Of course, it is a good pool in the middle of Kirkland huge park. It is great for everyone but we like coming here for their last open day because it is for dogs' day! It gets very busy. I don't know if there's a limit but it can get very crowded of people because sometimes the whole family comes along to watch their doggy swim :) It is very fun and inspiring having these kind of activities for dogs. They truly enjoy it with available tennis balls. Ours was in the water the whole time. They can use both pools (there's a small one on the other side of the planters). We also went into the baseball field where all dogs were allowed to run and chase balls. Just be sure that your furry one is friendly around other dogs and people. We all trust each other's. We went there for a swim field trip for my 10 year old child's class. I watched the lifeguards fail several kids from the swim test after they had swum the length of the pool nearly perfectly. They won't allow children to use goggles for the swim test or on the diving board which makes zero sense given that professional divers use goggles in the Olympics! Also, the swim schools around here have the kids use goggles as a mandatory requirement so of course the kids are used to using goggles to swim. I had many kids tell me how gaslit they felt today by being told that they couldn't swim when they quite literally had just swum the length of the pool. It was not a good experience for them and we had several kids upset and in tears over being told that they literally couldn't do what they had *just* done. The lifeguards were apparently upset about a rowdy group prior to us in the last few days and took it out on our kids needlessly. What an absolutely bizarre experience. Such a disappointment for them and us as parents who couldn't do anything to help them. My own kid is almost a graduate of the wave swim school in Juanita which means they can swim very well and even they were failed. The test is obviously way too hard if you're failing kids who have graduated a swim school. Just because you've had the same test forever doesn't mean it's good or valid. read more

It's $5 for each person regardless of age and regardless if you're swimming. The wading pool is nice for toddlers and small children though it is a bit small. I'm also taking down another star because of the worker here who wouldn't let my 3 year old use the bathroom after we left to the car and came back. Please know that the city of Kirkland has reduced the swim time to only 50 minutes per session and also made major cuts in open pool sessions! Along with price gouging, eliminating senior and child pricing. The other city pools offer regulars hours for open swim . They offers 10 day passes and senior and child rates. The beach chairs are all broken ,beware when sitting on them as the cut and clip your skin. And can also fall through the broken chairs. Governor Inslee reinstated all business is allowed to return to open full capacity and these people in the city of Kirkland refuse to comply . They also did not make any adjustments during the extremely critical Heatwave to give the people the opportunity to stay cool during these devastating times. they had limited the number of people that are allowed into the pool along with gouging the wallets of the Kirkland residents . I'm not sure why I'm giving it three stars. Two would be more like it. I mean, I haven't been to a community pool since I was a kid so maybe ALL community pools are like this now but: 1) $5 for hour and a half increments? I remember going to the pool and being able to spend en entire day there. Spending $5 for an hour and a half only for it to kick everyone out and start another hour and a half is so lame. SO, SO LAME. And kind of a rip off. 2) Jamming everyone in to the 5 foot end unless you take a swim test. Also lame. I should be allowed to take my 8 year old into the deeper side if I'm with him. Other things: We had one swim teacher we really liked, maybe that's why the third star. Eric is awesome. Some of the others, not so much. The pool is so darned small. Maybe that's why the crappy 1.5 hour thing, to try to space people out. But the hours SUCK. If they'd just open it up all day, people would have more flexibility and it wouldn't be so jammed up in those little increments. Not the fault of the pool but the parking sucks, too. And people using the pool take up the 5 minute library drop-off spots. So when I just want to drop books off, I have to circle for parking for twenty-minutes. read more

I hate indoor swim pools. I love outdoor swim pools. The only public outdoor pools I am familiar with are Kirkland's Peter Kirk, Mounger Pool on Magnolia (which rocks, combo it with Red Mill Burger and you have a winning afternoon), and Coleman Pool in W. Seattle, where I learned how to swim but haven't been for ages. Peter Kirk is a great pool. On a sunny day it's hard to beat. It's L-shaped with a deep end, a single low diving board, and also a separate 2' deep kiddie pool. I use Peter Kirk for laps in the morning sometimes, and take my kid for lessons, and take my kid for open swim. I'm there quite a bit. I really like it for all 3 purposes. Now... I do have a few gripes: 1. They charge full admission for my wife even if she's just watching and not swimming. This is new and it is absurd. 2. They take away most of the morning lap swim for 6 weeks in the middle of the summer for a kids swim camp. I'm sorry I can't get up at 6am just to swim. Can't the camp start a bit later in the day? 3. The restroom is so-so, dated with that familiar public swim restroom smell. 4. Why do pools not have high dives anymore? What a gyp. Lawyers I bet. Overall though, what a great place with a great vibe. read more

