My mother purchased a pond, pump, filter etc in the region of £1000, before extras. She asked over…read morethe phone for a recommended pond fitter, S.A. gave the name and number of a guy called Russell Elements. He provided a reasonable price, my mother accepted. The result was horrible, the surrounding wall was put on a bed of sand and cement, not acceptable for a wall of any kind, some surrounding patio slabs placed on earth on a small bed of mortar!! Rain and pressure would have destroyed this within a year. The level of the pond with the existing patio was inches below the patio, so in his 'years of experience' the installer raised the surrounding slabs with a couple of inches of mortar, while the slabs were short of the edge of the pond, exposing the green fibre glass for all to see. Visibly hideous, the guy was happy with his installation. My mother is easily convinced by poor work, but when it was pointed out to her she was upset that someone she trusted had fooled her. When confronted Russell offered £200 of the approx £1000 back and remove the shoddy work (with my help when I returned to the UK). My mother was back at square one ultimately, and had to pay someone we know to sort out the horror. The worrying thing is Southern Aquatics condone this, and continue displaying his cards even when this poor workmanship was pointed out. The manager (who had been helpful to my mum - she spent a lot at the shop after all), just held his hands up and said, not my problem, take it out with him!! But they STILL let his cards display on their checkouts. All this says to me is that Southern Aquatics think it is OK for people to rip off elderly ladies - because that is exactly what happened. I do not necessarily think Russell realises it, but his work is substandard, and cowboy builders would go to town on something like this. That being said, I had a decent chat with Mark at the shop whose knowledge was very helpful, but sorry, until the cards and referrals for Ellements are removed, I will ensure no one I know uses the store.

Southern aquatics is a God send I have 4 cats as well as fish and have had some rabbits etc…read more Southern Aquatics has provided 80% of the equipment and food I need. The Prices are what stand out the most they are sometimes up to half the price of other pet stores. They also have a wide variety of pets for sale many are very different to your average pet shop such as many reptiles and what can only be described as the sweetest little things I have seen in a while a pair of sugar gliders. As the name suggests there is a lot of aquatic equipment including pond pumps and liners as well as tanks and the fish for all of them. Parking is easy with a large car park shared by the Co-op, Bewise and the pharmacy. If you have pets give this place a try you could well be surprised.

They stock everything that you need to set up any type of fish tank and a good selection of outdoor ponds etc. The fish all seem very healthy and happy and the staff are friendly.
