I went to his office and the first thing I get was an attitude from the girl behind the counter when checking in. The next girl that took my BP was like "don't talk to me, I hate men"! Then when the MA came in the room it got 10X worse with her indoctrination against men. I tried to hand her my medication after she asked me what I was taking and she refused to touch it like I had some disease or something. At nearly every step this place is a miss. Front counter didn't acknowledge I was there just kind of stared until I said hello. That was my first impression, second was the waiting room. It's has a very vet clinic look to it. They took me back right on time only to have me sit for 30 minutes. Never a mention of running behind. PA comes in and it all feels very rushed, because she's running behind., of course. I see my lab results days before what I assume is the receptionist, Danielle, calls to tells me all ok. No mention of multiple low numbers what they mean or what to do about them. I push for her to find out. She calls me back says doctors said all ok, when I ask for further clarification, like a child, she hangs up on me. I immediately call back and conveniently she's helping a customer. If you're looking for cleanliness, common courtesy, punctuality or even accountability, or medical advise from a medical professional this is NOT your place. read more

Wow. Yikes. I am not sure where to start writing this review, as there is so much spectacularly wrong, both from business and medical perspectives at this practice. From the feckless non-greeting at the front door to the Nascar pit crew treatment by the doctor, I will never visit this establishment again. First of all, you should know that the doctor does not EVER respond to portal messages. I'm not even sure why they have a portal when this is the case? When I called and complained to the front office about that, they admitted that Dr. Pete Coury's "style" is purely in-office consultation and that he would address all my concerns at my visit. Fine. I saved up my questions to ask him in person. He breezed in late, and 10 minutes later, we were wrapped, whether I wanted it to be over or not. As I was getting to my questions, he stood up suddenly and ushered me out of the door, wreathed in an angelic smile. But before I left, he managed to squeeze in that my condition will never improve! A terrible thing to tell a patient, and, worst of all, not accurate in the least. There's an embarrassing amount of empirical literature out there, accessible even by grunts like me, that has widely proven that my particular condition can be reversed. After this cattle call of a visit, several other things went wrong, of course. I had put in for imaging, prescriptions, and the rest, and never found out that my prior auths and prescriptions went through. No text, call, email, portal message or anything. Additionally, two authorizations for the same imaging appointment went through to two locations, further confusing matters. Unbeknownst to me, my prescription sat at my local Albertsons for weeks, as well. When I called into Dr. Coury's office to complain about their total lack of follow up, the staff said they would notify the doctor of my concerns, and that he would call me back. I called twice regarding these and other problematic issues, and he never returned my calls. I also mentioned that I had held back from writing poor reviews online, as I wanted to give the practice the benefit of the doubt and have the doctor explain how things work there. You know, for optics' sake, if nothing else. Because I have never received such poor treatment in any medical facility in all my life. In the meantime, I received (incredibly) two notifications to fill out surveys on how my time went at this lovely place. I filled out both. In detail. No response. I made up my mind to fire this doctor because there was no sense of urgency (or anything, really) on his part to rectify this dumpster fire relationship. As an entrepreneur myself, I would loathe for any customer to have a bad taste in their mouth, and would bend over backwards to correct the situation. So to continue receiving radio silence from Coury and Friends, was appalling. A few weeks later, I got a letter in the mail saying that the practice was terminating their care of me due to recent "staff interactions" and that I would be better served elsewhere. I have been nothing but respectful of the staff and the doctor (although reasonably frustrated), and 100% of my interactions have been over the phone. I had to laugh. I would expect nothing less than gaslighting as the cherry on top of this multi-layered sundae of gross incompetence and total disregard. read more

