feet and face, nails grinded) since the last THREE visits he has been cut when I picked him up. The groomer Christy T performed these three services. The first one it was long scratch not deep on his tummy near his privates. I saw it once we got home and he rolled over for a belly rub. I am assuming I wasn't told because it wasn't deep at all. The second incident was his ear was cut deep enough that he had to be taken to Banfield to be checked out. PetSmart Grooming and Banfield called to notify me of the incident. It didn't require any sutures but they cleaned it and applied ointment. I was told how to care for it via telephone by the Doctor. The third incident was on his 11.20.21 a visit and I was not notified of it at all. Once home he does his usual happy to be home roll on the carpet and I notice that his eye is complete bright red. I grab him and he has a cut above his right eye and its bleeding into his eye causing bloody tears. I called my sisters that's a RN to see what to do since Banfield was closed. I applied pressure and it stopped bleeding eventually. I called Banfield the next day and was told as long as the bleeding stopped, he should be fine. I also called Grooming, whoever answered said they'd tell Christy and said sorry. We decided together that the 5 blade would leave more hair to avoid him being cut on this body and that she'd still clean his face because he has allergies and his eyes running causing bad eye buggers for him. The eyes she said she would do with shears to avoid him being cut again. 1:18pm, I get a call from Banfield informing that Beanie was involved in an incident. I instantly felt my heart sink as I didn't know what she was about to say. I asked what happened as he is only there to get a haircut. I don't recall her name it was either Ms. Jessica or Ms. Joe. She tells me that his eye has been cut really bad and he is with them and they are taking care of him. He will have to be put under to repair the cut as it must have stitches to close the wound. He has been giving something to numb the area so he is not in any pain. I almost passed out. I imagined because of his size that he lost his eye or half his little face is gone. Beans is an 8-year-old Tiny Toy Poodle and weighs 5.2lbs. He has been going to Banfield since I picked him from his parents weighing just about 9oz. and he has been groomed since whatever time his doctor told me it was okay to start. He only leaves home to vacation and visits to PetSmart. He is pad trained and the king of the house. He is not unfamiliar with the grooming process so I can't blame this on him being unruly or a difficult pup. He is very calm and loves nothing more than naps and cuddles. I am also not by any means accusing Kelsey of hurting him intentionally. It doesn't, however, change that my Beans was injured badly. I thank God that it's not worse. I feel like if a groomer can't perform a task, they should SAY SOMETHING. If they are not well versed on a type of cut or fur baby SAY SOMETHING. Beans or no other fur baby is just an animal to the family they belong too. He is my son in all aspects. This was very scary for me and my daughters were distraught when I walked in with him. He presents like he was in a big fight and lost. His haircut was not complete so he looks quite weird. He looks like a tiny, sick lion. We definitely found a way to smile at his appearance but he looks bad. The doctor advised me to avoid haircuts for a while to give him to sometime to heal and get over this. I am sure he is traumatized. He is most definitely behaving different and right now I want to just blame the meds. All the jumping that he is doing at very familiar noises like my phone getting a text, the television, our voices. I just really hate this happened to him. read more

I really don't shop here often, but have been here a fair number of times over the years. I think it's kind of hard for these guys to survive with all the online and big box stores that have better prices. They do have sales that help and make them competitive. Especially if you are looking for a set up like an aquarium. My main reason for ever coming in here was to bring the pups to get them out and socialize them a little. Staff were always extra friendly when you have a furry friend for them to interact with. I typically would cave when one of the kids ... I mean critters .... was exceptionally vocal over wanting a specific toy to play with. They do have a rewards program, if you shop here much you should check that out as well. read more

The puppy class was really disappointing and was a waste of money. They acted like portray they are giving a coupon however, it is the actual price as the coupon is offered all the time. Unfortunately I had high expectations but two classes were all about selling more product and unfortunately Joe was unable to teach my dog anything. Took the pup in for grooming and for me, PetSmart is hit it miss when it comes to grooming. Got it the pup in right away and was done in about two hours which was awesome . Did an excellent job and I was very pleased with the overall service. Price was very reasonable. read more

Petsmart provides online appointments, but don't be deceived. The "appointment has a 3 hour window. You are required to place your dog in a crate/kennel until the groomers are ready for him or her, and you, the dog's owner, must make a second trip back to the store to retrieve the dog. To avoid the second trip (and my puppy's languishing in a strange crate), I wanted to check in at my appointment time and then wait in the store with my puppy until called. For some reason, this accommodation was not allowed me. You can avoid all this hassle by spending an additional $11 for "express" service, but how fair is that to those whose appointments were made before yours? All in all, it seems that the groomers ' convenience takes precedence over that of Petsmart ' s clients. Also, look out for the puppy cut for $17.99. I assumed the cut would be a modified version of the regular cut, but it only clips face, feet, and tail. None of this is described or explained on the website. Horrendous care of ALL pets tanks were horrible and riddled with filth also MULTIPLE deceased fish and little to no knowledge on African cichlids I have a long history of caring for fish and have multiple pets I hav done lots of research into the proper care of fish and other animals as I plan to get a degree in marine biology in the near future would not recommend please do research before purchasing a pet abs look at shelters and reputable breeders first. read more

