I had a really bad experience here and feel it necessary to leave a review as I've been in contact…read morewith the salon since but the customer service I got was very unsatisfactory. I simply asked for my blonde balayage to be brought up higher and instead they gave me a full head of highlights but didn't leave the colour in for long enough and it was very brassy/ginger. I was in a rush when leaving as it was my staff party and said it was fine but when I got home I realised the extent of it. I called back and told them I realised when I got home how orange toned it was and they told me to come back in. I was owed time in work so was able to accommodate this. The girl who did my hair again in fairness to her was very nice and put in a toner and a clarifying shampoo to try to rectify it but unfortunately it didn't kill all of the brassiness. She told me to call back if I still wasn't happy. However, as I said it was still orange toned and just not what I wanted. I called back and spoke to the manager who I won't name here but she was the one who did my hair, which in itself says a lot. I told her the situation and that because I have a full time job and a young baby it would be very difficult for me to come back again so would it be possible to refund me some of the 120€ I paid? Her response was very rude. She said she was actually the one who did my hair and that I said I was happy with it on the day. She argued that it wasn't brassy (although though it was, I have photos and everyone was saying it to me) and she wouldn't give me any of my money back and to just come back one day when it suits them when they're quiet so they can put highlights in it for me. However, I didn't want highlights in the first place and I certainly can't just come back when they're quiet as I can't get time off work very often and finding a babysitter is difficult for me as I'm relatively new to the area. When I explained this she said "just bring the baby." I decided not to bother trying to reason with her any further because the entrance to the salon goes up a flight of stairs making it impossible for a buggy (or wheelchair user) to enter the premises. I also didn't bother explaining that it was unfair of her to expect me to come in when it suited them when they are the ones who ruined my hair and it's impratical to bring a 6 month old baby to a hair salon! I clearly wasn't going to get anywhere with such an unreasonable woman Needless to say, I will never return. I have photos of the damage they did to my hair and had to pay for a colour correcting service elsewhere who confirmed to me that they gave me highlights, not balayage, and that they put another colour between the root and highlight so my natural colour was lost. They were shocked at the state it was in. I will not be recommending this salon to anyone and although this opinion and experience is only my own, I can't speak for others. Maybe they do a great job on other people's hair but my experience and the customer service I received certainly wasn't a pleasant one! I've attached the before and afters!!! The before is what this salon did to my hair. The after is the wonderful salon that did what I asked for originally!

After moving from Galway to Dublin I couldn't find a decent hairdresser in the Big Smoke for about…read morefour years. That was until I came across Brown Sugar. At first, I was a little intimidated as I had only read about it in glossy magazines as the new 'place to be seen' in Dublin. Frequented by the likes of top models Rosanna Davison, Amanda Byram and Sarah McGovern (they looked after her hair and make up for her recent wedding), I was a tad petrified they would take one look at me and point their perfectly manicured finger towards the nearest exit. But after doing a little research into the place, I was quite intrigued. After learning it was run by top hairdresser Mark O'Keefe and his make up artist wife Paula, I decided to give it a go. They've been working in the industry for years and years and have loads of big profile clients. If it's good enough for Rosanna and the girls, it's good enough for me I thought to myself! I started going to the salon in South William St first and although it's a little pricey (app €150 for a half head highlights and €45 for a blow dry), it's not hugely more expensive compared to the likes of Toni&Guy. The difference in Brown Sugar is that the service is amazing - the staff are excellent, you can enjoy a glass of wine/champagne/beer and the massage chairs in the wash area are to die for! They also apply make up (€50) and give make up lessons (price on request) and after numerous appointments, I can vouch that the girls do a fantastic job - you leave a shinier, happier, glossier version of yourself! When my fantastic stylist Orla moved to their newly opened Blackrock salon, I followed suit and the new salon is just as glamorous and relaxing. I really cant recommend it enough. So, if like me, getting your hair or make up done is a real treat, then get yourself into Brown Sugar sharpish. This is definitely a case of 'you get what you pay for.' The service is the best in Dublin.