Just very rude and not helpful, truly disappointed as this is not how good customer service is delivered. Spoke to the receptionist. Asked for appointment for asthma, hard time breathing. We spoke a bit. I did state I was in a fender bender. Maybe it was an asthma attack. Told me I was mocking her...Holy cow. Must of had a bad day..First they tell you what your symptoms are then they hang up on you for the chip on the shoulder...I was not mocking at all. First of all everytime i make a apt they also stick me with a PA, i have never seen the doctor. What am i paying for. Secondly the front desk check in girls are always extremely rude. When you piss off one then the whole office has a attitude including the PA that i am forced to see. My wife and I are on the exact same Medicare Plan through Aetna. We both had our wellness visit and similar blood tests in October, 2023. My wife went to Dr. Peter Coury's office and was seen by a P.A. I go to a different doctor's practice who I think does a wonderful job and has an excellent staff (Dr. Gregory Allen). My wife gets a $127 bill in December 2023 from Sonora Labs for her blood test while Medicare pays for my complete blood tests at Sonora Labs. I called Sonora to ask why the difference in billing because we had essentially the same blood tests (my blood tests included extra tests, e.g., PSA and A1c). Sonora representative was very helpful and explained the P.A. at Dr. Coury's office coded the blood test incorrectly. The rep suggested I call Coury's office and have them revise the coding. In my first call to Coury's office in December, 2023, the person assured me that the situation would be resolved. Early in January I received another bill from Sonora Labs. I called Coury's office and was told the issue would be resolved. I call the following day and was told the issue was resolved and the code for the blood test was changed and emailed to Sonora Labs. I followed up with Sonora Labs and they reported that no email was received. Sonora Labs suggested I call the office manage at Coury's office and have her call Sonora Labs directly to update the code for the blood test. Thus began multiple calls in January, February, March, and April. Each time I called I was told that the office manager was not in the office and I left a message telling her to call Sonora Lab with the revised code. I asked that she called me back. I have not received a call back or an explanation of why they have not changed the code for the blood test. We keep getting bills from Sonora Labs and they are threatening to send our bill to a collection agency. This is an extraordinary frustrating experience; I can't believe the unprofessionalism of the office manager or why she could not call me back with and explanation after multiple calls for 4 months. My wife will not be going back to Dr. Coury's practice. I do not recommend this practice because of the way the office manager totally ignores my calls about a mistake made by their office. read more

Earlier this year I took my mentally retarded daughter to these people. They diagnosed a urinary tract infection and gave her antibotics. They did not work so we went back two more times, different drugs prescribed. Still did not work. Last visit, saw a "doctor" who told us to see a gyn. My daughter died five days after her 52nd birthday. She had cancer. Any phyical exam would have shown these people the huge tumor she had by her private area. (Yes, they ran blood tests.) By the time we found out from an actual doctor, she was too weak and the cancer too advanced to do anything. Instead, she suffered for about six months before dying while under strong pain relievers. We had been going to these people for years. I will never forgive myself for trusting them! read more

It's a shame about this practice. There is No personal patient consideration any more. I've been a patient in the practice for many years. I always liked the fact that there was an overall caring atmosphere there. Recently was placed with PA with NO personality nor bedside manner. Terrible attitude and would not work with me about a blood test and prescription I need. She actually said "you're welcome to go elsewhere", and that she would NOT make a personal phone call when she got the results of blood work back. Even though she had many open appointments available daily, she said she was too busy, and if she made one phone call, all patients would ask for that. I cannot stress this enough: Do not become a patient here. Just don't do it. I've tried for an entire year to make this work because it's a pain in the neck changing primary care doctors. But after multiple issues, I've finally had enough. They are so disorganized, they charge for treatment that was never done, they add additional lab tests without consulting you...I have a thyroid condition and I need to be monitored closely and it's like pulling teeth to get an appointment and then when they order incorrect labs and I have to pay for them out of pocket because THEY made a mistake. In the last three weeks I've had an extreme case of the flu, I've called on three separate occasions for an appointment during office hours and they never have any, so instead I've had to go to urgent care. 3x. The lady at the front desk is always very rude and has many time le said "well if you would just call earlier" as if I can plan a sickness like this around their schedule. It doesn't matter if I call at 8am or not. They will also fight you to get copies of your medical records. No patient portal is available so you are entirely reliant on them for your medical history which as it turns out is never updated. You will never see a doctor here. It's all PAs unless you can wait a couple of weeks for an appt. read more

