If I could rate Lee Myles transmission repair a zero I would. But that's not an option. I have…read morewaited 9 months to ensure what I post is accurate. In July of 2023 I took my truck with only 44 thousand miles to this shop. The truck was making a sort of thump when it downshifted. (They said "shuttered" on their work order, but that word never came out of my mouth). The man working the desk at Lee Myles called and said they needed to drop the transmission and look at it. They said it would cost $499.00 plus parts if they needed to replace anything. I am not a freaking moron and I felt this was not needed. I went back to their shop and told them I wanted to see the transmission pan they removed. When they brought it out I was told the pan indicated the transmission was bad and chewing up the interior parts. Well as I said I'm not a moron. I know that a little (and I do mean "little" ) amount of machining dust is picked up by the transmission magnet. The man at the desk tried to tell me how bad shape the transmission was. The residue on the magnet was fine, much more fine in texture than gunpowder. This is NORMAL (google it) based on miles. There was no, none, zero, nada, NO METAL SHAVINGS, nothing to indicate the transmission was bad. I knew immediately that they were trying to con me. The gentleman at the counter actually said, and I quote, "you are lucky you are not walking". I told them to replace the transmission fluid and filter and do nothing more. They wanted me to come back the next day and get it, I refused and told them I would wait there and take it home. I was not going to give them the opportunity to actually do something to the transmission, and I am not saying they would, but I wanted to make sure. So they said they did the service, charged me $171. They told me I didn't realize how bad my transmission was and if I did not have the transmission dropped and bad parts replaced, I would be stranded when the transmission went out completely. I had a bad feeling about their service so I took it to the dealer where I bought the truck new. They changed the fluid and filter and said since I had recently been told it was changed, their impression was it was not new fluid and the filter was old. They told me the fluid was not filled to the appropriate level. They performed the service and I left. It's been NINE MONTHS now and I've had zero problems. I did have the rear differential fluid changed and that took care of the problem. As I said, I have waited this long because I did not want to post a negative review then find out I was wrong. And since we do not put a lot of miles in the truck, it was only right to be certain and wait this long. I am not going to tell anyone what to do. However I think you need to know my experience and then take a long hard look at what you feel is the right thing to do. I'm sure many have had their transmission repaired and are happy, but that was not my experience.

I was left to believe that the price would be reasonable. So I paid for them to diagnose it. Well, two weeks later the bill was 5 grand if I had okayed repairs. I told them I would come get the car. It took em a week to get it back together. They told me it was ready so I went and paid the $500 bill for the diagnostics, and for putting it back together. When I got in the car it would no longer go into gear, period. When before, it only occasionally slipped. I went in and the guy behind the counter said something like, "I was just informed that it will not move." They then offered me "deals" and asked what they could do to make me happy. At this point it was too late to rectify the situation. The next day I had it towed to another shop. March 13th I was contacted by this business and asked to take my review down. They wanted to give some form of compensation for the situation. I told them it was too late.

On October 17, 2016 the battery on my 2002 Ford Explorer expired. I was fortunate that Precision Transmission was just across the street and willing to help in attempting to jump start my battery, however to no avail. Rick and Rayn were gracious enough to extend their hours of service while we traveled to/fro purchase a battery. Upon our return to their place of business Rayn was kind enough to install our new battery. I recommend without hesitation Precision Transmission to anyone requiring auto/transmission service. A.C. We took my older family mini van to Athens Transmission because it was leaking Transmission fluid…read more They were able to take a look at it right away. Unfortunately they discovered that the front seal was damaged. He advised me that the rebuild of the transmission would be about $4000 , but based on age and mileage more than 250k he didn't recommend that. I really respected his honesty and advice. He could have tried to convince me to spend the money to fix it,but he didn't. That kind of honesty is rare in the auto repair business in my experience. He did give me some advice on how to keep the van running a bit longer and I appreciated that. I 100% would recommend this shop if you have transmission issues.

We also have dinner plans 6 hours away that next day and if we can't get this fixed quickly the next day we are not going to make it. We had this exact scenario happen along US50. The car suddenly starts slowing down on its own, we limped off the highway onto a (what seemed) remote road and pulled into a parking lot. Instantly I'm checking Yelp for towing services and repair facilities. I found that we were just a short distance from Athens Transmission. They were closed, but I made sure my vehicle was there waiting for them first thing in the morning. Patrick contacted me first thing, just before they opened. He said they should be able to take a look at it today. He asked if I was just passing through, which I was. I had a nice lady that was willing to drive us to and from our BNB and I didn't want to put her out. About 11am that morning Patrick called to let me know it was all finished and ready to pick up. I was stunned! I was already looking for car rentals or a Uhaul to drive home. He explained it was just a radiator hose and they had one in stock and were able to get me on the road right away. We are so grateful! I know they were busy, but they were able to squeeze us in and get us back on the road. What a team! We even made our dinner arrangements :) When I received the follow up a couple days later to check that all was well, I was even more impressed. A great team, friendly people, impressive service, and professional follow up. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Athens Transmission and their amazing service!
