Incredible experience at Petit Lafitte! We stayed in an Oceanside bungalow and woke up every morning to birds chirping. It is truly paradise.
Bungalows- VERY clean, room service daily (please leave tip every day as opposed to at the end of the trip, you may have different people cleaning the room daily). We stayed in a bungalow with two full beds and a twin bed located in a loft area. There is lots of space. The room also came with a small table, two chairs, mini fridge (stocked with snacks that get added to your final bill), coffee maker. There is a front patio with chairs. The staff rake the sand in front of the bungalows daily. There are hammocks in front of the bungalows. Our bungalow was an 'Oceanside bungalow' meaning you can catch glimpses of the ocean from the patio and it was a very short walk (less than 100ft) to the ocean. Overall, very happy that we stayed in the bungalow as opposed to the hotel, a little more expensive but very worth it.
Facilites- there is a swimming pool in the middle of the hotel, we barely used it and spent most of the time swimming in the ocean. There is a bar next to the swimming pool and a sit down lunch area next to the bar where you can eat and have beautiful ocean views! The front desk is easily accessible and there are staff there 24/7 to assist you with any needs. The hotel provides beach chairs and lounge chairs that are already lined up as well as hammocks. There is a small gift store on hotel grounds to purchase sunscreen, bug spray, snacks, anything thing else you may have forgotten. Beachside massages are also offered (I cannot remember exactly how much but ~$35-40). The massages are fantastic and the ladies work hard so please leave a generous tip! You can rent jet skis right next to the hotel as well as paddle boards, kayaks, etc.
Food- breakfast and lunch are included with the hotel price. Breakfast includes fruit, cereal, pastries, and a menu where you can order omelets, pancakes, etc. Overall, average breakfast. You can eat lunch at the restaurant/bar at the hotel or adventure out into town. Dinner is sit down, formal, occasionally with live music. The dinner menu is posted in the dining hall every morning. Usually consists of a salad and bread bar, a choice between two entrees, and a dessert. Very delicious dinners! We stayed at the resort for over a week and got sick of eating at the same place so we did check out another restaurant nearby which was delicious (see my review for Cocos Cabanas). Drinks are not included in the hotel price but are very affordable. The drinks at the bar were quite delicious (especially the mojitos!).
Staff- very friendly, seemed to know most of guests by names. They helped us out with scheduling activities in the area and gave us important advice on safety. They also helped arrange a cab for us for our visit into town one afternoon. There is a tips jar in the dining area for the staff. You can also give tips in person close to your checkout to individual staff members as well.
Safety- we felt very safe at Petit Lafitte and would go back there in a heartbeat. While I do think it is important to venture away from resorts and explore Mexico, we easily could have spent our entire trip at the hotel.
Beach- the water right in front of the resort is rocky, walk a few feet to the left and you'll save some scrapes on your feet.
There are other resorts that you see while walking along the beach near Petit Lafitte but this was the only place nearby that I saw that had a unique, small hotel environment. And also, much less cost than the other places. Overall, would highly recommend staying here on your next trip to Playa Del Carmen!! read more
