There is not T.V. lounge or rooms solely for the use of hotel guests. However, this is perhaps compensated by a large and comfortable lounge bar. A large T.V. is at one end but this area is seperated off and thus is unobtrusive to those located in the main area. Rev. James and Hancocks H.B. on draft are the pick of the beers. Choice of lagers, wines etc also available. There is also a garden at the back of the hotel for warm and sunny weather. We booked in at the hotel on a half board basis for a whole week and during that time never had a disappointing meal. Good choice of food ranging from local sausages, salmon, half roast duck, crevettes and various steaks. Portions are generous to the point that you may wish to consider a 2 course meal instead of the normal three courses. The fixed price lunchtime menu is excellent value. If available, try the salmon with saffron sauce and Bacardi and Blueberry cheesecake. The website has sample menus. We found the staff friendly and efficient and would happily recommend this inn/hotel to others seeking a reasonably priced establishment in one of the most attractive parts of Wales.

I was impressed even before we arrived as the website is extremely helpful and friendly, including a very good description of how to get here (satnavs can get it wrong without a little human intervention), pictures of all the rooms, as well as loads of ideas of how to spend your time in the Brecon Beacons. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds with stunning views across the valley. You are well looked after from the start and all staff seem exceptionally nice and helpful - you know straight away that you have arrived in someone's family home rather than a corporate establishment. All rooms are decorated individually, and contemporary Welsh art can be found throughout the building. I particularly liked the little touches of handmade soap and heated towels in the bathroom, as well as the pile of Wellington boots in the cloakroom reminding me of the rain more typically associated with these parts. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and enjoyed gloriously sunny days cycling up and down the surrounding hills, taking in castle ruins, ancient churches and picturesque villages along the way. We were served lovely three course dinners, ending on an exotic selection of home made icecreams; you can tell how much fun someone is having with the ice cream maker - Malibu and Coconut anyone? We arrive just at the end of lunch, but still managed to squeeze in before they closed. There was only one other table and they were nearly finished on a Friday afternoon. We had a quiet meal in their cute and cozy dining room. I had the "Pie of the Day" which was chicken and leeks and my boyfriend had the Cottage pie. We both ate every single thing that was on out plates. The entire meal was delicious, but what I remember most are the carrots. They were the best that I have ever eaten. The glaze was sweet and it felt like eating a decadent dessert. All of the ingredients were super fresh, like they were picked that morning. A real treat. We shared a delicious apple crumble with custard for dessert. In addition to amazing food, the prices were reasonable and the service was friendly. I highly recommend eating here and if I'm ever lucky enough to be in the area again, I will make a point to go back.

While the place is not as gloomy or forbidding as something from that tale, it is certainly evocative and we had an excellent time here. We can recommend staying in one of the 'executive' suites as they are massive and are state of the artfor 1970 something. A real experience!

Oh, and the beer and ale's not bad as well! We visited on a Saturday and had missed the Friday night live music, which we were gutted about because it sounded like a good night had been had by all. The barman was hilarious; he was sneaking a half a lager before his wife came back from walking the dogs. I put it to him that half a lager wouldn't hurt, to which he replied 'it's my fifth half and what the wife'll do to me if she finds out will definitely hurt'. Priceless. They had a guest beer on tap, though I've forgotten it's name. I do remember that it tasted great, though. If we're in Brecon again and fancying a wee tipple, we'll head straight for The Bull's Head and its warm welcome.

On our arrival the owner, Martin, was immediately on hand to help with luggage and welcome us to the lovely Ty Mawr. We were delighted with our huge suite room, named after previous guest Kiera Knightly, the bedroom with lounge area was dual aspect overlooking the free range chickens and lovely grounds and larger than the whole of our own upstairs house! The luxurious and modern bathroom with a spa bath and rainshower made for a very relaxing pre dinner freshen up. The hotel suite rooms also have their own computers with free broadband, maybe not the speediest of computers but useful for looking up local places and event. Tea tray included delicious home made biscuits, only tiny criticism could be lack of variety with only standard but high quality tea and coffee sachets. An extremely comfortable and huge bed which we were sad to leave. The food, as the previous reviewer of Ty Mawr has written, is delicious and of a very high quality both for dinner and a wonderful breakfast...want more home made bread and toast yum.

It really is the place to go in the Summer, people are spilling out of it clutching their drinks and the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. If you do manage to get a table to eat in the restaurant the food will not disspoint you. Most of it seems to be locally sourced and it has a very good and quite informative menu. It is a bit pricey, but its still a good place to go for a special occassion. I have taken my 2 oldest children there (8 & 6 years) and they enjoyed it but I don't think I'd want to take my younger two there as it would be too stressful. I've never stayed in the hotel but have heard that it is very nice, the photos in the brochure certainly seem good and it is in an amazing postion.

We thanked them and they assisted us into another MUCH nicer room and even offered to have the bar send some drinks to our room. Very classy and very well handled. In fact, i'm still scarred from the visit after falling off a dodgy running machine and insisting on holding on. Anyway, the last time i was here was for a wedding reception and boy was it beautiful. For a start to over look the views the manor has to offer in itself are spectacular and then inside was every little girls wedding dream. To say the place looked perfect would be a massive understatement. The rooms here are plush (love that word) but not over the top, the food is lovely and the place uses local produce where ever possible. As i've said, careful with your shoes outside girls because you will sink in the minefield of poxy gravel. Goodbye lovely Dune shoes. As Sarah has said it is worth checking to see if there's a wedding going on before you decide to book here, wedding parties do tend to take over the whole place. With a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and little gym this beautiful hotel really does seem to have it all, and the toilets were lovely too!!

The hotel has an indoor heated swimming pool as well as sauna, jacuzzi, and steam-pool. It has a number of individually sized bedrooms, my mum and sister stayed in the older part of the hotel and had a huge traditional style bedroom, whilst mine was more modern (and unfortunately smaller). Whilst it was a lovely place to attend a wedding, I'm not sure if I would have wished to have spent a night there if I was not part of the wedding party, as the noise from the disco did tend to spread throughout the hotel. It may be worth checking before you book if any weddings are scheduled during your planned visit. The food at both the reception and breakfast the next day was excellent and the hotel is very proud of the fact that 80% of their meat and poultry is reared on a family farm just 7 miles away. Whenever possible organic produce is used in the meals, which are simple and unfussy, but cooked well. The manor is a lovely hotel and well worth a visit!