Every single time I add fish from this location to my tanks, something horrible happens. We've had fish just die hours after contact with the new fish. We've had ich a day after. We've had fish promised to be all female give birth in our all female tanks. I don't recommend buying from here if you want a healthy fish tank. Just drive to Pet Supermarket in Hoover. Even though this Petsmart management seems to have been juggled around a lot recently, it is still an okay place to shop because of their selection. The best part about this store is that they partner with the Shelby Humane Society and occasionally allow the animals to be shown to passerby. Today was the last time we use this location for grooming, food or anything else. We have been customers for several years and spent a substantial amount of money during that time. Our poodle mix has loved every minute spent here until today! Our grooming appointment was cut short when we were called to be told the team would not finish her groom because she was biting. This dog has NEVER bitten anyone including 2 year olds who routinely play rough with her! In the past, she has been asked on several occasions to come be the "model" student to teach their grooming students because she has been so good! She has never gotten less than an A on her report card! So bottom line, if this dog was biting it is due to either a poorly trained or totally incompetent grooming staff. And the best part is Petsmart is no longer offering customer service surveys! So instead of reaching out to a supervisor directly to solve this issue, I will be posting on every possible social media outlet. read more

I love this place! I am a huge animal lover. I have brought my dog. He loves to come. They always have just what you need. The employees are always able to help you and you can tell that they love their animals and they love their job. Everytime you come in the store they immediately take interest in you and your pet, because they are happy to help. I have never used their groomers but i have heard good things about them. When you are buying a new animal they will show you on the right path to finding a habitat for them. They will give you a pamphlet about your new pet if you have never had this kind of animal and it will tell you all you need to know about your new pet. It is sanitary and the store is healthy and in a good condition. I would highly recommend this store to you and your family along with your pets. read more

Normally, I would rate the grooming department well....until TODAY! The staff that are normally in place when I come are kind and very friendly! Today, upon picking up my Morkie, I was informed that he had scratched a cut into his paw from the kennel. He is familiar with the groomers and being boarded for both short and long terms ...but I figured...accidents can happen anywhere. I noticed that the dog vet in a box was right next door and asked if the vet could take a quick look at his blood stained foot. Immediately the "grooming manager" snapped that he would have to be worked in probably and instructed my groomer that it was unnecessary to walk him over as it was not "their fault". Lol.... Ok, your kid runs in a store and falls--- it's the store's fault but if my pup is wounded while in your care-- you can't extend the courtesy of allowing the folks that rent space in PetSmart to look at my dog's foot- are you kidding me! I found the manager of the store- very nice/ friendly-- and spoke to him and immediately walks the "grooming manager"-- brunette with glasses to explain how--- she was sorry...didn't mean to come off that waaayyyyy.....but the entire time during my "apology"-- she appeared disgusted and uninterested. I was "granted" a courtesy visit with the other company's vet and told that the store would cover the pet visit, they saw no cut but I needed to buy a $25.00 antibiotic spray. Lol... Immediately, I insisted on taking my pet to North Shelby Animal Clinic where my competent Vets are and it was noted that a small cut was evident...my pet was given a steroid shot, tie nails trimmed and antibiotic pills for other issues with his paws. I guess my greatest issue with the entire day was that rude "grooming manager" and the fact that no one cared if the injury had any potential to be serious. Unfortunately, I won't be back and can't recommend anyone else as long as any forms of management is sub par. I paid for my service-- but they won't have to see me again anytime soon! Pet owners... I went to Pet Smart today to get my yorkie a hair cut. I walked in and ask if I could get that done. And they all looked at me like I was crazy. One of them finally spoke up and said we do appointments only. But it does not say that in there web site!!!! It just says you can make an appointment. This is my second time trying to get him cut. They were going to take him the first time without an appointment. But they needed proof of his shot and I didn't have it on me. So the first time I didn't have a appointment and they were going to take him. Then this time they tell me it's by appointment only. So I think they need to get there story straight and put it in there ad online. So they have lost me and my family as a customer!!!! read more

We made an appointment for our dog to be groomed at 9:00am, the first available appointment for the day. The email confirmation we received when we made the appointment stated that the appointment would be from 9:00am - 10:00am. We dropped our dog off at 9:00am (the first people in the door), expecting her to be done within that time frame, and were informed that we would receive a call when she was ready to be picked up. When we had not yet been called at 10:30am, we returned to the store, where we found that her grooming had not even been started. The employee said that they had not gotten to her because they were very "backed up." This was hard for us to understand, since we had made an appointment, and since that appointment was the first of the day. So, our dog had been sitting in the store, unattended, for over an hour, for some inexplicable reason. We took her home and will never be utilizing their services again. read more
