I arrived in New Brunswick by train, which is to say I trusted the machinery of civilization to…read moredeliver me to lunch. It did. A short walk later, I found myself at Destination Dogs, a place I had seen in photographs that suggested capaciousness. In reality, it is smaller.  This is not a complaint, just an observation.  I remember once hearing something about the contents of small packages. At 12:30 the place was full. Packed with humanity and appetite. I was seated quickly, as if someone had anticipated my hunger in advance. From the bar came the sound of construction crews discussing their midday rituals. Apparently this is where they come on Fridays, to repair themselves while they repair the city. It explained everything. Service was swift and attentive, a minor miracle given the crowd. I began with a Scotch egg, an item that seemed to have wandered in from another story entirely. I ordered it for that reason. I had always imagined my first Scotch egg would be eaten in an English pub under low ceilings and older regrets. Instead, here it was. Perfectly crisp, warm, and generous. The universe does not ask for permission. Then came the main event. The menu is an atlas of hot dogs. Domestic. International. Proteins in tube form arranged like possibilities. There is even an invitation to build your own, which I accepted. I attempted to recreate a favorite from Crif Dogs, a thing called the Spicy Redneck. Bacon wrapped dog. Pickled jalapenos. Coleslaw. Simple in theory. Destination Dogs improved upon it in every way that matters. The bacon crisped with purpose. The jalapenos spoke clearly. The coleslaw behaved. The hot dog itself seemed proud to be there. All of this, plus a 16 ounce beer, cost me about twenty five dollars with tip. A small price for order in a chaotic universe. Five stars. Not because perfection exists, but because this comes close enough to make the argument.

Listen, I have no real complaints. The food was great. The service was great. The atmosphere was…read moregood. But I am a fan of constructive criticism. I had the Gandolfi. It was delish but it could be improved with more or larger pepperonis. Also the sausage to bun ratio was off. Either make the sausage bigger or the bun smaller. Bottom line, you'll enjoy your food and beer.

I visited this establishment a few weeks ago on a Saturday. It is near my friend's business,…read moreliterally 4 min away so we decided to try them. Location is in a strip mall with a few other eateries and stores . It was alot going on. As mentioned it was a Saturday and many patrons were coming in to order takeout or picking up orders. It was their 5th anniversary of the business opening. There was a DJ and a podcaster, videographer and cameraman onsite doing a food review. There was also a toy drive and if you brought a toy you got to spin a wheel to win a prize. The establishment is small so with the DJ and podcaster/ entourage and the toy drive there was not much seating available. The wait was extremely long. I had to ask an employee to check my order status twice each time she never came back with update. We were there for about an hour. I saw an order come up waited about 15 min then asked them to check if that was my order and it was. The food was not hot, they didn't give me the signature sauce that came with my order. The strawberry lemonade was delicious, the wings were decent, the fish sandwich and fish platter both looked amazing but was just OK. Didn't care for the sweet potato fries. I truly think it was because the food wasn't hot and the fries had wilted. The set up inside is a bit off with the ordering kiosk right in front of bar stool seating. The kiosk should probably be in the corner on the right side when you first walk in. Away from where folks sit and eat. It's distracting when you're sitting at a stool and the line is long with folks ordering and waiting for take out orders. I would try them again but on a day when there isn't so much going on to get the real experience of the quality of food. I ordered a fish platter, 10 wings, sweet potato fries , strawberry lemonade and a small fountain drink. My friend ordered the fish sandwich, fried shrimp platter and two can sodas.

As much as I didn't want to go for a three I had too. Counter person is always on point. Every…read moreinteraction I've had whether it's been ordering or DoorDash, very professional and friendly. It was Friday. So I took advantage of the fish platter special. $15 gets you four pieces of fish and fries. I also ordered chicken tenders. 3 was $10 I believe. Doesn't really come in a combo. I added fries it came to $15 and some change. I got an extra sauce for $1. Jerk sauce and a hot honey garlic. I'll start with the good first. Fish was perfect. You ask for it to be fried a little harder.but you can't complain. They perfected that. But they put a sauce on it. Sauce wasn't bad in my opinion but I wasn't asked if I wanted it on there. It has a creamy taste to it like mayo in it so that may throw some people off. But that is all for the good. Chicken tenders. I can't speak on it. I didn't eat any but my lady said it was "real" chicken not the frozen kind. The fries was disrespectful. Cool for the fish platter but I paid an extra $5 for a toddler handful of fries. And they were just so so. Cajun fries only mean it's some old bay seasoning on em. The sauces. I just was expecting something different so I got them, quick tasted and put em in the fridge maybe for something else. But even if I could get over the shortcomings with the food. That Lemonade/ iced tea mixture was horrible. Not just a oh I don't like it but it'll do. No. I almost turned around in my car that I already drove off in because it was so bad. Thats what really cooked me. Better luck next time.