This is my favorite place to bring my kids, family, and friends for a low cost, big fun, clean summer activity. The life guards and staff are on top of all situations, friendly, punctual, organized, and welcoming. I have been going to this pool for over 5 years (5 of those years I was living in Beijing China). 6 times to this pool this Summer and I've formed a solid opinion. My kudos: It's a lovely outdoor pool, free parking, great location, fair price for lessons & free swim. My complaints: 1. We enrolled for Aqua Tots which is supposed to get a toddler comfortable in the water. I can't complain about the lesson itself, it was fine. I can complain that we were not allowed in the toddler pool at all before or after the lesson. It would be wise to allow a toddler into the toddler pool at least 15 mins before their lesson so they can adapt to the water prior to their lesson. Sadly, carrying my toddler into the BIG pool (where the lessons are held) was scary for him and he basically screamed for the first 10 minutes each time and this could have been a much smoother experience for us if he had a few minutes to walk around the wading pool. Sad. 2. Two weekends ago we arrived 30 minutes into a 90 minute open swim session. We paid and went to the toddler pool and had a great experience. Today we arrived 30 minutes into the session, paid and found that the toddler pool was at capacity. We went into the big pool and waited patiently for room in the toddler pool. 40 people are allowed in the toddler pool and I counted less. I then found out that capacity means even the people not swimming, just watching. Then I also found out that they only give out 40 wrist bands and then no one else is allowed to use the toddler pool. This was not the case two weekends ago. This would have been nice to know ahead of time and we would have come at the session start. What really bothered me is how many of the small kids with wrist bands (and parents) ended up in the big pool at some point and there was plenty of room in the toddler pool but we were denied entrance. Again, another opportunity for my toddler to get used to the water before another lesson but it didn't work out. To add to our disappointment, the people that paid entrance at the same time of us DID gain entrance to the toddler pool after complaining to the lifeguard. What a broken system. 3. A few of the lifeguards are consistently rude. I understand that you have a job with some authority and are responsible for the safety of the swimmers but you need to take some basic customer service 101. read more

Being the only pool available in a very wealthy area it's s shame there are 5 chairs and one has to race to get a chaise long to lay down and enjoy the sun with a book while the kids play. I encourage the city to ask the lifeguards and the public for feedback. This pool needs care, it seems no one cares at the moment. read more

Is every place a money making scheme? What happened to an honest business? This place is clearly trying to push folks to take their swimming classes. They denied my 8 year old who has been swimming in lakes, pools and oceans forever from swimming in anything other than the kiddie pool because she wasn't able to demonstrate a proper stroke? Are you kidding me? I'm an advanced certified diver and for diving they don't care what the he'll stroke you use to get from A to B for demonstrating you know how to swim. But a small public pool with life guards and parents watching needs you to demonstrate a proper stroke? Save your money and go somewhere that isn't trying to leach money out of people. read more

This pool is expensive. $4 for a hour and a half. Doesn't offer much for that price and they don't tell u on their website the true cost. No refreshments. No slides. And extremely small shallow area for kids. Really bummed, was excited to go here. Back to Lynwood. read more

This summer my son and I took Aqua Tots swim classes at the Peter Kirk pool. It was the perfect summer activity for us and we re-enrolled in the class three times to take it in June, July, and August. We had a different instructor for each session and they were all thoughtful and enthusiastic teachers who took the time to learn all the childrens' names and who made the classes fun. It made me happy to see my son so excited about swimming every day (Monday through Thursday for each 2-week session). I saw real progression and improvement in his ability to float, paddle in a direction, and pull himself out of the pool. read more
