Did some Internet research, bought an OBD2 unit for $120 and found the problem myself... a loose gas cap. Now I'm questioning the new battery they installed as well as the brake job they did. Anyone working in a service station should know that any vehicle should be moving while turning the wheels. Otherwise, it's hard on the power steering pump, the entire steering system, as well as the transaxles. The attendant who drove my car out of the bay when I went to pick it up is either ignorant of this fact or trying to drum up more unnecessary repairs. Either way, he shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of any customer vehicle. Never again.

This is one of the few in the Nation's capital, located at the corner of Island Park & Wellington, in Westboro. If you don't know what a full-service gas station is, it is the crackpot misfit in the Corporate Gas Station world. This service peculiarity provides a personal touch, that was once a cornerstone of the industry, where staff attended to customers in a uniform complete with a cap and bow tie. Staff filled the tank, checked my windshieldwasher fluid & oil, squeegeed the windows & lights, and offered to test my tire pressure, all while I grooved to the beat of my iPhone playlist. In the maze of retail corporations the litter the Capital City, I appreciate the old school atmosphere and service. Their service earns my loyalty.

Both times, I felt completely unsafe standing outside of the store trying to communicate with him through a plexi-glass window. After begging him to let me inside for my safety, he walked away and began sorting through merchandise, completely ignoring me. Why is the store even open at night, if a woman can't buy milk for her coffee in the morning? Absolutely not okay.

However, according to the server, they only sell gas and cigarettes once they lock their doors. No use to me, since I don't smoke and rarely drive and I was there simply to pick up some milk for my coffee on my way home. I was disappointed of course... and the grinning, almost gleeful "server" behind the window felt more than a tad offensive. Oh well, black coffee it is, then. Next time I need to pick up anything of that nature after hours, I'll be swinging by the Esso on Gladstone and Bank. I've _never_ encountered such a ridiculous policy in the fifteen years since I first encountered these security windows and it crossed my mind as I headed away that the guy was simply being a lazy cuss. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't, but it surely wouldn't have killed him to have grabbed a bag of milk out of the fridge and taken my money this once, letting me know of this strange new policy for future reference. I've worked with the public in similar capacity before and know the value of keeping the customer satisfied. This guy obviously doesn't care about representing his employer and the previous good will his coworkers have fostered with me has taken a pretty nasty knock as a result. Lift your game Petro Canada. It is insulting to think that a supposedly Canadian company can fall short of the standards set by multinationals on its own soil.

My friend and I were walking around and this Circle K was across the street. I was in dire need of quenching my thirst. This beverage was my second of six after my sodium-enriched lunch. We crossed the street and entered this store. I am going through withdrawal symptoms seeing and visiting standalone Circle K stores. Markham doesn't have this setup. It was nice to not see an Esso station joint at the hip with a Circle K when I was in this neighbourhood in early July. This store has coffee machines. Plural. Three machines. It felt so effortless to go into this store to get coffee. I had a coupon for a free AriZona drink. My huge thirst required a huge drink. I saw the most cheerful man with a large, square dolly with huge bags of ice on it. It was an extremely hot summer day in Ottawa. I had many weird thoughts, likely due to the heat: - I want to lay on top of the bags of ice because I needed to cool down - I could do so much damage with that ice by having it in a bunch of drinks to get rid of my thirst - I need to be best friends with this ice man I made a comment that made the cheerful man pulling the ice into the store chuckle. I wish that I knew what I had said. See, heat does negatively affect me! I knew that he was an important person at this store. It's hot. People need ice. I immediately moved so that he could get his ice to where it needed to be in the store. I redeemed my coupon. The man at the counter was nice. Scanning my coupon was seamless. I thanked him and we left the store. I was so happy cracking open my cold can of iced green tea as we continued our walk. It lasted to the point where we ended up at a Portuguese bakery and I had it with my nata. I liked dropping by this store. Let's hope that when I'm back that my memory isn't as warped as it was that day. (297)

It had steady business. I had no problem finding a free pump. I tried paying at the pump, but the authorization was declined. I tried it again and it did the same thing. It was odd. The reason why this review gets a high rating is my seeking help from the man at the convenience store attached to this gas station. I couldn't tell if it was an issue with my credit card or the pump. I asked if he could pre-approve an amount for me. We went through the process of approving $70 worth of gas on my credit card. This transaction was also denied. It proved to me that there was something weird happening with my credit card. I thanked him for his efforts troubleshooting with me. I sat in my car and called my credit card company. It is known to do fraud checks. It decided to initiate a check and put a hold on my card when I tried to pay for gas at the pump. I find my credit card company to be odd. I've been in Ottawa for a week and you now flag a gas pre-authorization on it? I got the hold taken off my credit card. I was then able to pay at the pump. I swiped my Petro-Points card to earn points, my 407 ETR card to get a discount for each litre of gas, and them my credit card to pay. It worked at long last. Woo hoo! I successfully filled my gas tank up. I was happy. It was way too much work after lunch, but I'm glad that I was still alert. It's a decent gas station. I'd return here again to fill up my car's gas tank and hope that my credit card is hold-free due to a perhaps random fraud check. (238)