We have been patients of Dr. Coury for about 15 years and have never been treated with anything but courtesy, caring and professionalism from everyone. This is a busy practice so sometimes you do have to wait. The PAs at the Southern Avenue office are great. The desk staff have never been anything but helpful. Alright, I have been visiting Dr. Coury's office for years now. I have to say is that I am a medical snob. I'm originally from Boston which is hospital capital of the world. Only the best of the best work in Boston. With that being said I am always skeptical about any other Dr. who have ever treated me outside of Boston, but I will say this, the Physicians Assistants and Dr. Coury himself, I am actually very impressed with. They are knowledagble and very courteous to me the patient. I have never had a single complaint while attending this practice, and if interactions continue the way that they do, I do not thing I will ever have a complaint. I called this office 2 weeks ago to tell them a family member of mine, who has been a patient for many years was in the hospital and it looked quite dire. The woman who answered the phone did not even say "I'm sorry to hear that." There was no acknowledgement what-so-ever. She just said "I guess you want to cancel his appointment then?" It was horrible to have her be so callous to my father quite possibly passing away at any time. When she did cancel the appointment I noticed she had the date wrong, yet again. This is probably the absolute worst doctor and staff with the exception of their office manager I have ever had to deal with. The most difficult issue is when confronted with an issue the doctor was extremely arrogant and condescending towards us. He didn't care that we had been trying for three days to get an answer on a medication question. Because no one had called us back we went to the office to ask questions. We we're a long time paitents over 10 years before this happened. The doctor wouldn't even stop talking long enough to hear our concerns. All he cared about is leaving and getting us out of his office. He would talk over us when we were just trying to get a medical question answered. His staff confused my paperwork with someone else's. They had a bunch of people on the medical release under my name. When told that was incorrect the staff simply didn't care and said I would have to come in and correct it because it was my fault my husband wasn't on the paperwork. I am new to Mesa, AZ and needed a new family doctor. A neighbor referred me to Dr. Pete Coury. I could not be happier. I had to wait a couple weeks for an appointment to establish, but I got sick in the meantime and they got me right in and treated me. I was feeling better within 2 days. He ordered blood tests which they do in the office (how convenient) and I had the results within 2 days. I needed an X-ray and got same day results. I needed refills on prescriptions I had in Chicago and he ordered refills the same day. His office is modern, clean, plenty of seating in waiting room. First floor location which is convenient just a few feet from parking lot. His staff is efficient and cheerful and he has great PA's. I am thrilled to have a wonderful new doctor and he is young enough to last me a long time! read more

Never saw Dr. Coury, but a physicians assistant. It lasted all of 10 minutes - checking my heart with a stethoscope, checking ears, eyes & throat. Never took off my shirt,which was a first for a supposed physical. As a 55 year old man I was never asked any pertinent questions regarding my health or labs. He billed my Insurance (Blue Cross/Blue Shield), but is still looking for additional monies for this "half-assed" physical. I have decided to report him to the AMA, Mesa Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau and any other state physicians association. read more

It saddens me to write a negative review about a doctor's office, but unfortunately I continue to have negative experiences at this office. The primary physician that I had for many years closed her practice, and the files of her patients were sent to Dr. Coury's office. One of the physicians that I saw in my previous physicians office moved to Dr. Coury's office, also. I was able to see her a couple of times. I have been sick with severe allergies and bronchitis for well over a month and can't seem to see a physician in this or the Mesa office, because they are TOO busy. I am told I can see a PA, which I have in the past. A PA does not even have to have a degree, and I am somewhat put off by a physician that has several PA's, for which doctor time is billed, yet there is never a physician available to see you when you are sick. Perhaps no one has realized that you can't book in advance for an illness that is not chronic. I have seen the PA's, and they are always in a hurry, therefore errors are made. Today I called, because I am getting worse once again, and was told I can come in next week when the doctor has openings, or see a PA. PA= not getting better, not sending in the prescriptions that were supposed to be sent, or wrong prescriptions. The front office women are nice, as are the MA's. I even asked if I could go to the Mesa office. It is even more frustrating, because I came to Dr. Coury's from an office that was always "on top of it'. This office has no idea what they are doing. They were not able to get my primary insurance verified because the insurance office was closed so I paid more than $100 that day to be seen. They told me they would check for eligibility they following day... A few weeks past and I hadn't heard from then so I called on my lunch break, was on a 'brief hold for about 15 minutes and then was told they didn't have my insurance information..... It's all in the tedious new patient paperwork they had me fill out.. I didn't have the info on me so I said I would call back.. Now I call and they say I have to come into the office to give my insurance information. I work in a dental office with insurance and I know how this works. I understand they want a copy of my card. As you can tell I'm a little frustrated. I would have been better off going to an urgent care honestly. I was a new patient and waited about 45 minutes to be seen, and they're office was incredibly hot.. I did see one of the nurse practitioners and she was very nice, but the front office is a nightmare. read more

I've been to this office for almost every type of problem including skin, lungs, kidney, nerves and they have referred me as needed and I've had excellent results with each visit. Very on time, I've rarely had to wait over 5 or 10 minutes. They also accept Medicare assignment! Everything about Coury and this office are amazing. Office staff has always been friendly and polite. When I needed to be seen quickly, was able to see the PA the next morning and my issue was resolved. He is concerned about me but uses common sense as well as medical expertise (He doesn't run every test under the sun if not needed.) I would highly recommend him. i just listened to one the staff in the office spend about 15 minutes with a patient (that seemed to have some memory issues) on how to get to a location that he needed to take the bus too. They spent at least 15 minutes explaining how to go, which bus # to take and then told him to call her if he got lost or had any problems.
